Pristine work there mate and the components are straighter than the original oem a4K's! I know first-hand how restrictive ocd can be with it's perfectionist attributes, but in this line of work (building/repairing/restoring electronics), you will shine brighter than the others, man. Thanks for posting this good stuff :)

kudos to you sir for having the patience to do all that SMT soldering by hand ! I thankfully still have my original A4000 working fine today except for no sound issue and I’m dreading taking her apart to investigate audio caps etc but man just thinking of tackling soldering the entire board components is on a way other level lol

I did you make the ic's too? My brother threw out my amiga 3000 and 1000 while I was caring for my dying mother... almost made me cry as much as losing her. Probably just added to the grief I was feeling.

Thats one sexy motherboard. I would have chosen a Amiga4000 plexiglass case for this, so everyone can see inside this beauty. Or maybe even a A4000T plexi case.

It seems like this would be much MORE than buying an original Amiga 4000. Buying all the chips, case, power supply and other components, not to mention the time and madness troubleshooting faulty installs / parts.

For surfacing mounting the best was is to use some wick and put some solder on the pads then using a hot air gun heat up the area and put the socket on without putting the gun near it.

to save suffering in future surface mount soldering jobs, for things with a lot of pins, use tape.

I admire your skill. I cannot solder, let alone surface mount components. I acquired an Acill A4000 board from Acill directly recently, and currently waiting on Simon's custom sheetmetal A4K case for it. Really cool Amiga possibilities these days.

I saw someone knocking around on ebay a while back, they seem to have all vanished. I feel getting the PCB is the easy part, sourcing known good working custom chips might be more of a pain.

You need solder paste. Apply it to the pads, place components, and stick in oven at reflow temps. Alternatively you can use an iron or air reflow station to melt the paste.

@Daniel Moreira for these kind of projects, it's better and more fun to use a cheap heat soldering gun from Ali express. Costs about $35 delivered. Soldering paste is also available on Ali Express. You will definitely have more fun soldering, without having to break sockets.

To do a good jon with solder paste you really need stencils to get the paste uniform. Soldering by hand like this actually works very well.

Great work! I too have the same logic board and have started soldering components to it. I used my original A4000 logic board to find what goes where. Do you have a components list for the board, or did you just use the schematics? If you have the components list, could you share that with me? Be quicker than going through the schematics, and would not need to keep opening my A4000 to find where components go. Great video’s! Very enjoyable to watch.👌
