XYZprinting Da Vinci 1.0 3D Printer Full Review
Ғылым және технология
A full detailed review about the goods and bads about this printer. I explain everything like about the printer and ramble about how the software sucks. I show a couple prints I made with the printer and show the printer making a print at the end of the video.

Watching 3D printer vids like others to help in choosing something to mess with. This will be my starter. Thanks for taking the time to review this device.
I started watching this thinking I was going to hate your review but glad I watched on. This was very helpful and informative. Thank you for the review!
Awesome video, thanks for taking the time to film/upload!
Thanks a lot for the detailed review, it answered a lot of my questions. I'll be picking one of these up tomorrow and quickly installing Repetier!
Great review! In depth and detailed. Gave me all the information in needed to be confident to purchase one. Thanks!
Dude thank you so freaking much! every other video i couldnt get the process to work at all until i found your video. This was simple and easy to follow and worked like a flippin charm awesome job
Thanks for putting up this video. It's really informative.
THANK YOU!! Good lord gracious everybody loves to either talk about how great certain 3d printers are or how shitty they are but finally I found you my boy, you tell me exactly WHY the product is good or bad and your recommendations. Excellent review.
thanks for the video. I am subscribing and looking forward to the video on how to flash it to run on repetier. I ordered mine on the black friday sale and also the only reason I considered this printer was that fact that it can be hacked. once again thanks for you taking time to share this with others.
Thank you Jacob for a great review. I got the XYZ as well. Something that help me to avoid the base warping is: I cover the heated bed with wide blue masking tape, and on top I use UHU stick glue. Since then all my models came out perfect, and to clean the heated bed, I just remove the masking tape. Keep up the great work!
Cool video , thanks for the info!! Very informative!!!
Great Review! I already had one on the way, but this is all great info. Thx! Also, I read a few places that said using "Blue Masking Tape" On the print bed makes it stick very well to the bed. Not tested yet, but I'll update when i do
Excellent review. Very in depth. Thanks.
Great video man! plenty of info
thanks for the great demonstration.
EBay sells it thru Newegg for $399. to and no tax. Amazon adds tax. I just got mine an hour ago. Can't wait to set it up and start printing. Great video bro
I like the way he reviews this thing. Pretty honest.
you can spray the bed with Hairspray to help the print stick better :-)
Great video, Thanks for all the info. I also subed and would like to see a video on the firmware update.
now this,,,is a review!!!!!!! thanks!
great review
Best video some important information was given
Excellent video review. Best I've seen on this printer. XYZ has the same problem that I lot of tech companies do. They obviously have very good design engineers, but the corporate bean-counters, marketing, and management then F everything up with their ill conceived approach to trying to extort extra profits out of their customers. Any extra profits they realize are typically short-lived. People get wise to this crap pretty fast and it usually has a very damaging effect on the company. The management and marketing people need to let the engineers do their job and stay the hell out of their way.
Thank you so much for putting this video together. I was trying to find some kind of in-depth review that gave some differences between the stock firmware and the repetier firmware. I really appreciate you showing close ups of the prints and giving us a good look inside the printer too. I have your firmware upgrade video queued up and am looking forward to seeing that. FYI to those watching: amazon dropped the price on this printer last night to $399.99. That seems like an awesome deal to me. Thanks again for the in depth review! Subscribed and looking forward to more 3D printing videos!

***** I've seen those filament resetters and they look pretty nice. I think I'll probably end up with the repetier on it just because I like the option to adjust all the settings. It should also open up options that will allow me to print with other materials. For just printing ABS though, the resetter is certainly a good option.

***** Thanks for sharing! That is definitely another option. I think repetier still give more options (speed for example), but for $25 that is pretty slick.

