Adobe Lightroom Keyboard Shortcuts I use every day to quickly edit professional photography shoots

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Adobe Lightroom is an intensive image editing software package. I have been using this software since version one and have learnt to use some of the available keyboard shortcuts to help me navigate around the program and speed up my workflow. Here I talk through some of the shortcuts I use on a daily basis and discuss how and why I use them.

    I know this is a year old, but I just came across it. I have to use Lightroom for a week long event in the near future. I too was using LIghtroom from day 1, but I didn't like the monthly subscription plan, so I went with something else. Now I need to catch up on what I missed for so many years. Videos like this are helping me SO MUCH! I love to dodge and burn like you described. Almost every single photograph I edit gets a dodge and burn brush at some point. I normally use Luminar Neo, and it has a simple dedicated Dodge and Burn module, which is my single most favorite part of the program. I only wish Lightroom had such a thing....I really don't like the little masking dialog box that pops up. Thanks for posting!!

    I dont like the masking box that pops up either. Keyboard shortcuts can partly get you round this but it’s still an over complicated pain the backside! The flip side is that it’s very clever once you take the time to learn what it can do.. I’m still a dodge and burn Black and white darkroom guy though..

    You made 3K! Congrats! I only discovered your channel three days ago but have already watched around half of your videos... informative and entertaining without the usual KZread hype. Love it. Also helps that you have very similar gear to me so it's very relevant.

    Hi David! Yes! Made 3k! I know it’s still tiny by KZread standards but it means a lot to me. I have always like the quote from Jordan Peterson “Judge yourself by who you were yesterday rather than who someone else is today”. Thanks so much for your support of my channel and for your kind words. Wishing you every success in 2022. RR

    Glad you find it useful Robert. If you spend lots of time in Lightroom it’s worth writing these down and committing to memory. Over the weeks months and years you will save a good many hours of time. Spend them as you will.. languishing in the sun, drinking red wine or binge watching Netflix.. all that I ask is that you spend them wisely doing stuff that puts a smile on your face.. all the very best. G button is my most used too!! I’ve been using Lightroom since version 1 too and probably like you, my entire raw library even well before Feb 2007 release. Like many others I got Lightroom 1.0 for free because I had Pixmantec Rawshooter software and Adobe bought out the company in 2006. I thought that was cool because I was already using Adobe Photoshop so with Lightroom it would all be better integrated. There’s a bit of history for you. :)

    Great video Roy, very informative and I’ve made a flow sheet of all the buttons you have shown. I much prefer taking photos to doing the editing, so have never really spent much time being more efficient at editing. This video will help a lot to my learning curve. Do you have any more tricks you have learnt over the years to make editing more bearable. How do you manage storing your photographs in order to find them easily again, what storage system have you designed to sort your needs. How do I cull all the photos I should not keep, I need your brutal help 😳. Another suggestion for your community is for us to send you photos for your input and suggestions as where to improve, maybe have a monthly topic we can send you only 1 photo and then you can share or select maybe 10 top photos, maybe I am being overly enthusiastic and doing this would mean loads of extra work for you. I do enjoy the way you go through steps in a logical way and give practical advice we can all use.

    Cheers Conrad! really pleased you got something from it. I have plans for more workflow videos.. we will see! I think everyone suffers with the pain of culling and editing . sometimes I literally cannot bring myself to do it! Love the idea of seeing some photographs from subscribers and viewers. would be very cool and I would be happy to do some gentle, non judgemental creative input! I will have a think and maybe cook something up! All the best to you and thanks again for your support. RR

  • @RoyRiley

    Hi Jeffery! The answer to this is a feature length video all on its own! The search for the perfect camera bag… So I use a bunch of backpacks and bags. I have bags from Tamrac, Lowepro, Thinktank, Domke, Bellingham, peli and cheaper options like Amazon own brand. If you are planning on getting on a plane and have deep pockets then Thinktank is the one to look at. Not sure if you are in the UK but www.snapperstuff.com is owned and run by an old friend and does all the Thinktank and Mindshift gear that lots of pros use. That said if I had to pick one out of all the brands for a specific backpack I would look at Lowepro. Figure out the size and model you want and then look on eBay. Lots of barely used bags available. Hope this helps in some way! RR

    Hi Roy, thx for sharing! Just a quick (off topic) question regarding your monitor. What or how do you calibrate your monitor to try to ensure accurate colors representation etc? But random but thought I'd ask the pro's Cheers Chris.

  • @RoyRiley

    @RoyRiley

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Chris! Monitor calibration is a pretty huge subject and I have had so many trials, wins and fails with it over the years and multiple monitors and computer systems, I almost cannot even begin to figure out an answer. I am no expert in this and you will find others who geek out on the subject where I tend to run and hide from it!! The long story short is most monitors, unless you are quite lucky, need calibration, this can be done with a bunch of different approaches. None are perfect for every situation. accuracy varies and input, workflow and output all play a role, I currently have three monitors. One I cannot calibrate no matter what we do ( its just a bit rubbish for colour) the second has been calibrated with a tool that hangs in front of the monitor (I cannot remember the name because a friend did it for me.. very accurate) and the third has been perfect straight out of the box.(plain lucky!) I would say I will make a video on the subject but honestly I would rather spend the day slamming my head in the fridge door.. Good luck whichever way you go with it and you never know, one day, when I get bored of the fridge door maybe a video about it will pop up from me. Thanks for your comment and question and apologies for not the most perfect answer. All the best mate. RR

    @@RoyRiley haha, that is just the best answer ever! 😁 It's just something which I was considering as I was never sure if the colour from my monitor was accurate, I mean that look okay to me but that my impression of what I seeing 😃 Anyway, do me a favour and move over, so I can join you with the fridge door!! Haha Cheers Roy, have a good one!

    @@mvp_kryptonite hello.. I ended up buying a monitor (Spyder xpro) calibration device. Calibrated both of my monitors, an older Dell from 2014 and a newer Samsung from 2019 monitor. Results are good and look pretty similar over the 2 monitors. Now I have peace of mind that what I see isn't far off. Always better than slamming my head in that fridge with Roy! 😂😁
