XYZ DaVinci 1 0A with Repetier 0.92 Bed Leveling technique

Ойындар

levelling the print bed can be very tricky. It took me a while to fully understand which adjustment screws affected which numbers.
┌─────────────┐
│4.....+..................-.....1│
│.......C.................A......│
│.......-...................+......│
│...................................│
│3.............+B-............2│
└─────────────┘
This very bad drawing shows the way I identify the adjustment controls and the autolevel result numbers. This is what I use the controls to adjust.
Control A (Positive) + direction moves point 1 UP and point 3 DOWN
Control A (Negative) - direction moves point 1 DOWN and point 3 UP
Control B (Positive) + direction moves point 2 AND 3 UP and point 1 AND 4 DOWN a little
Control B (Negative) - direction moves point 2 AND 3 DOWN and point 1 AND 4 UP a little
Control C (Positive) + direction moves point 4 UP and point 2 DOWN
Control C (Negative) - direction moves point 4 DOWN and point 2 UP
Control A AND C (Positive) + direction by the SAME AMOUNT moves point 1 AND 4 UP and point 2 AND 3 DOWN
Control A AND C (Negative) - direction by the SAME AMOUNT moves point 1 AND 4 DOWN and point 2 AND 3 UP
Control A, B AND C (Positive) + direction by the SAME AMOUNT moves ALL points UP
Control A, B AND C (Negative) - direction by the SAME AMOUNT moves ALL points DOWN
Here are my original numbers and how I'd plan to get started.
point 1 = 1.602
point 2 = 1.456
point 3 = 1.365
Control C to bring point 2 and close to point 3
Control A and C together to bring point 1 close to point 2 and 3
All controls together to get to the target number
If you have any questions about this just let me know and I'll try to help. Enjoy :)

ThxQ so so much, I wanted to give you 10 thumbs up for this video. I had the 1.0 for a while now, and had always wanted the flash it. I have the confident to flash it to Repetier firmware, but I didn't have the technical knowledge in setting the printer up with Repetier host software. This video is a great starting point for me in getting the bed level. I hope you can do some more future videos showing how to fine tune the setting for the Da Vinci with Repetier Host.

Hi Steve, I successfully leveled my bed following your original post with the Davinci 1.0. Although after printing I was finding -0.6 on the Z-offset was squeezing the first layer just a little too much in that my prints were .5 - .75 of millimeter too short on the hight. I found setting the Z-offset to -0.3 cured the issue and still stuck fast to the bed while printing. Excellent videos Steve. You provide much informative info. Couldn't have got there without your help. Thanks

After upgrading my hotend to an E3D V6 (great videos BTW!) I lost the auto level feature which now after not having it for a few months is something I don't miss. My technique has been to run the manual level feature in repetier 0.92 and using a .10 or .08 feeler gauge I adjust them manually at the preset positions. I usually run it twice just to be sure a correction I made later on didn't change something I made earlier on. So far this has worked great. I do need to adjust my Z-offset a bit since my first layer is a little too squished but so far so good!

where does the 0.6mm z-offset come from? If I am understanding correctly the Z home pos comes from the numbers that are displayed from the calibration. Yours are near 1.5 so I am guessing that you entered -1.5 for the Z home pos, but I can only get my calibrated to about 1.2 so I have entered -1.2 for Z home pos, but dont understand if I also need to enter 0.6mm for the z-offset or if that number is different. Thanks for the great video!

Hello i am the owner (italian) of a davinci 1.0a ... i think you did a great job explaining the steps to optimize it. I still use the original firmware, but I think I will soon use the mod to enjoy it thoroughly by knowing the known limitations. I just wanted to advise you (hoping for an answer) my calibration method: I use a tester in the contact mode with the terminals so you hear the beep when you create continuity between the probe next to the extruder and the bed sensitive plans. Sorry for any bad translation I hope is understandable

A fyi, when performing the auto bed level it would keep failing at point 3. I found the sensor was barely touching the metal, I loosened the screw, push the metal in and tightened back up. After that I was able to calibrate all three points.

Hi, I know that this is very old, but I recently received one of these printers. It was given to me because the previous owner replaced it after the hot end went bad. I have purchased an E3D hot end as a replacement. The printer already has Repetier 0.92 installed. I wanted to follow the excellent videos that you have posted, but you stress that I must first follow this step. Trouble is that my printer does not have a working hot end. Therefore I can not get past the heating stages to proceed. Any advice on how I can move forward with the hot end install? I certainly don't want to crash the new E3D.