***** Awesome! It sounds like repetier is the way to go. I'll probably flash the firmware in pretty short order. I already have a thingiverse collections of upgrades I want to print for it. lol

Why doesn't he make a stand for the roll of filament on top of the 3d printer, so he doesn't have it on the floor
You can add the cleaning nozzle feature before printing into repetier host by adding "M100" into the post-start gcode in the slicer. Works very well
Hey, man == Great Review👍👍👍 . I am in printing almost 10 years with Afinia 480. Never had this problems. Looking for slightly better resolution, but just see more hassle with modern stuff.
Also for wiping the nozzle in Repetier, all you need to do is add custom g-code at the beginning which extrudes a bit to get it primed, then wipe it back and forth by moving the x axis motor then it moves to the print code
great video
Hi Jacob Great video and well done, I have just bought one, and started playing with it, I am really keen to see you video on changing the firmware and the Repetier Host software...when would you be able to do a video on it. And also have you Calibrated the printer I would love to see a video on how it is done, I have tried and the manual is hard to follow Cheers
hey jacob, i would consider playing around with bed temperatures or use hairspray. you can also use kapton tape.also when printing in abs you can mix abs with acetone and make abs juice.
Just purchased one a couple of hours ago and can't wait to get it in and start printing!! Couple of question/comments - yes, please do a video of the firmware upgrade to repeatier. And, secondly, with you filament sitting on the floor, does the printer struggle to feed the filament in that position? Thanks!
I like my Epson Office inkjet printer because of the resolution, speed, color, dual side printing, low cost yields, multiple materials and sizes, easy to use, and great price. It seem that there are no standards to 3D printers and for multiple materials, features and price can varies like a pebble to a mountain. Maybe I am too harsh on these technologies but after doing some research and owned 2 3d printers that failed (defects), I am wearing thin of my enthusiasm. Is it easy to upgrade the firmware? This upgrade, is it like a "crack" firmware that bypasses much of the problems? What about fumes? Do you use ABS or PLA, both, and how often of the other? With the new firmware, can you control the temperatures for other materials? Use painter tape for pla but make sure there are no overlapping of tape. Thanks
shot you a message about setting for the repetier and slic3r, love the video
If you keep all the doors/top closed while printing and heating up it might help with the adhesion.
can you please show how to upgrade software? can't find your next video, and can you tell me where to find the software you talked about, thanks, great video
Thanks for making this video. Looks like an awesome machine. For the platform I would try zig two way glue. Amazon sells it in a jumbo pen and it is temporary glue after you let it set.
nice video! upgrading that firmWare is a must! :p
Watched your video just before I took delivery of my Da Vinci 1.0. Since then, I have made numerous prints both big and small and from a few hours long to over 10 hour prints. To date, I have had not one occurrence of a print failure due to the cartridge becoming loose or disengaging from the EEPROM connection. I saw late in your video that you forgot to attach the retaining clip to the top of the cartridge. Could this be the reason for your issue? As well, I installed Simplify3d a few days ago (running the most recent firmware) and my prints have improved considerably.
Thanks for the video... I've been thinking about getting one. Also, I hope you know the monster logo is Hebrew translated to 666.
Why have the spool on the floor when you can 3d print your own holder? Yeah I know the video is old but still thought I should mention it. Also, thank you for the review. really helps out a lot! :)
I recently began using a laptop over my desktop and am having a issue. Whenever I hit print a message comes up that says "device not found". The connections are all good but it also has a yellow triangle over the printer under devices. Any advice?
for platform adhesion try buildtak, they cost about $10 and you just stick it on your buildplate and plastic sticks to it alot better. its basicly just a sheet of a plastic like material with one side sticky so you can attatch it to you build plate and the other side has some sort of texture that the plastic attatches to pretty well and sticks alot better
Do you have to purchase a 3d scanner to make items you want to create? Or does the software let you design a piece and print it out?
Jacob, is there a forum I can check out for additional information?
With the upgraded firmware can it still print the test 3d prints like the XYZ keychain you showed?
I'm thinking of getting me one of these for my first 3-D printer

