Thank you Jon! I realize that many wonder at what speed they should be turning. You will catch on to it the more you turn. If you think surface feet of material passing by your cutting tool that will help. If turning the inside of a bowl and working toward the center you will it is not cutting as good as it was out toward the wall. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching, Gary

Recently had a big ol black locust fall and now I have more than I know what to do with. So far it's been great aside from it wanting to crack a lot more than most of the other stuff I get.... Which is weird because it is a bear to split, usually ease of cracking and splitting go hand in hand but not with this stuff haha

I am new to turning and trying to learn as much as I can from the videos I watch. I agree with you about Phil Anderson's trick for removing that nub on the tenon! It's a really easy, cool way to make it look nice and it's easy! AND! Ack's Abrasive Paste and Polish is made about 1/2 hr. south of where I live...I've finally tried it and I love the stuff! Thank you for your videos and I'm looking forward to watching the next one!

Thank you Lori! Phil's trick is pretty cool but there I times I stop or just do not do it depending on how delicate the piece is. Not Phil though he has it down and very seldom does not take it all the way off. For sure the Ack's products do a fine job. Thanks for watching, Gary

I worked in my uncles woodturning shop for years learning the trade. Most of his production was spindle type work and furniture manufacturing components. I have been intrigued with you information on star and you 3D effects glue up for segments. Will try and catch more of your videos. Look forward to seeing them. Thank you

Zinser SealCoat is an excellent finish, as good as flake shellac that is available these days. I've used it on several guitars using a french polish technique with a pad & oil. I also hollow-out vessels with the lathe running in reverse (using a chuck with a lock screw!). It's easier to see and I don't need to bend over the lathe with my arm crooked.

Very nice bowl. I do it in one step using a faceplate. I put glue on the side of the piece I am turning, glue on a scrap piece of wood and clamp them together with a piece of paper between the two blocks of wood, The next day I use wood screws to screw the end of the scrap piece to a faceplate. I do the whole process in one step. When it's finished, I just put a thin blade at the paper joint, tap it and the bowl pops right off. The glue joint it quite strong, but the wedging action of the blade at the glue joint pops the paper apart without taking wood grain with it. All that's left is a light sanding and finish on the flat bottom.

Thank you Richard, I first learned the paper trick in grade school in 1961 shop class. I used it for a long time. Now if I want something to not have to turn off I will use a hot glue gun to fasten a tenon to the bottom of the bowl and it comes off very easy using a little denatured alcohol. Matter of fact that is what I am using on my next video. I have used the paper joints when doing inside out turnings though. Thanks for watching, Gary

Thanks so much Bartman, Black Locust is one of my favorites to turn. I am getting low so I like to make it last. But a few years ago I scored a nice load less than 1/4 mile from me. I used to look at the tree when driving by then one day it was on the ground all cut up. It was on it's way to become firewood but they let me take a lot of it. Have fun turning yours and thanks for watching, Gary
