XR650L B&B Bash Plate Install

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this week's XR650L build update, we go over the process of installing a B&B Off-Road Engineering bash plate. Watch the vide to see the comparison between the wimpy stock armor from Honda to the thick bash plate from B&B Off-Road
If you're looking to add a bash plate or skid plate to your bike, you cannot go wrong with B&B Off-Road. They make high quality premium armor for many popular models, and they are all made in the land down under, Australia! We are their U.S. distributor and offer anything from their product listings. If you cannot find one of their products on our website, please let us know and we will get you what you're looking for.
If you didn't know or were un-aware, there is a big difference between a bash plate and a skid plate. A skid plate is designed to offer protection to the front and bottom of the engine / frame with the intent of sliding over obstacles while being light in weight and size. Hence the word "skid" in the name.
A bash plate offers the same level of protection and then some. Usually in the form of protecting key engine components like oil filter covers, water pumps, and catalytic converters. These pieces of armor are designed to "Bash" into objects, with this level of protection can come some hefty weight to your bike.
Generally, bigger and heavier bikes need a bash plate, where smaller trail bikes can get away with a skid plate.

Thank you for watching and we believe Rob is quit "handy" to have around on this XR650L project, haha.

Thanks for the tip. We're still trying to narrow down what we plan to do for armor but, we'll try to incorporate more into future videos.

This is a progressive build. So, it's hard to say exactly when.

Man, if you guys could source a shop to make the parts for the transmission gearing swap, and how to perform it... you would sell a TON of them!!! That is my biggest complaint with the XR650L. The gearing sux. I've tried everything to get the best compromise between low rpm and highway use and it is still not really good for distance travel to get to my offroad destinations. I have every Fritzco front sprocket with a larger rear sprocket and still find myself wanting to change the sprockets for the road "long distance" then swap back to the smaller front sprocket once I get to where I'm going to be camping at. Sure wish I didn't have to do that, but the parts for the transmission gearing swap are almost non existent nowadays. Those parts and an install video would knock this build out of the park and 30 years of XR650L's could benefit from it!

Thank you for the input. Don't feel alone in your hunt for the "perfect" sprocket setup, we're all searching for it. Haha! What you're saying is that a wide ratio transmission gear set would be what the XRL community needs? We offer a couple for the DR650, maybe we could look into it for the XRL as well.

@@TeamProCycle Yea, definitely need that. Another thing that would sell like hot cakes is a kickstarter kit for the XR650L. Every forum you read almost about the xr650l is they didn't add a kickstarter for backup which makes no sense being this "ultra reliable bike". I would buy a kickstart kit in 2 seconds if someone made them for these bikes. As of now, everyone has to piece together parts off of xr600r bikes.
