One thing he doesnt mention but does it every time, is he pulls that russian to make the other guy step closer to him, so if anybody is having trouble catching the leg with your trip, make sure you give the arm a good jerk before you change levels and shuck it away

John Davis bro you need to chill, when your on the mat it doesn't matter about who it is, aim for your goal during that match, if it's to win then do whatcha gotta do, it's nothin personal everyone gets hurt, you don't want to purposely let them win and have them go against someone out of their league, I understand what you mean by them bein close and shit but sometimes you gotta hurt them to make them better

From the Russian, there is a "good" reaction for every one of your opponents' reactions (grabs the far wrist, tries to re-russian, fights the inside hand, etc.). If you work the Russian, I think this should be what you actively look for and hit if your opponent reacts by just staying in good position. I was lucky enough to learn this move from Kendall Cross at a clinic he did during the world team trials while I was in middle school. Once you get it to feel right, it's almost too easy :) Thanks for uploading these, Cary. I just got done coaching a pre-season boot camp for my old high school and I sent a few of the kids to check these videos out for extra credit.

Excellent lesson. Russian 2 on 1's are so ridiculously versatile. You should do a video on just inside trip technique, because until my coaches taught it to me I got flattened out in the million or so ways to mess up an inside trip.

one thing ive learned from experience doing russian ties is that normally the idea is to attempt and execute some type of trip but if a trip fails or the opponent stuffs it then you can transition right into a double leg or do a bear hug

@7carcalete I wrestled 189 in high school and now 184 in college, and can tell u from experience that this move works. Drill the motion a lot. I got a small table and would practice and pretend the legs of the table were my opponents legs. You can also hit the move from an over under, hit the trip on the overhook side.

Coach, I was thinking if you could hit a Metzger when defending the inside trip but the way you do it that would be highly unlikely. Is it possible for the defender to grab the opposite side of the head gear, underhook the far arm and try to throw the shooting wrestler over? Just contemplating. Thanks.

It's similar but the finishing mechanics are different. Ouchi gari typically involves moving the opponent's foot with a sweeping motion. The wresting version is a block and trip instead

Well actually I was thinking of the lockdown from 10th Planet JJ, they'll be able to hold you down from the bottom, and then you get whipped up, or whipped down, either way they'll end up on top, so its best to be careful no matter who your rolling with.

Juan Wong The opponent is going to try hard to belly out form the inside trip so it's be hard to pin him but you can try to split the legs or move to a navy hold to get back points and work up for a pin. Check out the full series at KOLAT.COM
