Casio Chaos Theory

Casio Chaos Theory

Casio Chaos Theory is a channel centered around music and the devices that create it.
Mostly featured are CASIO Keyboards - Vintage to Modern, plus other synthesizers & electronic instruments
It will also hopefully be expanded to cover other Instruments/ Music Making Equipment, Computers, Tech, Gadgets and Retro Video Games

The main philosophy is - If it makes music, makes noises, moves, uses a joypad, uses batteries or electricity...
...it may well be featured!

    Hey, my M-10 just came. Is audio supposed to only come out of one ear when headphones are plugged in? Any advice? 😊

  • @CasioChaosTheory

    I'm away from home (yet again!) so can't check my M10 right now. However, the M10 is mono only, and from memory the "output" socket is also mono (I don't think I ever used it with headphones, I always connected it to an audio interface using a mono (TS) cable). The M10 most likely uses a TS (Tip Sleeve) socket, and stereo headphones use TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) connections. Hence when using stereo headphones it will only produce sound via one side, as it is only able to make contact with the Tip and Sleeve of your headphone jack. To make it work with your stereo headphones, you'll need to get a mono to stereo adapter plug (TS to TRS). Alternatively, if you have a sound interface, simply connect the M10 to that via a mono cable and use the headphone connector on your sound interface. Hope that helps!

    My advice is that before you demonstrate a keyboard, first learn how to play it. Harpsicord has a certain way of beeing played and so does the organ.

  • @CasioChaosTheory
    @CasioChaosTheory18 күн бұрын

    I'm playing a Casiotone home keyboard that has organ and harpsicord presets (among the 100s of other instruments available), not a real organ or harpsicord. I'm also a self taught synthpop/ electronic/ EDM style keyboard player, and I will use any sound that feels good to me and play it in my own unconventional way. That's how I approach playing keyboards, and I make this very clear in all my videos. I put this video together to show and share some of the wide range of sounds available from the S1000V, not to show how to technically play keyboard in traditional styles. If you want to see harpsicord and organ being played traditionally, best go watch dedicated harpsicord and organ videos. A video by a synthpop keyboard player demonstrating the myriad of tones in a Casiotone home keyboard, is most likely not for you.

    @@CasioChaosTheory I get you, but to "get" that feeling of an instrument, you have to close your eyes and imagine that you're playing that instrument. My last Casio was a WK 220 and it had a cool brass and reed sound. So every time I took a solo, I closed my eyes and it was like I had a Sax or Trumpet in my hand. With my Roland GW 7 and *, I did the same, because the Harpsichord and Pipe Organ have a certain way of playing the keys.

    @21:00 It's normal for the output of PD saw to look like that, with dips in the spectrum. The theoretical form of the spectrum for a PD saw is a sequence of parabolae. See e.g. fig 3 in Lazzarini et al. DAFX 2009, www.dafx.de/paper-archive/2009/papers/paper_12.pdf

    CZ-1 likely has larger AC coupling (DC removal) capacitors on its line out. This would easily account for the flatter parts of the square waves. Smaller caps discharge faster. But this also depends whether you've plugged them into similar enough input interfaces, because the impedance of these matters relative to the caps for low frequency rolloff.

  • @respawnedfluff5942
    @respawnedfluff59422 ай бұрын

    I found a schematic on the web for the 101; it should have 330uF output caps... for the headphones out. These are actually a bit under-spec'd compared to what the producer of the opamp used (LA4138) recommended: 470uF. But they still are pretty beefy. However, the line out doesn't actually go through that, only the headphone jack does. The line out only has a 0.22uF cap. But not much luck finding the schematics for the CZ-1 thus far.

  • @respawnedfluff5942
    @respawnedfluff59422 ай бұрын

    I found somewhat blurry schematics for the CZ-1; makes the fine print on the parts hard to read, but it seems to have 10uF line out caps. So that's quite a bit more than the CZ-101 has on its line out (0.22uF).

  • @respawnedfluff5942
    @respawnedfluff59422 ай бұрын

    Headphones wise, the CZ-1 also has 330uF caps, but the amp for those is a LA4170, which might sound different than the one on the CZ-101. The datasheet for this amp only recommends 100uF on its output. It's lower power part: 1.05W max vs 4.8W on the CZ-101. When people say the CZ-101 has 'hotter' output, they probably mean the headphones one. The opamps for the line out are pretty similar though. The CZ-1 uses LA6462D (dual)opamps; the CZ-101 a 4558DD. These are both 500mW max parts. (The other opamp in the 4558D pair is permanently used as pre-amp for the headphone amp on the 101, while on the CZ-1, the headphone jack plug when plugged seems to trigger a relay that switches the LA6462D to work as a stereo pre-amp for the LA4170. I'm not totally sure what triggers that relay, as the notation for its line trigger is pretty cryptic in the schematic I found.)

    Yes. You can't play legato on a minimoog and you can't play octaves on an ARP2600 like the bass in the outro of Thriller. Even the attack is harder and the filter tracks on the keyboard. So the Thriller bass was a Roland Jupiter 8. You will believe it, if you try it and compare it with the original song.

  • @JayNoodles
    @JayNoodles2 күн бұрын

    The one you hear on KZread is not the bass used on the final version of the song in fact in the “thriller multitracks video” you can hear the engineer say “rod temperton’s starlight” before it begins.

  • @JayNoodles

    @@JayNoodles I‘m not stupid. I am not talking of starlight demo. I am talking of the final session. And I am talking about things not published on youtube. It has a keyboard filter tracking you can even hear on the CD or record you buy at the store!
