You are the man! Very helpful! I purchased this machine to familiarize myself with the 3d printing process (within my budget),and quickly became disappointed by the lack of control in xyz ware. The filament cartridges were another let down, once I got a feel for how much I would be using. You helped me fix the pitfalls of this machine and it is now what it should be. Very easy to follow, very informative, and VERY much appreciated.

I acquired my Da Vinci 1.0 used, couldn't for the life of me get XYZ's software to communicate with the printer at all. Couldn't get the Arduino software to flash it either for some reason. This process was a life saver. THANK you so much for the detailed instructions sir!

By far the easiest way to do flash your printer. It still work today. I searched for 2 days on how to flash XYZ Da Vinci 1.0a but no body had a way that still worked. Yours worked first try that you so much.

THANK YOU!! I spent most of my day today trying to get 0.92 on my DaVinci via Arduino (3 different versions) without success. Each time it reset the printer windows popped up an unrecognized device window, the com port disappeared from device manager, and the printer stayed dark with the black bars. I was to the point where I was downloading Atmel in a plan to flash factory firmware (which I don't even need now since you explained how to do that with bossac). Now I'm running 0.91 after the first attempt thanks to you! Wish I'd seen your video hours ago.

Any problems regarding repetier firmware/host, or is it working good so far? I heard you can also implement a g-code line into Slic3r so it will use the filament scraping tower for the extruder when it starts.

Hi Jacob, thanks for the lesson, very clear instructions but like some other viewers although the reboot went well the Z axis still only goes down. Could it be that the printer is broken? I have checked the stepper drivers which all work.Any ideas perhaps? Thanks anyway.

Thanks for this video. Rescued a da vinci 1.0. It wouldn't see any cartridges. It's now a pleasure to use. Repetier is vastly superior to standard software also. Still well worth doing, 2022

my friend i just saw your video and i liked what you did to get rid of davinci stupid firmware and am thinking to make like what you did but before that i need to confirm three things : 1-will this work with davinci pro printer? 2-what do you think about your move after a year now? 3-in my printer now the bed stuck in top level and i tried all the method to lower it with no luck so my question here is: in repiter firmware is there option to lower the bed?

Do you know what firmware you started with? Some davinci's ship with different stock firmware. Was it 1.1j? 1.0.1?

Just wondering will the hack open up the SD card so you can print from? Just like you can with a lot of the latest printers we can get now?

For the newer version of this printer with the newer board please check out this forum. I just attempted this and worked without a problem so far.

Hey bud, I wonder if you could help me? So I'm new to 3D printing and I purchased a Da Vinci 1.0 original printer used. I had followed another video similar to yours and flashed it because I could not get the xyzware software to even acknowledge it. Well when I follow the steps and I get to the folder where the additional files are supposed to be it lists 1.6.9 or 1.8.0 arduino files. So now I'm stuck with a printer that I flashed and have not been able to figure out how to install firmware. Is it possible for you to help?

Great Work Jacob, I just did this successfully on my MAC. A few struggles as you can imagine but got there in the end. I have Itemised the Mac issues/instructions on a word doc for Mac users if any one wants them then reply with your email. Also, to center your extruder the EEPROM Settings are X-34, Y-12 and Z depends on your calibration height but -3 is a good start.

bradley morgan Flash it with the XYZ FW or the Repeatier FW or any open source FW, they are all the same idea, use the same method. I flashed it with stock FW, aka downgrade it to the 1.1.J, then I can use the filament resetter. Soon or later, I will flash it with open source FW, when I need to upgrade the hot end to E3D V6.

I think im going to update the firmware to RH, but there is alot of people saying that after printing for an hour or so, it will be spagetti with the print? =/ I have a new 1.0A, with the new board, can I update it with this firmware? And can I use the simplify3D that I bought for it?

so most of this process went well except I have the 1.0 AiO printer/scanner and I'm having issues with the bed not coming up and no light. I'm not completely upset about the light but I can't print.

My pritner's lights don't turn on, and it doesn't print anymore, just moves around not heating up nor extruding. It is the newer one without reset pins and a micro sd card though so probably just have to wait for a newer firmware version

Is there anyway I can get some 2018 help with a XYZ Printing DaVinci 2.0a reflash? For home use I want freedom! Just need help with the Arduino portion (making sure I have the correct software before I short the j37 pin)

The version that amazon is selling for $399 says "3d printer" on the front door and has a slightly different controller card in the back. It has a micro sd card instead of a standard sd card. The stepper controllers are directly on the mainboard rather than on those little raised boards. There isn't an updated version of slicer for the new board yet. If you are buying a Da Vinci to update it, you may want to wait a little bit.

