Hey love all your videos on this board. Can you tell me if someone the organ sounds (pipe organ in particular) can be modulated to change or enhance it? Might might be the thing that makes me cave if it does!!

Thank you and I'm glad that you are enjoying my videos! Yes, you can change/ modulate the organ sounds, and in fact you can change and modulate all the tones using the assignable knobs. Check out page 91 onwards in the CT-S1000V User Manual (link below), where it shows how to use the K1 - K3 assignable knobs to add expressiveness/ modify the tones you are playing. For many factory tones, the K3 is normally set to modulation and K1 and K2 are set to filter cut off and resonance. Page 94 - 95 shows all the different effects that can be applied to a tone and they can all be assigned to one of the assignable knobs. You also have all the Active DSPs as well that can be applied to the tones, and you can also assign their parameters to the assignable knobs also for real time performance controls. On top of this, you can layer two separate tones together and assign the K1 - K3 knobs to one or both of the tone layers. The Active DSPs can be applied independently to each layer also. And of course you have velocity for added expressiveness (with variable sensitivity or switch off entirely), plus the S1000V can use a sustain and volume pedal. As you can see, it's a very flexible keyboard with a lot of possibilities and powerful sonics. Feel free to check out Part 2 of my S1000V review series (The Tones and what you can do with them) as in that episode I cover a lot of what can be done with the tones and how to do it. @13.10 I cover modulation specifically, and throughout the episode I demonstrate many of the other parameters and effects that can be used to modify the tones. Glad you liked the video! There's a few Tones in the S1000V that can get close to the Van Halen "Jump" sound. The original "Jump" sound was made using the dual oscillator Oberheim OBX synthesizer with sawtooth waveforms selected for each oscillator. With the S1000V, I found that by selecting Tone 413 (Saw Lead 2) and layering it with Tone 415 (Saw Lead 4), in effect making it a "dual oscillator" synth, and then dropping the "Upper" part of the keyboard by -1 Octave, I was able to get into the ballpark of that famous Van Halen "Jump" sound. There's likely a few other Tones that could also work, and a bit of experimenting might get the sound even closer. Hope this helps!

Looking at the Tone list, numbers 36 to 64 all come under the "ELEC. PIANO" category. Tone numbers 43 to 48 are "ELEC. PIANO" 1 to 6, and Tone numbers 54 to 56 are "DIGITAL E. PIANO" 1 to 3. I haven't compared them directly with a DX-7 e-piano patch, but I would have thought that some of those in the Casiotone are going to be close in overall sound. The CTX-5000 is a great keyboard and so is the CT-S1000V. They both have their strengths and useful features.

@@CasioChaosTheory Totally, agree. They both have their similarities, but I think they are aimed at different markets, would you not agree? I have the X3000 which is better suited to sitting in my rack in my studio. I find it bulky but I also don't think it's that robust a chassis that I want to be carrying it around, whereas the 1000v feels much more solidly constructed. I usually lean the 1000V against a wall in the studio, because you never know when you may want to pick it up and carry it arround the house or to a friends to have a play. They've not got the same patches either, so one isn't a newer replacement for the other. If I'm not mistaken the CT-X range have more DSP FX? Good for Mybach too. You'd be penniless quickly if you attempted to buy all the new gear that is released. We've never had so much gear to choose from, or needed more resolve to say thanks but no.

Do they have the same tones? I heard the ctx had some cool brass with falls etc but haven’t seen anyone playing those patches in the cats

The strings are pretty cheesy. Really have to move up a lot in price to get good strings…

Cheese is good! And I expect cheese with a Casiotone! Do bear in mind that I demonstrated just three of the many string patches available, and two of them, Mello Str. 1 and Syn-Strings1 were chosen specifically because they have a lot of additional character and colour in their sound, i.e. Syn-Strings1 (aka synthesizer strings) is meant to replicate those artificial 70's string machine synth style sound and is not meant to sound realistic.

Don't forget custom DSP and layering 😉

My advice is that before you demonstrate a keyboard, first learn how to play it. Harpsicord has a certain way of beeing played and so does the organ.

I'm playing a Casiotone home keyboard that has organ and harpsicord presets (among the 100s of other instruments available), not a real organ or harpsicord. I'm also a self taught synthpop/ electronic/ EDM style keyboard player, and I will use any sound that feels good to me and play it in my own unconventional way. That's how I approach playing keyboards, and I make this very clear in all my videos. I put this video together to show and share some of the wide range of sounds available from the S1000V, not to show how to technically play keyboard in traditional styles. If you want to see harpsicord and organ being played traditionally, best go watch dedicated harpsicord and organ videos. A video by a synthpop keyboard player demonstrating the myriad of tones in a Casiotone home keyboard, is most likely not for you.

@@CasioChaosTheory I get you, but to "get" that feeling of an instrument, you have to close your eyes and imagine that you're playing that instrument. My last Casio was a WK 220 and it had a cool brass and reed sound. So every time I took a solo, I closed my eyes and it was like I had a Sax or Trumpet in my hand. With my Roland GW 7 and *, I did the same, because the Harpsichord and Pipe Organ have a certain way of playing the keys.
