Uncover the Hidden Gems: Top 10 Loose Leaf Teas |

Some of these famous Chinese teas you may have heard of some may be a complete mystery with the most expensive tea at over $10,000 per pound! The lists for these teas includes vague terms like pu erh all the way to very specific teas from a famous place in Hangzhou if you know what we mean.
One of our takeaways that makes sense but we didn't really consider was that 4 of these top 10 teas are all one type of tea. Can you guess which it is? White, green, yellow, oolong, red or black tea.

Awesome episode. It really gave me the "tingles" hehehe. I would suggest for future episodes to put title cards on the screen. Like when you a naming off the teas have the name on the screen as well. That way people can see how it's spelled if they wish to look it up and learn more. That or have them listed off in your description box. Your mics are better this time round. I definitely enjoy the Silver Needle (white tea).

You guys crack me up. I love the banter over the green tea convo and Darts enthusiasm. Love it :-). We should be correct in saying you can’t really do wrong with fresh Dragonwell and I do like Qing Ming Bi Lo Chun, but I wait til summer to even-start drinking it and it is wonderful. It is March 2024 so its time to order your greens, but man drink it before the fall, it falls apart can get ashy on you quickly. if you like a scotch aftertaste enjoy your greens the following winter ;-)

I like all the white teas too. I really feel Bai Mu Dan benefits from a blend with Sho Mei.

I agree with dart that everyone should really understand their teapot and tea combination. If you put too much in, adjust your temp and time. oolongs are pretty forgiving so it is easy to adjust. But on the contrary I actually always weigh my tea. Why, right? Well I want to know the optimal amount. If it is not enough, I get to add a 1/2 gram or take a gram off because it is fiery. It makes it easy to make adjustments to brew optimal tea.

You reference Long Qing and other teas being sold for thousands of dollars per pound. I've had some really good and relatively expensive Dragonwell but do you think that the tea which is sold for so much money is noticeably better than say Long Qing which is sold for more reasonably expensive prices? Well, I guess I wonder just broadly speaking if the prices reflect the experience of the tea or is it mostly prestige of growing area? Like I imagine somehow this tea which is prohibitively expensive is somehow mythically good or is it just, really good but not really any better than reasonably priced (but still expensive and good quality) tea?

It really is a prestige thing with this kind of tea. After you get into the territory of good teas, they are already quite expensive. I think the price increases exponentially from there while the quality improves only incrementally. What you end up paying for is the maker and the location, which isn’t always a direct translation to quality.
