Excerpts: Saint Michael the Archangel Patron of Soldiers

The Archangel Michael was the first of three individuals of whom Joan of Arc began having visions as a young teenager. As God's chief soldier, he is considered to be the patron saint of the military all around the world and the protector of Holy places.
He is also often portrayed holding the Scales of Justice, and is believed to escort the souls of the deceased to their judgement.

Um... most Christian Churches were built over Pagan sights because they were trying to stamp it out, while at the same time there was qn undercurrent of some Christians understanding that those places were holy places... St Michael is just a modern name, he far predates what we think. And, not sure how much this is embedded into current Theology or Theological thought... to fight or to protect St Michaiel must first Judge.