Did you buy one? If so what was your experience?
hi. do you know anything bout the 1.0s vesrion of this printer ( the one with built in scanner). Question is, can I change the firmware on that one and still have the scanner feature? cheers
Will you need to clean the parts? Did you need a specific software to install or is there a file format that the printer will take? Thanks
Hi community.I have lost the heat in both extruder and bed .Simultaneousely ! in between two print using my davinci 1.0. Any Idea? The temperatures sensors works ,but the elements doesn't warm up.
How do you bypas the cassette thing, could see you had the tread from the top...
So just to be 100% clear, if I change the firmware of on the printer I don't have to use those proprietary carriages? Thanks.
Great video thanks for posting, just wondering if it would be possible to make a small plastic panel say 7 inches by 2 inches, at a guess........ 2.5 or 3 mm thick ? im thinking here of using it create and automotive panel for a car dash board. Also i was wondering if it would be possible to get the plastic/filler in clear so the item is see through ??? this would be handy for some items. Edit : what are the maximum dimensions for an item ?? thanks again.
great video but u didn't mention how the bed leveling and nozzle height setup work.
Couldn't you program in the nozzle cleaning feature using the g code editor?
hi jacob.. whats the name software did you use to design the sample mold?
Just experimenting with mine and the adhesion and thus warping issue. Worked okay with the UHU glue stick that came with it but I just ordered a BuildTak sheet which promises appropriate adhesion without the usual mess and as far as I've read comments on it, it seems to work quite nicely. I'll give it a try on friday ;)

Added the BuildTak sheet yesterday: works like a charm! Not a single item popped off the surface since and afterwards they still come off pretty easily! No more mess with goo that won't keep stuff in place =D Leveling the platform is a bit annoying with a headed extruder though due to it burning holes into the sheet on touch. Nevermind, great item!
Is it possible to use the firmware with the Aio version of the 3D printer. It's the one with the builtin scanner?
I was thinking about buying this printer, Is there better printers for the same price? Do you still have this printer or do you have another printer that is better? Thanks Joe
I just got this printer a few days ago and I am new to the whole thing and reading comments I am terrified it's going to break. Have you had any parts break yet? are they easy to replace or find since xyz doesnt sell replacements? if it breaks am i just stuck with a 500 dollar piece of junk then or what?
They have gotten better recently with a wider range of printers and way better software Now they have printers where you use any kind of filament for only $300 which is not bad. Even full color printers! One thing they can be better is proprietary filament when they can make it more accurate and detect it being empty when it is really empty. But they do have good filament sales from time to time on their website. When I got my first printer Davinci jr. 1.0w I remember the original software being so buggy and the translations are hilarious, but now the software is much better and not as buggy.
Why is the filament not through the guide tube at the back.
Does the software work on a Mac? Nice Vid
So wait, gotta question for ya. You said this thing can print things out of the box, and don't need to connect to the computer? Is it wireless? Like could I have the printer in 1 room and print it from somewhere else from a computer?
Just out of curiosity, what 3D modeling program do you use?
i think something that the 3d printing community can learn is g&m code. at 17:18 youre talking about not being able to resume a print, but you could probably edit the g code to start at the point that it stopped. but you would need to know the line that it failed on. you would have to delete the code before the fail and go on from there....
Since ur using abs I'd suggest u brush on some acetone it will melt the abs a bit and fuse it to the platform I don't think it will work for pla but if you want try
We use hair spray to fix the fisrt layer of the abs of the part. You could try it.
hallo, I have hacked my printer and have loaded the repetier, since then the printer z axis does not move up, nor the heat bed heats up. the z axis moves down though. so either the sensor thinks it is in the most top position, how do I fix this pleas
Great Video! Thank you very much. Would be great if you upload a video of the "hacking"-process! Greetings from germany!
It looks like you are printing from the more economical spool. I thought you had to use their spool, did using different software allow you to use the economical resin?
It's been a few months - if there's no video how to upgrade the firmware, can you link to some txt based site instead perhaps?
How do you upgrade firmware? do you have a video on that?
Well this is worth my money (after upgrading the firmware to save on buying filament and custom settings, thanks for that ;) ) and it would be cool to use for Spider-Man project I have in mind :) and the price dropped a hundred bucks on amazon!
Good video mate yes will be sure to upload the repetier firmware. Question does the machine use real linear bearings or just brass bushings on the axis,s it hard to see. Also does it use belts on all 3 axis,s or just 2 axis with the Z driven by a screw ? Cheers Steve AUSTRALIA

