In this video Rob & Tom go over the removal of a cruiser style headlight on our XR650L project bike and the installation of a JNS Morimoto LED headlight with a new cowling from Honda. If your headlight is leaving you to wonder what's actually in front of you at night (even with HI beams on), try switching to an LED headlight. A cause for concern for all motorcycle riders with poor lighting is, out riding your light. Meaning, the faster you travel, the farther out you need to see in order to make sound / quick judgments. You'll be amazed at the difference swapping over can make for you out on the trail.
Let's not forget that when you swap from an incandescent to an LED headlight you also free up at least 20-30 watts of electricity for other items such as heated gear. Dual sports just don't come from the factory with much, if any wiggle room from the factory in terms of being able to add electrical accessories and run them all together.
Now we are not trying to say the cruiser headlight wasn't bright or had any functionality concerns. It just wasn't an XR650L headlight, and we really missed having a cowling to block some of the highway wind we encountered. Plus, we have some other projects that we'd like to get started on but, require the factory cowling to be in place.
