    You showed the Temps halfway through and made me super jealous!!! I'm sitting here in 3 layers trying to keep warm from the 5*F (-18 with windchill)... that 43* F looks glorious right now, even if there is still snow. xD Stay safe and keep warm out there Chad. I honestly don't blame you for wearing actual clothes and boots out there. While it might not be "primitive" it sure is intelligent "survival"... in my opinion I wouldn't care if there were a few winter episodes where you don some actual clothes for your safety, it wouldn't distract from the survival skills aspect of your show. Basically, good job being smart as far too many times have I seen people try to "keep up appearances" and end up getting hurt in the long run. So kudos!

    👍👍👍👍👍Andy did his Trial of the Trader's Basket on the Trail/Trade Route (aka: route to Chad's) and Chad hosted. You guys made a really chilly couple of days "roughing-it" look like just another normal day. You both clearly knew what you were doing and how to do it. I really appreciate that. No exaggerated drama over how cold it was, even though IT WAS COLD. But on second thought maybe Chad edited out some really silly stuff. Merry Christmas everyone.

  • @ChadZuberAdventures

    @ChadZuberAdventures

    Жыл бұрын

    There was no silly stuff. I was genuinely concerned about the wet wood. I only edited out some dialogue that was just too long. These are just some of the realities of the primitive lifestyle. Preparation for the unexpected is very important. The problem is that shooting video takes time and reduces the amount of time available for important tasks.

And then poor Andy getting trapped by the weather. It must have been horrible for you and Andy, Chad, but I really enjoyed watching it. • @ChadZuberAdventures

    I really don't think that I put my health at risk when I go cold. Two years ago I tested what it was like to be in just sandals and a loincloth in the snow. I spent more than an hour hiking in snow that was almost one foot deep and I only wore a loincloth and sandals. Eventually my entire feet were numb. I couldn't feel anything below my shins. When I returned to a warmer place and put on shoes the feeling very slowly began returning but it took at least a week for my feet to feel normal again. I like to do these tests so I can know my limits. I believe that it also makes the body more resistant to cold. I know that there is danger and I am aware of that but I am also so curious to know my limits.

    It was nice to see that your guest Andy enjoyed the taste of your butter and maple syrup mashed acorns. And that, Andy will -as he promised to do so- one day show you where to harvest the sweet acorns that are located south of Scottsdale, AZ ... so that you can eliminate the process of having to leach- out/remove the bitterness from acorns that you are now accustomed to. And lastly, it was good to see that both of you had used the large boulder -at the top of a hill/mountain- to get warm. Good strategy to getting warm! 👍

    Dear Chad Zuber. Happy new year. 👍👌👏 Great video with a great guest (of course the host is great too). 😁 ;-) Although it's a bit broken at the rim, the gifted decorated ceramic pot looks really, really good. Please kindly allow me a suggestion: Maybe a very good cleaned, scraped and dried (mounted on a frame) pig bladder can be a kind of window glass substitute? It would not insulate a lot and the light going through is diffuse. But at least no wind would go through but a bit daylight so that the door could be closed even during the day. I've seen that windows with pig bladder and/or pergament had been used in ancient castles and houses. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular.

But to reflect heat out into the room you can make them from flat stone or polished clay if using stone be aware that some volcanic stone explodes but do your research to find the right flat stone for a baffle/heat reflection plat kind regard and thank you for a really excellent production 😊

    Hi Chad, Loved the video. Even with company you got some beautiful area footage, appreciated. Here too, desert freeze...17F!!! I'd say a place to keep dry wood, but, who would figure...rain and snow!!! I was wondering what you were gonna feed Andy, nice...and packed in syrup...yummm. Bet the hot meal felt good on such a cold day :-) Did I see tile on some of the floor??? Beauty job. I've noticed a lot of " off grid" folk, settle near natural resources....however after a time they need to go farther and farther to find "supplies". Cold winter is a good time to "distance" collect supplies, roof bark. Walking and working keeps ya warm, lol You need to make you a basket like Andy had. Collect as you walk in, changing routes to find more bark. Take care till next time, Merry Christmas or whatever, and a Happy New Year. :-)

    Thank you and Merry Christmas!... Yeah, I've got a good supply of acorns to last a while. They are really a great food. Butter and syrup just makes for a great acorn mush meal.... Yeah, I placed the clay tiles on the floor to test them out. It helps so much to keep down the dust and it looks so much nicer.... I still have lots of wood resources near the hut. People don't realize how much dead wood there is in this immediate area. There is so much and it will last a long time however I do enjoy taking longer walks to collect wood and preserve the nearby resources.... I do want to make a big burden basket like Andy has. I haven't had much time to do these things because I spend so many hours every day on the computer working on my KZread channel but I'm going to make some changes and hopefully have time to do more primitive skills.

    @@ChadZuberAdventures Hi Chad, thanx for the reply. Loved the smoothness of the tiles as well as the color, nice job :-) I saw a mat, a nice one. Tiles in summer will help keep it cool, but, in winter, I put down rugs, perhaps a few mats?? But, such beauty tiles, nice job. In my desert there is lots of wood, wouldn't think so but. How far to the next roof bark? We, your watchers, appreciate the time it takes to edit a video. And you always include really nice landscape and sky shots, framed well too. How about teaching a computer crazed, camping type kid to edit for you, lol. Or a college kid that can use it as an extra project? lol Anywayyyyyyyyy, take care till next time. Look forward to your videos. Happy New year coming up too:-)

    Considering the arctic blast cold we are having here in MO for the next couple of days,....how low a temperature do you think is still survivable at the hut if you have adequate wood to keep the fire going all the time?

  • @ChadZuberAdventures

    @ChadZuberAdventures

    Жыл бұрын

    I cannot even guess at that. I do know that if I burn the fire for five hours it gets nice and cozy inside when the temperature outside is in the 20's. I don't know what it would be like though at colder temperatures.

    From the time I watched you build the fireplace and then the rest of the hut I always wondered why you didn't make the bench as long as you are tall, so you could sleep on it on winter nights.

    I think I did it this way because I didn't want a bed taking up so much space in here but now I think that I could have made it work. Maybe I will do that on the next hut I build.