Brass bushings,, belts on X Y axis,, Z screw driven(bed).
Where can a person get the firmware you mentioned? Is it freeware?
My question not related to this video but please be kind to help me out. Recently I have received Davinici 1.0 3D Printer from my friend. I could not print because the cable from Build bed to main board has missing( not the Heating sensor). When I try to print without connecting I get warning massage "For issue 0013" I have contacted costumer service. they said cable cannot send alone unless you order new print bed. but that specific cable not come with printbed. Kindly someone can help me solve the issue and run the printer.
can this printer use flexible material like ninja flex filaments?
So can you fix the chip issue by upgrading?
The Da Vinci Mini and the Da Vinci Jr are both using chipped filaments from xyzprinting. With the help of an NXP PN512 the printer reads the NFC Tag which ships with the original spools and determines various values from it, like total length, remaining length, color and material. The problem now with that system is that you have to use the filaments from xyzprinting, and are not allowed to use different (and cheaper) ones. Because not everyone is happy with this some awesome people decided to try to hack it.
I wouldnt buy a 3d printer with a custom filament cartridge. Would freezing the chip work?
How long do the phone cases take to print?
When you flashed the firmware, do you loose the auto bed level capability? do you have a link to any vids for flashing and uploading Repetier Host?

Ah okay awesome. I didn't think so because my current printer uses Repetier but has it but I wasn't sure if they kept the support for it.
How loud is it? I might want to upgrade my robe r1
hey Jacob great video I just picked a excellent used one of these and three cartridges of fillament for $310 shipped do you think I made a good decision

How was it?
To make it stick, use sweet water (sugar), works perfect!
Solution to have GOOD stick to the bed: hair spray + slow down first 2 layers to 15mm/s + 106% Flow And take your filament from the flour and make some good filament support above printer. With 608 bearings! This is your biggest reason why big prints unglued all the time.
Does anyones software have a PLA option. Mine is the Ai0 scanner printer, but I don't see a PLA option. The fast printing option also seems to run at around 90? Anyone get it to go faster?
Hi Jacob, enjoyed your video on Davinci 1.0. any more pros & cons since the video? Greg

After many more hours of printing I would say about 80 hours the bearing mounts failed and cracked. Unfortunately you cannot buy these bearing mounts but because someone else told me about the issue I actually printed them before they broke. They replaced surprisingly well and work great. Every once in a while belts need to be tensioned but besides that I have no regrets with the printer and it still works great to this day. However it is my understanding that the new printers cannot be flashed with repetier as easy, however I also understand that they have made improvements to their software and no longer use proprietary filament cartridges. I would say this printer is a great buy!

where did you get the firmware update?
Can you use Cura with it?
can you link in description the firmware and programs you use :-) thanks
How long do the printers last?
hi how do you download the software on the printer
what was the firmware that you changed it to?
I'm a Mac user and i truly feel that this printer is horrible. I got one in late 2014 and it busted after the first print. Some birdbath thing that's code is built-in. spent 18 months dealing with their subpar technical support before simply returning it to XYZ for repairs. I got it back today and the problem has yet to be resolved. The extruder simple can't keep up. I use CAD to design my own models and convert using their barebones software. I simple have not had the experience Jacob has. This machine... my machine has been a nightmare.
So if I print for 10 hours, do I have to keep my computer hooked up to it? If yes, then what if the computer falls asleep?
Can anyone compare the printing specs or performances between the - Folger Tech Kossel 2020 RepRap - and the firmware-MODDED version of the Da Vinci 1.0 in regards to - print quality - micron resolutions - printing speed - printing dimensions (area: X, Y, Z) - customer service or warranty - possibility to modify the printer (modding, etc.) - endurance of printer health (breaking parts, adjustments, etc.) ? Thanks.
Hello. I'm Diego and would like me to explain how I can use a filament (without cartridge) external to the DAVINCI 1.0. Pd: my Inglés is too bad.
