Hi, thanks for posting this tutorial, I know how to record on the Casio CTS 1000 V and I like it, I have one question. Can you please do an easier tutorial on how to use the multi track recording feature? Thanks.

This is the best tutorial anyone can found. Can we loop a multitrack recording to always play?

Thank you! Unfortunately the S1000V's built in recorder has no loop facility. It is rather basic at best.

Thanks for the video. I am having a hard time finding out if you can do loop recording? Or does it it just play the measures and stop. I'm wanting for example to you record a drum and bassline progression, have it repeat, and then you can practice over it?

Thanks for watching the video :-) To answer your question, unfortunately, the MIDI recorder in the S1000V and S500 is very basic. It works only in a linear manner and has no loop function. A work around would be to use an external MIDI player/ DAW as those normally allow loop points to be set for playback. It's not ideal, but it's one way of getting it to do what you require.

Excellent video! Whenever I try to save a multitrack through media, it says [error] No Media. Do you know why this is and how I can save my song?

Thanks for the compliment! When it comes to saving your multitrack song through media, I assume you mean to a USB flash drive? If so, ensure that your flash drive meets the requirements for the S1000V and that it is correctly formatted. Page 248 to 261 in the User Guide shows you all the features and functions when using the USB A port with a flash drive. Your USB flash drive needs to be in the FAT 32 or exFAT format to be recognised. It is recommended to do this via a computer rather than with the Casiotone, and also to use the full format option and not quick format. I seem to recall that there is a maximum flash drive size that the S1000V can work with (I think it is 32GB) but can't see it listed in the manual. FWIW, my FAT 32 formatted Sandisk USB flash drive that I use with my S1000V has a capacity of 32GB and works fine. When you insert your USB flash drive into the Casiotone, it has to "mount" before you can use it. To be on the safe side I only insert and remove my flash drive when the Casiotone is switched off. With the USB flash drive inserted, turn the Casiotone on, and after it boots up the display should say "Mounting". This process can take approx. 10 to 20 seconds, so let it complete the mounting process before doing anything else. The Casiotone will also create a folder called "MUSICDAT" on the flash drive. This is the folder where it will store all the Casiotone files in. With the USB flash drive mounted and a multitrack recording ready to be saved, this is the procedure: Hit the main MENU button, use the "" arrows to scroll to MEDIA, then select SAVE, then SONG, then MULTITRACK. In the MULTITRACK screen select the Multitrack recording number that you want to save, then hit the "SELECT" button, then choose whether you want to save it as MRF (Casio's format) or MID (standard MIDI format). Then you can choose a file name (or leave as default name), hit "CONFIRM", the Casiotone asks "Sure?", if you are hit "Yes", then the Casiotone will display "Wait..." and will save the file to the USB flash drive. When it has finished saving it will show "Complete" on the screen, and you will have saved your multitrack file to your USB flash drive. I just tried the above on my own S1000V and can confirm that it all worked fine. Hope this helps!

I've just ordered one of these. I probably will be using the recording function. Those quirks look quite annoying, but probably work-aroundable. Thanks for the heads up!

There is a whole rhythm sampling section and no way to quantize a drum loop? 😢 I just searched the manual for quantize and there is nothing! There is a great synth here missing one very crucial feature: quantize! So the casio ctx3000 or ctx5000 are better beat makers since they both can quantize drums

Yes, I agree, and I was disappointed to find some essential editing tools missing from the CT-S1000V and CT-S500. Granted that they're not advertised as "workstation" keyboards, but still, the recording section (and sampling section) lack a number of features that are expected as standard in this day an age. They're still great keyboards, but I wouldn't advise using the recording section other than as a basic sketch pad for ideas.

The reason the midi plays back different is because midi doesn’t record the audio only the notes, so it doesn’t recognize the exact sounds, no audio only data.

Thanks for the comment, though MIDI also records SYSEX, CC, and Program Change, and the S1000V does this with its built in MIDI recorder and it also sends this information over MIDI to a DAW. The issue I was having in this video when recording MIDI was with the specific DAW I was using at the time, Mixcraft Pro Studio, because when I used Reaper instead it worked as it should with the exception of playing back the original drum sounds. If you have any influence on Casio forums, make the pressure... recording is literally spitting in the face of all owners! Preposterous! PS You were a lot more fun while you were natural... Don't do it like this, it's sterile and scarry.
