Hi everyone, this is John from Zoom and in this video, we’ll go over the benefits of using the iQ7 stereo microphone with your iOS device for better quality mobile recordings.
The iQ7 has two microphone elements: one is a directional "mid" mic that captures signal coming directly from the front of your iOS device. The other is a bi-directional "side" mic that captures audio coming from the left and right sides. Mid-side is an advanced recording technique that allows the width of the stereo image to be varied to create a wide stereo field, or a narrow, targeted sound, even in post-production. This gives a whole new level of precision in your ability to shape sound.
A three-way switch allows you to select between 90 degrees and 120 degrees, depending on your desired stereo width. Choosing 90 degrees allows the iQ7 to focus on sounds coming from the center, while choosing 120 degrees allows you to capture a wider image that includes more room sound and ambience. A third setting, labeled "M-S," lets you record "raw" audio and adjust its stereo width or image using your audio software. This setting is available when using the Zoom Handy Recorder app. Lastly, the iQ7 has a rotatable capsule which will allow for the correct microphone orientation depending on if you are recording audio, or video.
Let’s compare recordings from the built-in mono iOS microphone and the stereo iQ7 in the 90 degree setting. We will start with the iOS microphone.
In comparison to the iOS microphone, the iQ7 records audio that’s fuller and clearer than the iOS microphone itself. Notice that you also get a stereo width from the addition of the iQ7’s bi-directional side mic that cannot be achieved using the mono iOS mic.

Which iOS device did you use for comparison? People are saying it's not compatible with iPhone X or later than iPhone 6
You may have adressed this but can you use this mic and record video on your iPhone? (I use my iPhone for everything).

You can use the native iOS camera app
My iphone is 12 pro Max. When I used IQ7 to record my daughter's performance on piano, why I heard the obvious noise just like the electrical impulse on the recording. What I should do? Many thanks!

I bought one with new iphone and it works
Good descriptive video. A little frustrating that the iq7 audio is louder than the original iphone video right? Misleads the ear because louder is better.

The iQ7 is only compatible with iOS devices that have Lightning ports such as iPhones or iPads.
Hi, can charge the iOS device when the mic is attached?

every demo video shows not having an iPhone or iPad case :(
It does not fit onto the iPhone with a case on leaving your iPhone completely vulnerable to breakage, especially glass backed iPhones, Why wouldn't you make the connection so it fits into any case, seems like an extremely obvious design oversight ?

There is a black plastic spacer at the bottom of the iQ7 that can be removed for this exact reason. If it still does not fit, you will need to use a short Lightning extension cable.
I’ve just bought the IQ7 and downloaded the app, but the editing function doesn’t work-touching the cut button has no result at all

It may have sounded ok as standard, but with the iQ7, you can definitely hear the difference in sound quality

I just got one. For the life of me, I cannot figure out which side is the front side, meaning which side points to the source. Please help
