You *could* go all the way up to 3.10 on a 286, Windows for Workgroups does require a 386 though.

You can run Windows 3.1 on a 286 but only in Standard Mode, not Enhanced mode. Nice machine and good to see it in such good condition.

Underrated channel

I remember Windows 2.0 on a 286 but didn't get Windows 3.1 until I had a 386DX machine.

3.1 works great on my 286

As much as I am for restoring these, as you said, it’s yours not mine, and besides, it’s f*cking gorgeous!

You can install Windows 3.0 this is much better an if you have more than 640 K of ram it works well on a 286 I have it on my 286 PC bu i have only 640 K of ram so windows runns only in Real-Mode ;) and i have the Original 20 MB MFM HDD

The 286/12 PCs were faster than the 386/16 PCs.

Is not an any achievement. At 286 run smoothly the Windows 3.11. I Have this Windows on my olivetti 286 20mhz.

Windows 3.0 will run on a 286. I know because I've owned a 286/12 AT & 286/20 NEAT PC running Windows 3.0. I don't know about being able to run Windows 3.0 on 286/6 & 286/8 PCs though, as I have never attempted to, yet.

Sweet machine. I'm on the lookout for a 286 or a 386. Will find one someday!

I had a whole room full of old machines, that "disappeared" after we moved... pretty sure the exwife threw them all out. I'm done being mad but I sure would like to have those Mac Classics and IBM PS/1... worth a decent amount on ebay these days.

I like the painting solution to discolouration. The "retrobrite" craze is a bit out of control. Pretty impressive how so many people are convinced that fixing something caused by oxidization by immersing it in a strong oxidizer and forcibly catalyzing oxidization is a good idea...

The 286 we used to have came with Windows 3.0, so 3.0 will work on a 286. 3.1 may still work, though that's a stretch. WFW 3.11 may indeed not work and require a minimum 386.
