Why can't just physically hack the cartridge and block sensor? Or does the cartridge count the turns on the hub or spindle in order to guess how much is remaining?

There is no sensor. Printer writes direcly the remaining length along the print based on order sent to the feeding motor.

iv sorted it u need to make sure its connected when u flash with arduino worked a treat

Ich versteh nicht warum man das Filament chipen muss. Das hat doch damals mit dem Tintenstrahldruckern schon nicht funktioniert... 🤮
