Woodchuck Deathray Strikes Again - More 243 Winchester Carnage
I have my Weatherby Vanguard .243 dialed in for the super fast 70gr Nosler Varmageddon. In this video, Garrett and I push the distance on this round and gather some great hunting footage. Special thanks to Garrett for taking time out of his vacation to come out and capture this footage. He has been working full time videoing deer hunts in Missouri for Huntline TV. Some of his work can also be found on the Heart of Hunting.

I love how when you see the vapor trail it is really flat and also pretty much as soon as you hear the gun the chuck topples! Great job!!
Years ago I used to use the 85 gr Sierra blitz softnose. 243 Remington w a 24 inch bbl..AMAZING accuracy & devastating on yotes/wolves in Alaska. Had to wait til they hit 400 yds for a 1 hole pelt saving kill. Anything closer would blow a huge exit hole. Would prob turn a woodchuck into confetti.
I remember, in the before times, going to my Uncle's dairy farm in southern Quebec and "evicting" a few Chucks. My first chuck was a center mass shot from 50 yards, silhouetted on a hill. Died so fast, he was still standing, frozen in place with no heart
'Pretty consistent hits' is an understatement, your shooting is outstanding ! Great vid gents.

My Woodchuck Deathray is an older Ruger #1 in .243 Win. with an old Tasco 6x24 scope. Using 87 Grain V-Max Hornady Custom Ammo from the box and it is a 3-round cloverleaf at 250 yards. Guess I'll have to handload and see if I can shrink my groups!

That's a pretty nice rig. I would stock up on that ammo! Hand loading is a lot of fun if you haven't got into it yet. It's a big investment of time and money. But it is very satisfying to shoot tiny groups and to take game with bullets you loaded. Thanks for watching.

@@ChuckinTV Have a Ruger M77 (first model) in 30-06 that I handloaded with one of the first Israeli powders to come over, and 165 Gn. Nosler Partition bullets. Weighed the cases, bullets, individual powder charges, hand- primed the cases, cut all cases to same length, and seated all bullets to same OAL. Went out to 100 yards and cold-barrel shot them. Three shot group was just inside of an inch. First test of that loading. Needless to say that became my pet load. Have other accurate rifles and pistols that I should handload. Just don't have the time. Do love seeing little groups from ammo that I made myself.
Great video sir.. Great shooting and great hunting.. I love the .243.. Man, that's some pretty country too where you're at.. Is that Ohio or ? Penn? I'm in southern central Indiana and we call them Groundhogs here.. 😛 I've shot out to 800 yards and hit 1/2 gallon milk jugs with colored water with my old Remington 700 BDL Varmint I used to have. I'm about to buy another rifle and probably going to get the .243 again for here to use on Groundhogs and Coyotes and fox.. I might even start reloading again. I was out of hunting for awhile because of old age and health reasons being at the tender age of 62.. Great video shooting too man! He's really good! Thank him for me! I'll check out his other video's.. You can see the bullet cutting thru the air it's so good! Very cool man.. Love it.. Thanks so much guys.. More more please!
You guys are fucken chuckin AWESOME 👌
Nice shot thanks for helping me with my 308 maybe when I get new rings you can help me again
Thats a pretty powerful round for a small animal. The good thing is they did not suffer one bit
243 is a great chuck caliber but I prefer 300 win mag with a 110gr varmageddon bullet Now that's what you call red mist💥💥💥😁
Just started watching your channel and I like it! I see you have a redfield scope, which one is it? I'm in the market for a few scopes and I do like my redfields.

Jason Driver It is a battlezone 6-18. It is discontinued and so are the revenge models. But I would recommend either one if you can find them. I do prefer the revenge 6-18 with the fine reticle. I ran that on my Tikka 300wm that is featured on a lot of our videos. Thanks for the views.

I saw that you were using them on your last video. I'm impressed with how pinpoint accurate they are at further distances. I wasn't expecting them to fly true much past 300yds. They do blow around, but on the low wind shots you can see they fly straight as an arrow.
The Howa/weatherby vanguard is the best value in rifles hands down. Quality is far better than savage or Remington in same price range.

Redfield Battlezone 6-18x44. Not bad for 200$ It tracks reliably and the glass is nice on lower powers. 18x gets a little dark and hazy. Too bad they are discontinued along with the Revenge line. Thanks for watching!

It is a Redfield Battlezone 6-18x. Philippine produced. Sadly, Redfield discontinued the Revenge and Battlezone models but you might still find them here and there. They were great scopes for the money. Optics are great up 15/16x and the tracking is reliable. Thanks for watching!

Don't worry guys it was just a tranquilizer dart. The groundhog made a full recovery.

Lovely country , u guys hunt on , with the .243 , u can definitely hunt moose if you hit on the neck , at 60 yards . All your shooting is very very precise , I happen 2 have a super heavy barrel 243 Savage mod 12 , it'd be a drawback hunting like u guys , it's too fucken heavy to carry around ! Maybe I'll get a Savage Axis medium barrel 🤔
I hand load 80 grain for several years and just decided to hand load 50 grain. Do you think it will have more damage with velocity?

Welcome. Glad to have you! Woodchucks dig massive holes in hay fields, pastures, around houses/structures. They do cause damage to equipment, livestock, and buildings because of their holes. We do a pretty good job of keeping them thinned out by shooting them. Plus shooting them is a better alternative to poison or gassing them. I would have to say this "Deathray" round is my favorite for the 243. I have many more favorites for all the other calibers I use. Thanks for watching.

I appreciate you getting back abck to. I've found myself doing mini marathons of Chuckin video watching, serious skills you got there. Just wanted to to see what you were working with any little bit of knowledge helps. I've gotta Redfield Revenge on top of a Savage. 270 and it's hard to beat for the money. I don't know if I'll ever get to shoot quite that far on a regular basis so if I can't find that Battlezone , do you have a recommendation of comparable functionality, quality and price you could help me out with?
@ChuckinTV
5 жыл бұрын
@@Mark.Hugie1 The Redfield Revenge is another scope that I shoot extended ranges with. I actually prefer my Revenge scopes over the Battlezone. They are the same glass, just different features. I would say that a Nikon with a re-settable would be my next choice in the 150-250$ price range. That's what I'd lean on as a Redfield Revenge replacement. I rely on the turrets for elevation compensation. So a scope that tracks well and has reset turrets is a must for me.
@Mark.Hugie1
5 жыл бұрын
@@ChuckinTV Yeah me and my brothers mostly hunt whitetail and hogs out here in the Carolinas and since we don't have quite that kind of wide open real estate I don't rely on turrets as much as I do holdover. I'll be starting varmint hunting this year though. I just know in order for you to be able to scalp an 8lb chuck at that distance you "GOTTA" have some "GOOD" glass and I want some of that action dude. I actually thought the Redfield Revolution took the place of the Revenge. I've been trying to find a Thompson Center Venture in .243 still laying around in some store's back stock months now (but luck) so I moved on to the Vanguard. It looks like this video just might have been the thing to cause me to go ahead and pull the trigger on that purchase. Now I'll be on a scope hunt to pair it with in that $200-250 range.

That leaves you open to some really good options. I don't have any hands on experience with this, but from what I've read I might go with a Sightron STAC 4-20x50. That is right in the budget.
