Great talk-- Derek was cooking when talking about the distilation of naturally occurring chemical constituents vs longterm introduction to the body for further reaching, "whole", benefits; this is why the preservation of TEK is so essential, loosing these precious pools of knowledge, rendered by hundreds of generations of interaction, deplets our understanding of the natural world. 🦇

Interesting content. I also enjoy the Teasoup podcast, which led me to sample some white teas from One River Tea. I now love them. When I first got them, I brewed them far too lightly, so they were good but not amazing. Later, I invested in a gaiwan and increased the leaf to water ratio. Transformative! I am glad the smallest pouch size is 25 grams, because it allows for opportunities to try different brewing parameters. Are the teas offered through Tao Teaware going to be different from what is offered through One River Tea?

What do you think of the idea that different clays suit different tea types and should I consider this when buying my first pot?

Generally I think that the quality of the pot and you enjoying the art of it will be more noticeable than dedicating one pot to one tea. Once you have several pots, it’s fun to add that to the experiments and learning but if you’re doing that for your first pot then you won’t use your nice pot unless it’s one type and for me it takes away from the artistry and fun of using a nice teapot in the beginning. 🤓
