Flying a Historic Vintage Delta Kite

I found a historic Valkyrie delta kite made by Al Hartig AKA The Nantucket Kiteman! I did not know anything about the kite when I found it but it turns out this kite is a real piece of kiting history.
My name is Evan Reinheimer, I am a full time artist. I travel the world using a traditional kite to lift my camera into the sky to create unique aerial photographs. This technique is called "Kite Aerial Photography." I exhibit & sell my artwork at art festivals across the USA.

Evan you need to sell a photograph of that kite. You had some stunning and striking shots of it against that gorgeous blue sky and water ! Love the vintage look too. Can’t wait to see baby Milo flying it.

We used to just call it a bird kite, had a plastic one 50 years ago, around 1972 or so. They flew great. Thanks.

Nantucket Kiteman also made some kites that look like birds. Thanks for watching!

I bought one on Nantucket in the early eighties. Been a while since I've flown it. Cant remember for certain about the crossmember placement. It is related to wind strength. Same goes for attaching your line in either one of the two holes for your line,

I couldn't quite make it out, but for the eyelets for the cross spars, are you saying there's two different positions to attach the dowel rod to? Maybe it's for wind speed variations, similar to a bridle adjustment?

I thought it was for wind speed variations at first. There are two eyelets on the keel for attaching the kite line in different wind speeds. But I’m not sure the cross spar eyelets are for that. I saw some drawings that diagrammed two cross spars on the kite at one time. I wonder if it originally was meant to have two?

@@EvanReinheimer Oh wow, that's cool! Maybe two cross spars for durability during high winds? Either way, what a cool kite!

@@andrewsquitiro9028so, I got the answer on the double eyelets. It is there in case the kite starts to list to one side after some time/stretching of the fabric. Then you can adjust the cross spar to compensate.
