Zouhair Talbi - Boston Marathon Workout During Ramadan

Спорт

Zouhair Talbi is Morocco's top ranked Marathoner having run 2:06 at the Houston Marathon in January. He backed that up with a 2nd place finish at the NYC Marathon in 60:41 and is now preparing for the Boston Marathon where he hopes to once again place top 5. We joined him for a workout in Colorado Springs where Zouhair Talbi is currently based - 17 days before the Boston Marathon. Zouhair practices Ramadan and therefore only eats/drinks between around 8pm and 7am meaning he trains shortly after his first meal at around 9-11pm.
The workout: 16 x 600m @ 10k effort (200m jog recovery)

Thanks for the video! As a Moroccan, I found it endearing how you had to explain the concept of ramadan etc. We take it for granted because that is the norm where I grew-up, so hearing how that would be described to someone who wasn't exposed to it is eye opening.

One for the comment section: Some of the best runners in history have been muslim like Hassan and El Guerrouj, with ramadan being so close to the outdoor/marathon season, do you think it benefits the athletes physically (being able to metabolise fats and alternative sources of energy) and mentally?

Zuhair mentions it here, the biggest challenges of training during Ramadan is the dehydration and lack of sleep/rest. The evenings are supposed to be for prayers etc in between meals, and during the day people have normal life and jobs, so yeah it's not easy.