This is not entirely true. I ordered the Da Vinci 1.0 from Amazon and it arrived today. It is version 1.1.G. Apparently some people are getting the 1.0A with new controller and others are getting the older version. I was very pleased to see that I got the older version so that I could easily install repetier. :)

there are a lot of message said xyz is not good, with defect.. but how about new Xyz 1.0 "PRO"?? i plan to buy.. should I????

Many thanks. I would like to echo John Parker's comments below. I also tried newer methods, but I was unable to un-brick my printer using different Arduino versions with Arduino DUE with both linux and windows software. I have not figured yet what I did incorrectly with the previous methods. The software compiled properly and the compiled file was verified as being written correctly to the printer. But on an ubuntu linux box I installed the bossac software and my printer was un-bricked instantly using the method outlined in your video.

Can you do this on Linux without Wine? Both the Arduino IDE and Repetitor are available for Linux. (If it helps I have Ubuntu MATE)

There are newer mainboards that are different and don't have a JP1 erase jumper. If your serial number starts with 3F10A it is one of the new boards. The new boards have jumper pads labeled J37 which is the new erase jumper. If you have one of these boards the earlier binaries will not work. The new board has wiring changes and dramatically different thermistor calibrations. As of this moment, you will need the newest 0.92 alpha firmware source from Github. You will need to edit the configuration.h file and compile the firmware with Arduino yourself. "#define MODEL 1//"0" for first generation (jumper JP1 to reset ) , "1" for new generation (jumper J37 to reset)"

I would like to say a HUGE Thank YOU! I have been trying the newer methods listed with no success. I followed your simple steps and like one minute later..Repetier Loaded. On small question. Any suggestions how to get Windows to recognize it again? It does not appear under Comms Port. I do see Ardunio Due listed as a composite USB device.

After moving it to its own USB Port and off the USB hub that my other 3D printer shared, Ardunio Due appeared by itself under comms ports and not alone as a composite USB Device.

So new ones can't be updated like this? I should have got one for $399 on spec from Amazon.

If I switch the firm ware will it work on windows vista ? I believe this machine won't work on vista out of the box

Please Help! i did this a few months ago but my computer wont communicate to the printer after i factory reset the pc so im trying to redownload this. the computer will not see the printer as a bossac but instead aa arduino due and it will not work

Hi. what settings are you using in slic3r?

do you need to have your computer connected the entire time you are printing with Repiter? Or can you send the job and disconnect it like you can with the stock firmware?

You can send the job to the sd then start the job from the printer without needing to be connected.

Does this also work on the 1.0 AIO?

I am hesitant to try it as I cannot find the stock firmware to flash it back if I don't like it. I've been trying to search it out with no luck could you possibly add it to your download so we can undo this if we don't like the upgrade.

With repetier firmware and host you can use almost any filament as long as you change the setting accordingly.

Hey Jacob great video.. i have the Da Vinci AiO and im would like to this but my board is a little different and it doesnt have a J1 jumper, is there anyway you could help me out I would really appreciate it. I can send you pics of the board if that would help.

hey, i thought i would put it out there that xyz have released a new mother board, that this current firmware doesnt work on and also that you cant turn back and fix it, I highly recommend that no one flash these new motherboards until there is an "stable" update on the firmware

Does this still work? I got the Da Vinci 1.0 for Christmas, and it had me do a firmware or software upgrade, i'm not sure which, but i don't know if they blocked this off with the update. Also, I know that this voids the warranty, does anyone know where you can buy replacement parts just in case something goes wrong in the future?

Yes, kinda. You can go to the DaVinci website and get a new extruder, bed, and power supply but that is it.

I hope someone sees this, I have a Davinci 1.0a and when I manual control the printer bed, it goes down and gets stuck, as well as the bed not heating. someone help please!

This post may be too old to respond to but I figure I'd give it a shot. Everything went well, the BOSSAC command wrote, verified and age CPU reset and returned to the command prompt but the Davinci just sits and the same screen it gets when you erase the firmware. Reboots to no avail. Any ideas? It is an older model and I've flashed it before to downgrade the XYZ firmware once upon a time.

Does this work on the 2.0A duo?
