    The teapot I want is the one an artist made as a sculpture it was red and the body was wide and so was the spout, it was a very longgg teapot and I would put oolong tea in for sh*ts and giggles because it's a long wide teapot! 🤣 If you can make it I will buy it!

    I got my teapot for pretty cheap at an antique store (US), new-old stock so it had never been used. Always pop into old wares shops and street sales; you never know what they'll have!

    Thank you for tea source recommendations. So Han especially at West China Tea is amazing for making people feel welcome and comfortable around tea. He also seems to focus more on small artisan farmers compared to some others so while his selection is not as crazy big as say Yunnan sourcing, it still has plenty of variety and some versions of tea that are unique to the farmer in China he sourced it from.

    If we're talking new tea drinkers then I think the biggest thing they need is legitimate knowledge. Some people on this platform hype tea up to what it isn't. Tea is tea. Secondly, don't spend your life savings on a teapot. I'm still using an $80 repro clay pot and apart from some leaking it goes fine. Would a hand made clay pot be better? Yes. Is it severely impacting my experience? Nope. I think the biggest thing I found out with my last tea order is that harvest time matters. A spring harvest is considerably better than a winter harvest. Also year matters too. I think I had a 2013 dan cong and it reminded me of buttered popcorn but a 2014 does not taste like that.

    You lost me at the end. What’s wrong with caffeine free teas? Why can you gongfu herbal tea? What’s gongfu?

  • @steepingwithfriends
    @steepingwithfriendsКүн бұрын

    Gongfu is brewing a larger amount of leaves than the water ratio would normally be but for a shorter time (10-30 seconds usually). This created a concentrated steep that maximizes flavor of the leaves. In herbal teas it’s not using tea leaves but herbs so the steeping time is different.

  • @TaoTeaware
    @TaoTeawareКүн бұрын

    Yeah and the main thing with this higher concentration of leaves is repetitive brewing. If you do this with an herbal tea it will either taste bitter from over extracting it or not taste like much at all because the most significant portion of flavor has been extracted. Does that make sense? @sunshineannatx

  • @Sunshineannatx
    @Sunshineannatx19 сағат бұрын

  • @TaoTeaware
    @TaoTeaware3 күн бұрын

    Sunflower seeds and nuts for sure. Dried fruit, small fruit like grapes, baby oranges or chunks of pomelo. I haven’t been too many places with peanuts specifically but it makes sense to me. Not too much flavor to overpower the tea and the nuttiness would go well along side the tea

    @@TaoTeaware So things that aren't too sweet are more the pairings with tea in China? I always find that if I eat something sweet then hit the floral "sweet" red teas it totally kills my ability to taste that natural sweetness and I get nothing but astringent flavor and mouth feel.

    When I went to a tea-ware/tea store in NYC, the owner recommended me a smaller $18 cup/mini-kettle set from Old Amsterdam Porcelain, since she's had a lot of broken gaiwans. Gaiwans are pretty cool, but the issue is that they apparently break all the time. *In Chinatown NYC -- they charge $10/gaiwan at discount ceramic stores, but $14/gaiwan at the specialty tea shops. I'm wondering if investing in a teapot as a beginner might actually save more money in the long run, since they seem to be built sturdier than gaiwans?
