300 PRC Carnage - Christensen Arms Mesa Long Range Review/Hunts

Thanks for watching, sharing, commenting, and supporting our content.
/ chuckin
Garrett and I hunt woodchucks with the 300 PRC. Needless to say, it hits like a freight train. Garrett had some issues with the rifle back in May/June and sent it back to Christensen. He got it back and tried one of his better hand loads and this was the result. 225gr Hornady ELD 3.7" OAL, 77.5gr H1000, ADG Brass, BR-2 primer
Special thanks to ammoguyontarget.com

Love the rifle and cartridge / ballistics. Hate the idea of .30 caliber rifle with enough ME to take down Bull Moose or Elk at 1,000 yards being used on Wood Chucks. That is just an awful waste of money, ballistic energy, barrel, and of course life of cute furry harmless creatures. I am a hunter, conservationist and firearms enthusiast ... I do not see the virtue in this or how this helps nature, 2nd Amend or anything sensible? My bet is that you didn't even hit the critters but instead blasted them off the ground with your misses.

There’s a few reasons why we shoot woodchucks. Number one they are destructive varmints and we are keeping them in check. We use overkill rifles/ calibers because shooting woodchucks is a good way to practice and validate the ballistics of said rifle. Might as well do two things at once. Third we do it because it’s fun. I can explain further but the message might not reach the top of that soapbox that you’re standing on

@@ChuckinTV No soap box here. I very much appreciate your reply. I understand, and appreciate the idea of validating rifle accuracy, but you could do that with steel plates. I would be interested to know how the animals are destructive. I have only seen wood chucks a few times out here in Montana. Thanks.

Found residue build up inside barrel at 6 o-clock goes at least half length of barrel. Can't even see rifling. Serial # begins with 20 so I'm guessing made in 2020? Have they improved their barrels since? Hoping they fix it first time.

Not an expert by any means. But I have always liked CCI for the most part. Mini Mags and Velocitors have been great for chucks.Good accuracy and knockdown. So CCI is my go to. I've had some pretty good luck with Federal and Remington as well for reliability. I will say that Winchester is probably the worst.

David Greenapple depending on how you build it yes $3000 sounds right. Just sounds like he’s had multiple issues with this rifle and heard other have had the same. Your limited by what they have decided to give you vs you deciding everything you want. I went high end rifle for a while and got tired of having limited choices in what I liked about it and hated. ive been looking at buying a bolt action rifle in 300prc For the first time in my life ive been looking above the $500 price range to start out. Im thinking ill stick to my old way of thinking and just buy a cheap savage for the action and build from there. Was planning to just buy a $1500 rifle and be done but damn that price range is full of disappointment. Cheap ass savage axis out shoot and perform better than the rifles i keep seeing reviewed in that price range. A $1500 i should not have to fuck with much if anything at all in terms of being 1moa and feeding properly. wtf is going on in the firearms market. Also the 700 action is not even ok much less good. not sure why so many want to copy it when there are superior actions out there. Hell savage sucks but at least they are less than moa out of the box at any price point.

This is Eric. Not trying to sell to anyone or say one cartridge is better than another. But from what I know and what I've seen from this cartridge, I think it fills a niche that others do not. The 300 PRC is designed around the 200+ gr Hornady match bullets. The load Garrett is running is a 225gr ELD at 2850fps. So it is a high B.C 30cal bullet traveling at a respectable speed. On top of that, the velocity spreads seem to be very tight ( I can't remember exact numbers.) Plus the standard twist for 300 PRC is 1-8" to stabilize these long match bullets. If this cartridge goes more mainstream, the components and ammo will become more available and cheaper. So we will see.
