    Dude I am so glad you posted all these videos. Was actually floored to see the exact same bike I am working on!!! I bought a 99' in the exact same shape...bike would not spark, bad battery (and wrong battery), gummed up carb, no brakes and something seemed to be up with the 4x4. Like yours mine has been very abused. Got everything fixed and bike starts but the thing runs like crap...spits, sputters and "coughs" just like yours!!! I had pretty much given up and was actually looking into sel

    @RobertJeremiahSeal That's great news! I was running mine again today. I have a ball hitch on the back, and pull a old wagon my Dad made many years ago. we use it for all kinds of jobs, and used to pull it with a tractor, but now I find the quad gives me more manuverability. Have fun, stay safe!

    Thanks! I really like this quad. It looks a little banged up, but iy is fun to ride, and I use a ball hitch on the back to pull a wagon for chores.

    Was looking into selling but your videos inspired me to look a little closer. Tore open the carb today to find the long valve thing had the clip set on the third ring as well...going to try the second one to see if it helps!!!

    @RobertJeremiahSeal If that does not work, check for a clogged passage in the carb body. There are several, and they are tiny! Glad you like the videos.

    @RobertJeremiahSeal Heat! Use a propane or Mapp torch, but do not over do it. Heat the bolt head, then strike it with a small hammer, then let it cool. If still not breaking free, repeat steps. For the one you rounded out, try clamping onto it with vice grips. Also try a penetrating product like Kroil or deep creep.

    Steve, I had EXACTLY the same symptoms as you did and I tried your fix of lowering and raising the jet needle without any noticeable difference. However, what i did find finally is I had mixed up the main jet and starter jet as there are exactly the same thread bit difference pilot hole. Swapped the jets and Voila, everything worked as it should.

    interesting. I have also heard a partially blocked jet can give similar symptoms. some people report their carb blowing right off the manifold due to the backfire being so severe.

    Put the carburetor back on and started up and let it set on choke for a minute or so and then took off choke and I had no sputter!! However I need to pop the cylinder head cover and clean and apply new high temp silicone to seal t off...having an oil leak on one side which causes a little smoking off exhaust (at least I think) after running for a few minutes!!

    @stevewatr...it is 100% confirmed now...the quad runs great!!! I just got her back together and took her for a spin around town and she runs like a scalded dog!!! I was unable to perform all the fixes I wanted to do...but getting it to run was more important...and seeing as how this is going to be mud puppy I really don't care if everything works...or is rigged for that matter!! The bolts I stripped on the inspection cover...yeah I just JB welded it back on!!!

    Mark the square top adjustments screw with white paint if it's tight see where the square is before braking lose set with proper clearance look where square head is then u know where it's got to be when tight so clock it a Lil bit different and tight let it rotate but work it out where it stops where u know it's right u don't got to hold it your welcome hope that makes sense

    I have the same problem with a 1998 yamaha grizzly 600 if you give it gas and it does that it will blow the carb off, I have installed a new carb, a new ign. Coil, new ngk spark plug and adjusted the valves to specs. And dropped the exhaust just for good measure I am at a loss as to what to do next, still does the same thing, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

    Hey Steve, hoping you still monitor this I know it’s old. I have a 1999 Grizzly 600,having a terrible time with carb. Have rebuild it and keep getting backfire at 1/4 throttle, have moved the needle up and down without much success. I have not checked valves yet. Any magical advice. Frustrating

    Hi. Watched the video. First thing is make sure the valve clearances are correct. Another thought, I have seen a head gasket leak cause the same sound. Reuse of a head gasket and or improper torque of head bolts.

    The needle slots change the richness and leaness. You need angled feeler guages . I wouldnt of went to 7 thousandth thats to much it 2 to 4 is your window do 3 the needle clip dont change the alignment of the needle it changes the height. The height changes the mixture.

  • @stevewatr

    @stevewatr

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks. Do you think 7 thousandths might be why the auto compression release seems to not work?? This thing has never been easy for the starter to turn over for me unless it starts spinning from the right point in the cycle. Sometimes I'd have to bump the starter and let the crank bounce back to get it too a good point where the starter could push on through.

    Gaetan Bédard hello. I think I was not sure myself, so I'd recommend it like this. there's 5 slots, lets call the slot closest to the blunt end #1, and the slot closest to the needle point #5. I had the clip in #3 to start with, and it wasn't good. I then moved it to either #2 or #4, and nothing improved, so I moved it 2 slots in the other direction and it fixed my issue. so I'd recommend you move it one slot in one direction, and if it doesn't improve, try going the other way. hope tbis helps. one more thing, dirty carb, water in the fuel, and dirty air cleaner can also cause this type of issue.
