Well done, professor, as always! You just have a way of explaining and demonstrating that can't be beat. You just keep adding to your video library so that future generations can go to the card file (what?) and pull up just what they are looking for, whether to build or just be entertained. Great selection of wood for this project and a great finish seal the deal on this weeks entertainment. Great job, my friend, keep'em coming! Phil

Thanks Phil. We just got back from 3 days at Beverly Beach. A bit foggy but had a great time. Sitting around the camp fire I worked on 2 others in my head. They should top this one on coolness. If I can get it done lol. Meanwhile I did come home to a piece of Black Walnut I left with one coat of finish. Should get it done for next Friday. But I did get a bit lazy sitting around the campfire. But we did ride our mountain bikes on the beach. That wear me out! Thanks for watching! Gary

I don't know about you, Phil, but my grandchildren (already in or out of college) probably don't know what a card file is. They certainly have never stood in a phone booth etc, etc, etc.

Thank You Gary....YOU ARE ALWAYS IMPRESSIVE!!!... It looks like you have used all your techniques on this project. ... Now I am thinking "where or what will Gary do in the future? How will he take this one to the next level?, HA"... This should be interesting to see what the future holds. Also I am thinking about the time you have invested in this project and if any mistakes are made (especially at the end) along the way the whole process would come to an end & have to start from the beginning, ugh! It is a WONDERFUL turning and a BEAUTIFUL bowl Gary... TM

Thank you TM. I appreciate your kind words and yes it could all go up it pieces right at the end. I try not to think about that too much but I certainly am aware of it the closer I get to the end. Awesome he are so talented. Enjoy all your art!! Love the 3d pieces you make. Wish I could make a perfect sled with perfect adjustable angles for my table saw. Also, I see you use a bowl Gough sometimes n other times you use a negative rake scraper. I would think the scraper would be more prone to have tear out. Just my thinking. I mostly use the carbide round tips on the tools I made. Great job Buddy
@ThePapa1947
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Bob! Once you have your sled dialed in it will work perfectly. I I mostly do the turning with a bowl gouge The negative rake scraper is a very good tool for cleaning up cuts and will give you a nice finish. Where as a normal scraper can tear the wood up a lot. Thanks for watching, Gary

Thank you Richard. If you just want a serving platter of a wall hanging you can make these flat. They still look good. But a lathe will give you a lot more options. Thanks for watching, Gary
Thanks Gary! What an amazing project. In one of your future video's would you put in a shot of your dust collection system that you have at the lathe. I'm trying to find the best way to get that sanding dust before it goes all over the place. Thanks again for these great videos!!
@ThePapa1947
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Dave! I will try to show how I have it hooked up. But basically right above my lathe I have a 4" pipe going to the dust collector. I have 4" flex hose that hangs down and I can adjust behind the turning to pick up the dust as I sand. About all a dust collector is good for in turning is the dust. And it does work pretty good. But I will try and show that better. Take care, Gary

Thank you Marcia! The roasted oak is a very interesting wood. It is very light and as you can see it sort of turns to dust when cut. It cuts decently but no long shavings. And to get a nice dark wood it is reasonable in price. Thanks for watching, Gary

Good evening, Gary. This is a wonderful project and video. I like your 3D illusion bowl. The wood choices made a great looking bowl. Recently I made one of your bowl from a board projects. On the back side I hot glued thin strips of woods. Then when you cut through the board the strips of woods hold the ring in place. Repeat for the next ring. Thanks for the interesting projects. I hit the like button.
