Heroes and Legends Documentary Channel

Heroes and Legends Documentary Channel

Heroes and Legends is a channel dedicated to exploring the lives and stories of great individuals that have made an impact on history, culture or our way of life. Some of these may be little known to the wider world, even though they impacted significantly on the destinies of their own people. Others may have been condemned unfairly by history and deserve to have their contributions reviewed. We hope that by bringing their stories to light, we can all learn from their experiences and enrich the tapestry of knowledge that exists outside the narrative of our own time and culture.

You made an error in your Portuguese dates, Vasco da Gama made his first Indian voyage in 1497 and landed in India in 1498, so it's 10-11 years after Diaz's journey around the Cape of Good Hope (depending if you count from the beginning of Diaz journey in 1487 or from when he rounded the Cape in 1488), NOT "the very next year" like you state. Also, England did not break with Rome until 1534 (by Henry VIII), so the Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 had nothing to do with Protestantism (which itself of course didn't take off geopolitically at all until after Luther and his 95 Theses in 1517), and once England became solidly Protestant in the 1540's the Treaty was no longer directly relevant (though of course its original effects continued to be present in the political structure at the time). Relatively-minor errors though, great job overall, love your vides, they're a pleasure and provide great escapist fun for anybody who loves history.

When Thatcher became PM, the U.K. was the 16th - 19th biggest economy depending on how you calculate it. When she left office, it was 4th. No other declining country has ever reversed its economy by this much this rapidly. She won 3 huge election victories and was the longest serving Prime Minister in modern history and since full democracy was introduced. She was brought down by her own colleagues over Europe (she’d be proven right by history, they wrong) not by the opposition or by a popular vote. Her last victory was so huge that her party remained in power on her coat tails for a further 7 years. Thatcher was always supported by the silent plurality of voters, but not by the media and especially by the all powerful state instruction the BBC, which still denigrates her, and basically, all Tories. The BBC and the arts institutions still give the impression that the miners’ strike was a populist uprising against an oppressive government. But the government always had the majority support of the public who were fed up with being held to ransom over decades. The strike was called 3 times and 3 times voted down by the miners. Their leader started the strike anyway, illegally, and 1/3 of miners never went on strike. Thatcher was blamed for closing mines but she closed fewer mines than either of her Labour predecessors. Today, the Labour Party is in favour of Net Zero and coal production in Britain is ended. Labour now intend to shut down the oil industry. Steel production will end in the U.K. next year. Thatcher would never have dine this because a country with huge resources no production of fossil fuels or steel has no energy security and is a hostage to international events.

Loved every bit of this. You include a great mix of historical context that made the main narrative more rich. From details about world politics and important side characters to notes about the ships and pirate life, I could picture the time and place and motivations throughout. Bravo! I also didn’t know much about Henry Every other than his name being attached to the “Golden Age” of piracy. Now I see why the TV series Black Sails made him a main character. I haven’t seen the whole series yet, so I hope they depict this exploit in later seasons!

I know it's impossible to cover everything and before I say anything I gotta hand it to ya; this was an amazing take on Irish history. Massive respect! But in my opinion there was one important factor you forgot to mention and that was the Home Rule Bill, where three times in a row, Ireland had voted for Home Rule , but was vetoed by House of Lords three times in a row. The next time it was put forward they wouldn't be able to veto it. Britian promised to grant home rule AFTER WW1 was over but many didnt believe this. This was all in the years coming up to the Easter Rising in 1916 and was a massive contributing factor that is very often, overlooked. Loyalists also threatened to ethnically cleanse certain regions of the Catholic/Nationalist population should Home Rule be passed. I can only barely scratch the surface of all this in KZread comment , so I highly recommend to anyone reading this who may be interested in Irish history to have a look into the Home Rule Bill and all the drama and madness that surrounded it.

Thanks for sharing! It was a tough job to try and roll everything into one video- especially since my interest in the project began with a trip to Fremantle gaol and the incredible story of the Catalpa rescue! As usual it snowballed from there- next minute I'm researching Roman Britain, viking incursions, st Patrick and all things Fenian! No doubt there is so much more I should have done, but I'm glad you found my tribute of some small merit. It was a tough project to handle with sensitivity. Thanks so much for watching!

I didn't say it - Battuta said it in his own book, which you can download on our website and see for yourself. Battuta was a fully qualified Qadi, so perhaps he interpreted the law differently to you? Or maybe in his time there were different interpretations? We know he was Sunni and not Shia, but maybe rules were different in the Maghreb in the 1300's?

Thomas Pain, like the vast majority of the Founders, were Freemasonic Luciferians who’s goal was to bring to fruition Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis. The American Experiment was to see if the average man would actual take control of his own life or if he would simply exchange the Old World Order for the New World Order. All you have to do is look around, including in these comments, to see what the outcome was: The New Age of voluntary servitude to the satanic law of man.

For example to the point I'm at now, you only spend a few seconds on the first voyages by the different European powers of the time, in the Age of Discovery. This is all very well made, highly polished graphically, brilliantly narrated, with good maps and artwork relevant for the story being told. I hope you soon get some income from this, as you clearly got skills worth a livable salary." I'll be following the channel, yes. Thanks for your reply. Hope you'll have a great day. This is great, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare this story to that of modern Ukraine. Before the Russian invasion, the Donbas region mostly populated by Russian-Ukrainians, had been under attack by the Ukrainian government for years. This was after the US helped to overthrow the democratically elected Ukrainian president who was friendly with Russia. Also, a HUGE motivating factor for the invasion was Ukraine’s insistence on joining NATO despite multiple promises to never do so. Let’s not forget that there was a peace treaty from the get-go that the US and Britain pushed Ukraine to reject. So Ukrainian soldiers aren’t really fighting for their own independence, they are fighting for the ambitions of western countries who want to weaken Russia.

Something we should emphasize more is the separation between the armed forces of the colonizers and the settlers. Imperialism requires subjugation, and they were the ones who pushed for massacres and resource exploitation to feed the industrial demands abroad, but most of the migrants were only looking for a brighter future.

  • @heroesandlegends

The record in Early Sydney tends to actually show the opposite. Policy was to not disturb the native population as much as possible and to include them in the settlement, but it was often the greed of free settlers for more land that caused caused friction. They often expelled indigenous people from parcelled land and then took the law into their own hands
