    One thing to know, this bubble wrap can easily leave micro scratches on the surface of metal or acrylic when transporting, also on the edges of the frames. Even if strapped down good, the slight jostling if it's in a trailer will damage pieces. I think a better way to transport would be to find micro fiber sheaths to place the artwork in, then wrapping the artwork in this reflectix. Anyway, just a little update here as the first time I used this method (recommended by my framer in Salt Lake) it damaged a few massive pieces 80" x 60". Definitely bummed, back to the drawing board.

    After a while the glue from the tape will either a) dry out, and weaken, or b) go gooey and mark your artwork, so as a bag gets older, keep checking it.

    Subbed to your channel a few weeks ago and it's been a big help for me as I'm about to enter the fray of selling photographs at shows... specifically truck shows/trucking industry events. I'm a 20+ year veteran of driving trucks for a living but now I just shoot them with vintage large format cameras. Although I won't be necessarily going to general art fairs/shows as you do (my stuff is super niche), your content has helped me craft my plan on how to be a vendor at my industry's events. Thanks for the videos!!

    I once had the back door hinge break so I couldn't open it. Luckily, I was at home loading before a show and ended up cancelling. No way to load from the side. I am wondering, when you were still working full time and flying to shows, how and when did you get your van, gear, and art to the next show? Did you hire someone to drive it to the next location? Love your videos!

  • @EvanReinheimer

    Ooh, great question! I maybe should have explained this better in the video. At the time, I was using a cargo trailer pulled by a pickup truck for my show vehicle. I had another car that I kept in NY at home. I would plan my show schedule so that after the show one week, I could easily get to an airport that was convenient for me to fly to the next week and park my show truck and trailer there. There were a few occasions when I had to make larger logistical changes and would take off a day to drive to the next convenient airport or even leave a weekend in between shows where I would fly somewhere just to move my vehicle for the weekend. Thankfully flights to and from New York are usually very inexpensive and easy to find from most major cities. Thanks for watching!

    @@EvanReinheimer Okay. Makes sense. Lots of juggling and acrobatics! LOL. Did you have new inventory shipped to the show location? Sounds all too complicated for me! But I never had the "golden handcuffs" job to juggle. 🙂 I'm not as smart as you. I do my aerials with no safety net. LOL.

  • @EvanReinheimer
    @EvanReinheimer4 күн бұрын

    @@CharleneMarsh-zj1bl I would always try to bring enough inventory to last a few shows. If I needed to restock large pieces, I would ship them to a location near the next show. The logistical planning for all of this was extremely time consuming🤣

    Great video, sorry about your band! I am so ready to leave my corporate job, but it’s hard to walk away from good money with great benefits

  • @EvanReinheimer
    @EvanReinheimer5 күн бұрын

    It’s very scary to walk away from that stability. Like with most things, you’ll never be 100% ready to make the change but you’ll grow more and more comfortable with it. I don’t advocate for artists to leave stable jobs to “try” art festivals but it seems like you’ve been growing your art business steadily over time similar to the way I did. You’ll know when and if it’s time to make the leap if you want it. There’s also nothing wrong with continuing to do a corporate job and an art business at the same time to keep the stability.

    Ugh, sorry about your van. Hopefully you were able to get it fixed in time for West Hampton. I would be screwed if that happened to mine, my side door only accesses seating for my daughter. I have to access the back for the rest of the display.

  • @EvanReinheimer

    Thanks dude. It gets worse though…I go in to detail in the next video which should be up next week. Too long to even explain here. I’ve thought about adding a seat for Milo at the sliding door and pushing the partition back. But that side door access is pretty critical to the way I have things organized at the moment.

    Do you have your tent setup with you when flying? Checking in your art and tent and panels?

  • @EvanReinheimer
    @EvanReinheimer5 күн бұрын

    No, I don’t fly with the setup. I will sometimes leave my van at the airport when I do a show out of state and have another in that same area coming up. I’ll fly home in between and just leave all of my show stuff in the van. Then when the next show comes up, I’ll fly back, pick up the van and head to the next show. If I need to restock, I’ll bring small prints on the plane with me or ship large work to a location near the next show.

    @@EvanReinheimer most of my artworks are with me where I live and at the moment I rent cargo vans to go to art festivals that is within close proximity where I live, I guess my question if I decide to apply to a show that is out of town or to a different province, how do I get my set up form point A to B and vice versa...

  • @EvanReinheimer
    @EvanReinheimer5 күн бұрын

    @@cedricusmanartI own a cargo van that I use to transport my work to and from shows. Before that, I had a cargo trailer that I pulled behind my vehicle, before that I rented a cargo trailer and before that I loaded everything into a car believe it or not. Start small and local, like you’re doing. As you grow, your vehicle needs will change and you can invest some of the money you’ve made into a cargo trailer or dedicated art vehicle or even drive the vehicle you have now to shows that are further away. It sounds like you’re on the right track.

    How are you seeing the economic and inflationary impacts this year affecting your shows? Have there been any changes to numbers of attendees, or any noticable chnages to your sales/revenue?

  • @EvanReinheimer
    @EvanReinheimer5 күн бұрын

    Great question and I unfortunately don’t have a great answer. I’ve seen lower priced sales drop a bit over the last few years, but high end sales are still very strong. Overall, this year is pretty on par with last year (in a good way). So many things can impact art shows that it is hard to point to one cause. I’d bet that a big part of low priced sales declining does have a lot to do with inflation and middle income households just not having the extra money they may have had in the past. But with my own experiences being such a limited sample size, it’s hard to say anything for certain.

    My gosh, I have almost the same excuses when I have bad sales days at my markets! One of my worst days was when my stall was positioned right at the far end of the market on the east side. Not just bad sales but hardly anyone even visited my stall in that location. Even people entering the market from that side just walked right past my stall like it was invisible. I have intentionally avoided that position ever since for fear of the same thing happening again (bad sales and largely being ignored by people.) I can't really say for sure if it was this particular location that caused me so much bad luck but to be on the safe side, I'll do whatever I can to avoid being stuck out in that spot again. Though yes - I must think positively and think about all the good sales days Ive had at the markets.
