Your timing or your positioning is off. Unless you're not getting enough rotation in the process. As a beginner, Best time to hit a lateral in my opinion is when your opponent is coming up. (Ex: Shot, Far Knee Pick.)

Manjot Uppal If you arent tight such as deep inside over hook....it would definitely back fire Part of the truck to this move is you need to have your opponent tense so it’s best set up with an aggressive over hook from the tie up and I’m talking aggressive! Try to break his upper Lims type of tight. Make him get tight himself so you follow with an equally aggressive drive like a fullback would and then it’s all about foot work cuz you gotta place your feet from going a square up tie up to a cross tie up. Sorta like if would wanna knee trip. If you can knee trip then just finish that but they usually wanna square up again and when they do!!!! You do!!!! That’s when you cross hips almost like a head and arm but with the overhook instead!! It’s all the set up . Set the tempo!

This throw is all about timing and turning. Opponent must be positioned forward and you must turn, turn, turn; until they clear you and you are on top.

99% of athlete's offering tutorials, do so with an opponent that offers no resistance. This wrestling tutorial has an opponent, offering resistance...and the tutor out on the pressure, shows skill, strength and a far more realistic situation. This is outstanding

The thing you need to remember is he was talking about pressure and that’s very very important. Another thing is timing sometimes you are not using the timing properly and that’s why you’ll have a hard time even if you have the pressure that you need and if you can work on your timing on different take downs that’s one way to be unstoppable, my dad always taught me said you need one take down one escape and one pin over the years. I’ve learned lots I’ll tell you what…that’s all you need.

He forgot the most important part and I teach this to my son when I work throws with him. YOU MUST POST ARM OUT AS SOON AS YOU HIT THE DROP BEFORE HIS BACK HITS THE MAT!!!!!! I lost 3 of the biggest matches ever back in the 90s after I threw really good guys and would have beaten them with no time left all 3 times but I did not post arm and the rolled right through. It is very very easy to roll through with all the power hitting the mat all they have to do is roll with the momentum.

No, they are different skills. Lateral Drop uses a partial back arch and turn. Hip Toss uses a back step technique with a pivot to bring your hips through and throw your opponent over your hip. Hip Toss Example: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmislMWYZNCsYbw.html

When I do this move I'm still trying to learn to spin from falling at the moment because I'm doing it way to early. This move is good to know, it's gotten me some takedowns

So I have a funny story to share, I was showing how to do the lateral drop (Folk style), I had an interested party of 6 high school students who were watching me. The heavyweight wrestler gets up and says, "Matt, can I show you my lateral drop?" (Oh by the way, since I am an alumni I insisted that they just call me Matthew.) The heavyweight did his but crushed me in the process. I am like that's great with a muffled voice because he landed on me!
