    I'm gonna keep saying it in every forum I can: Get rid of the stone off. Have a 12 man final. Top two athletes in each heat advance, then top scoring third place athletes across all heats also advance. Stone off is too weighted in favor of some people and allows them to slack in the rest of the heats. It would also allow another, different event to take that spot in the heats and make things more interesting.

    I agree that I prefer a stone carry as a standalone event, but I like to see frame/farmers with non-standard equipment. Arnold's frame on the ramp is exciting. Brian bringing wheelbarrows back in a medley is fun to me. Having location themed equipment is usually fun too. Myrtle Beach could have you carry crab traps.

    WSM don't really concern themselves with hardcore fans. Their business model is to sell the TV rights around the world for the non SM fans who just watch once a year such as at Xmas in the UK. We may not like it not being live streamed but that's not what the organisers want. For anyone who says it's getting left behind, ask Mitch which title has changed his life the most and ask a few non SM fans and most will only have heard of WSM not the Arnold's, not Rogue etc.

    @gotzvonunentberlichingen1452

    Ай бұрын

    @@ManofLowMoralFiber, well that’s because the Arnold is right at the start of the season and you have guys like Tom Stoltman coming in completely out of shape. The only comparable event both shows had were the Austrian Oak and the log press. Brian’s logs were heavier and made out of steel, so that probably was harder than at the Arnold’s. Last years Shaw Classic had more events that pushed the athletes to their absolute brink like leg press for reps, while the Arnold has events where some athletes just get a no lift and leave the event no more fatigued than they already were, not to mention that the Shaw Classic has more events. So it’s probably a tougher competition overall. It’s heavier, it tests more strength components, it’s longer and it’s more draining.

    Heat events a bit unimaginative imo, carry could have something a bit more unique than a sandbag, and I'm not understanding this recent obsession with the stone carry, car walk is cool. WSM yet again proving they don't care about the fans regarding the stone off. The keg for height and axel are great picks, the log has become a bit of a repetitive event in comps too, so happy they went with an axel this year, so looking forward to those, conans we saw last year but it did mix up the points so that could be interesting. 2 DL events I'd swop one out for something else, an arm over arm would have been good considering there is no pull this year. Maybe just me but I'm not feeling the hype for this year's WSM.

    On the Webster stones, I feel like WSM has been a misleading name for years - it's not heavy enough to crown the strongest man, it's the World's Best Strongman contest (which personally, I prefer). For that, it's a great event. To determine who is purely the strongest, the Arnolds, Rogue or however we abbreviate Brian's one are all better anyway, so I'm glad WSM isn't trying to just do the same thing. With that perspective, I like these events. They're not just "how much can you lift" at all, they're a bit weirder, it's not a powerlifting contest, it's very "strongman" and, for me, that's great. Stone-off is still stupid though. 100% agree on all the thoughts on that one. It's an event for TV though, so if it genuinely gets all the reality TV viewers watching, perhaps their ad revenue is worth it I guess.

    I have the exact same view as Loz. Walking stones are a good test of strength and mental fortitude but they're not an event for a show, they're a one off thing

    WSM should invite Thor if they haven't already, he won't accept, but I think it shows class and good faith on their part, a way to say "hey we know things have been bad but let's move past it, you're still a champion and you earned the right to be here"

    I think your take on the stone carry is spot-on. It is a cool event with history, but it just is too awkward and too special which simply takes away from a pure strength standpoint.

    Pretty good array of events, but you should have seen me physically deflate when you guys confirmed the stone off. I knew it would be there, but the confirmation really almost kills my enthusiasm which is crazy because I love WSM. It's a sure fire way to screw anyone who isn't Tom Stoltman of any chance to podium and has cost us as fans so many opportunities to see better finals. We missed out on the opportunity to see Martins and Oleksii go head to head in 2019. We missed out on a last decent final for Big Tel, and Brian Shaw. Not to mention the people who have been injured in an event virtually no one likes or supports. A lot of times those people injured were in the 3rd spot anyway and down on points. See Obie when he tore his arm for absolutely no reason. Not to mention seeing people go through that were several points down on their heats 2nd place competitor. It's a bullshit event. As for late additions to WSM, Ab Wolders wasn't even supposed to compete in 1989, was pulled from the crowd and he ended up on the podium. Granted the sport and nature of the competition has changed over the years but we've had some great guys come in late and give us a solid performance. Sometimes it makes fans have even more support for them in the future. I know Nick Best has been a last minute guy and granted it didn't go as well for him but it was great to see. I don't think athletes should necessarily shy away from an opportunity to compete at Worlds even if it's not under the most favorable conditions.

    @petershortland478 Mitch did OK on the Arnold's UK throw. I think Tom will beat him on that though. Mitch will win the knack medley. Tom's axel is good, but Mitch's is looking insane atm. Whoever goes last on deadlift will grind out the 1 rep required to win. If Mitch goes after Tom on Conan's he will win. Tom will beat Mitch on stones, just depends on who else beats Mitch on stones. To me Atlas Stones seems to be Mitch's only "weakness" ( if you can really call it that)