Steven, Thanks for the video. I know it is quite old now and you have probably moved on to other printers. However, maybe you can help me. I just followed your procedure for levelling. However, it was impossible to try to get figures of -1.5. If I tried then the z probe failed (I think because the z home sensor was triggering first i.e the bed was too low. I managed to get the bed level but with figures of -4.8. I noticed you added a z offset in the Repetier software of 0.6. I figure that your level of -1.5 but with an offset of 0.6 your final position is 0.9 (-1.5 +0.6 = 0.9). So if I wanted to end up with a figure of 0.9 I would need a z offset of 3.9 (-4.8 + 3.9 = 0.9). Is that how it works? I was given this printer to play with so am a newbie. Hope you can help / explain. Thanks for the video anyway - vert clear instructions. Chris

The auto bed leveling works perfect for me. I recently picked up a Davinci 1.0 (Sep. 2017) and flashed it with the latest Repetier Host firmware. The version of Repetier Host that I have has an additional option under the Maintenance menu called Zmin Evaluation. I noticed that this video doesn't have this option and so if it's been awhile since you flashed your Davinci, I would suggest updating to the lastest version of Repetier Host firmware. The Zmin Evaluation was the key for me to get auto bed leveling to work. I noticed that if I used Auto Level Bed option, the Z min position gets set to 0.00 in the EEPROM no matter what adjustments I make to the bed. (You can view your EEPROM settings in Repetier Host) This causes the extruder head to dig into bed. The Zmin Evaluation does the exact same thing as the Auto Level Bed; however, the Zmin Evaluation option will also set the Z min position in the EEPROM to the appropriate setting according to the adjustments you make to level the bed. Note that when you're leveling your bed, it doesn't matter what your Z position readings are so long as the 3 position readings are roughly the same. Also, the Z offset in Slic3r should be set to 0 if you use this method.

I honestly recommend getting the Davinci Calibrator app from the amazon app store if your numbers are WAY off. It's set for using stock davinci calibration numbers, which is basically mm without a decimal point. The app rounds to .05, so while it's not perfect, it will get you pretty darn close on the first try and then use the info in this video to get it dialed in perfectly. It's $1.99 well spent IMHO.

Hi Steven. First thanks for the time and effort in producing this video. 1) I see my first question was answered in some replies. Why 1,5 mm. It seems a number you like. I set mine to 1,0. Actually this means one can spent less time to get the value you want (ie 1,5) and stop when the levels are equal (ie 1,53) and update the Z zero position in the EEPROM with this figure. 2) Why not say "yes" to the prompt "Write to EEPROM" at the end of the auto calibration procedure (when you are happy with the levels). What does this do? I would imagine it writes the mean value to the EEPROM. The same value one enters using the Repetier Host program EEPROM menu option.

  • @stevenqneuk8

    @stevenqneuk8

    8 жыл бұрын

Hi Ian, your right, the -1.5 was just a nominal number I used. With the version of Repetier I flashed to my DaVinci, if I selected "Write to EEPROM" it would write 0 every time so I'd have to fix it manually. They've probable fixed that in later releases, but that's how it was when I made this video.

Check your calibration location point next to the nozzle and the metal pads are clean. If the pin doesn't make an electrical contact it doesnt know when to stop driving. Cleaning with a solvent helps provided that you don't have lots of glue around. Glue will dissolve will cause an invisible insulated film to be left on the pads!. I had this problem. Once I cleaned contact areas full everything was fine.

Greetings Steven Good vid got me on the right track. I realize vid is over one year old but was a great help to me after flashing Repetier .92 on my DaVinci 1.0a. Mate I would like to know where or why you chose -1.500mm for your target. I am curious as to how this number figures into the final equation. I have not tried leveling to your -1.500mm yet until I can understand the final numbers. Thanks!

+hector bombino Great question. I leveled the bed before flashing Repetier Host 0.92 onto it. I then leveled it again after flashing it and the numbers wee very close to -1.500 so I used that as my target and worked the Z Offset in slicer from that. I guess the bed could be leveled to 0.00 but them the Z Offset would require a whole set of discovery again.

Josh Backman Hi Josh. First thing to look at is the Micro SD card that is installed in the printers main board. Take a copy of all the files from the card (just in case you need them again) and make sure the card is empty before re-installing it into the printer. Then, when flashing the printer the very very last step is to Load Fail-Safe. This will save a new file to the Micro SD card. If you miss this step then some menu options are not available and all your printer settings will not be saved after power off. hope this helps Steve

StevenQ-NE-UK Hi Steve, Thanks for the quick response, I really like all the content you post on your DaVinci printer experiences. I did get this figured out, here's what I did encase anyone asks again. I was watching this video by "John Madden - Davinci 1.0 repetier settings breakdown" He opened his printer settings page @ 15:25 and that was it. There was just some settings I needed to updated after flash and install (Transfer Protocol, Reset on connect, cache size and ping-pong comm.) I'm not sure if i needed to match all his settings but after I did the "Firmware EEPROM config." opened up and I was able to proceed with the rest of the process. Thanks again for the quick response and all these great videos you've been posting.

+Craig Underhill Hang in there dude. It took me weeks to get a technique down for it.

+StevenQ-NE-UK Thanks. I finally took another approach. After failing for four hours straight, I ran the manual calibrate, which uses the paper method of leveling. Then, I set my Z Offset to -1.5 in an attempt at getting the right "smushing" of the first layer. Seems to have worked pretty well. I might try -1.0 just to see the difference.

That's great, when I had my DaVinci I never tried the manual level in Repetier. I am glad you got printing :)

+Kyler._.not._.Tyler No, it's with the local Maker Space now, so I still have access to it.
