If the under bed damp issues persist, might be worth fitting a 12v PC fan on a small solar panel to circulate fresh air? They only draw single figure watttage, so would only need a tiny panel.

The wild garlic I think you're speaking of in the U.S is called RAMPS, it actually a leek that grows wild that tastes like onion and garlic. I have two ramp patches here in western North Carolina, one at my house and one at my Moms, both are under red oak trees on a north face. The name they are usually referred to here are Appalachian mountain leeks. Western Carolina University has done a lot of studies on them, I just don't know if they post that info online. Hopefully one day you can taste "ramps and taters" for yourself, Thanks for the great videos.

Clove oil guys…. I lived in the tropics in Australia it’s the only known product that kills the spores and turns it to dust ….less is more as it is potent mix a small amount of clove oil - just a quarter of a teaspoon - with a litre of water in a spray bottle. Then spritz the solution onto the mould, leave it to work its magic for a minimum of 10 minutes (and up to a few hours), then use a wet cloth to wipe away the mould or you can actually leave a small container with pure oils or a make up pad with some drops and for a few days and if new growth starts the process should happen….. Just don’t put pure on any surfaces…and it’s eco , no chemicals 🙌🙌which I thought u would like 😀

Mold and mildew is a constant for a live-aboard, especially in winter. There are commercial cleaners, not inexpensive . You can make your own with this formula with the added advantage being that it does not have a strong smell and it restricts the re-growth of the mold. Spray it on and wipe it off. To I litre of warm water, add 30ml baking soda, 30 ml of Borax, and 15 ml of TSP. Formula courtesy of Practical Sailor magazine. Good luck, and stay warm.

The Lovely Bride just made some Orange Marmalade. Said it was too sweet for her, and she will have to tweak it. I’ve canned Spaghetti Sauce, baked beans, stew beef in a burgundy wine sauce and separately, the veg in spring water, so that combined with a gravy mix, had stew (pretty good). It’s something I enjoy doing.

Just a tip for you too if you get chlorine crystals like for the lazy spa from B&Q or somewhere like that to spoonful edition to drop a Wall or will kill mould permanently. It smells a bit like a swimming pool, but it goes away quite quickly and you haven’t got the trouble of mould. The spores from the mould can cause respiratory problems.

I recommend Simple Living Alaska, The Hollar Homestead, The seasonal homestead and Little Mountain Ranch. All from the USA but fascinating. My favourite is Simple Living Alaska- great content. I can fruits, veg, soups, meat, fish, ready meals like spag bol, pickles, chutneys etc. Got enough of the 19p bags of veg at Christmas to cn enough soup for the year at a really cheap cost!

I have to agree I do too. I go in with a shopping list and come out and I'm always shocked how expensive it is...

I've heard a few people talk about the dangers of the Southall/Hayes area! Me and my partner are new to boating and are currently in West Drayton, moving east into London. We're doing our boat up and not currently living on board, should we be worried about leaving her overnight once we get past West Drayton? It seems pretty nice where we're moored currently.

Hey, yeah we’ve recently moved north from a week in West Drayton & felt fine there! Personally the next stop heading east would be past High Line Yachting Northolt, we stayed a bit further on by Greenford Quay, as you come through on the right hand side you’ll see some boats moored on some fairly newly installed rings, we stayed there on a few occasions now & it’s walking distance to a Lidl & M&S etc (there’s also a water tap just before this on the right outside an abandoned pub), after that Horsenden is great, we found Alperton okay as well, the new bins by Harlesden we’ve stayed there too that’s fine, as long as there’s other boats around you should be fine really, then from probably the Sainsbury’s at Kensal Green it’ll start getting busier and more likely double mooring etc but we got lucky a few times and found spaces by maida hill, Westbourne Park area, spent a lot of time there with no trouble! Give us a shout if you want any more tips in detail! danniandjoetravel@gmail.com

@@DanniandJoe hello! Thank you so much for this amazing and detailed advice!! That’s really good to know about Northolt, we will definitely head there next. And it’s helpful to know there are more good spots immediately after that! We’re in a 10ft widebeam so won’t be able to do any double mooring so fingers crossed we get lucky once it’s starts getting busier as we get more central. Thank you so much again!! Best of luck with your journey north!
