In this video, Dr. Berg talks about bulletproof coffee and autophagy. Autophagy is a state when you are in fasting mode and the body starts repairing and recycling the damaged proteins and microbes in the body and also the need for vitamins and nutrients go way down.
Things that Stop Autophagy:
• Glucose
• Protein
• Cortisol
• Eating
*Fat has the last effect on insulin.
To get into autophagy really depends on several things:
1. Amount of calories
2. Health State (the worst your health is, the more strict that you need to be with these things).
3. Exercise
4. How long you been fasting
5. Insulin
GIP - a hormone factor that is located in the small intestine that gets triggered when you eat so it amplifies the effect of insulin.

When I think of BP Coffee one thing comes to mind 'Somatostatin' (growth hormone-inhibiting hormone). Fat has 9 calories/gram and if you do BP coffee your body tends to pass into a fed state, partially breaking a fast and inhibiting Growth Hormone leading to a decreased autophagy state. I view BP Coffee as a tool for people getting used to fasting and getting that extra energy when you break your fast with it. I used it when I first started fasting to get used to the feeling of not eating then a few months down the line removed it in favor of plain black coffee.

Now..... if only you could learn to be more humble......... JUST KIDDING - Fantastic............. and you have learned that we eat, not because we are hungry, but based on a time schedule, and out of boredom, etc. I was slender already, and only ate whole foods - NO junk food, and was VEGAN / seafood eater, but tried the KETO diet starting in March 2021, just because of the way it is portrayed by Dr Berg, and Dr Ekberg here on KZread. I found out, that I feel better, have more energy, and my mental acuity is better. WIN WIN. Now instead of A HEAVY CARB diet;,,,,,,,, I'm eating fats: lots of fats. ORGANIC fats, of course. I also go about 20/4 per-day........ or at least 18/6 each day.

Dr. Berg, I started swimming at the beginning of this warm season as a form of routine exercise. Your statement at the end of this video about combining sun, fasting, and exercise, made me realize that I have almost all of the right ingredients for autophagy and a healthy body. I'm a 37 year old female looking to increase my focus on a better diet and for the last 3 to 4 years have been experimenting with extended fasting and IF protocols. I actually didn't even know that I was intermittent fasting at first. I was just in the habit of eating once a day... And this was before I really began to focus so much of my effort on having a healthier lifestyle. When I finally made that decision, I was already ahead of the curve. Our 8 year boy was diagnosed with brain cancer 2 years ago. It completely derailed my health efforts, and surely increased my cortisol levels. ( I know that now, thanks to watching your content and lessons) I have been trying to convince my girlfriend, the mother of our 8 year old boy, to put him on a strict and clean keto diet. By the way, he was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, and he is "free and clear" of it for now. But I'm terrified that if his diet doesn't change, his health could easily regress. My question to you, since we already know that a clean, and nutritional ketogenic diet would be best for him, is, should we also have this 8 year old boy do any fasting? Thank you, so much, for creating these helpful and incredibly informative videos!

Telum-X your story really touched me. What a traumatic experience for your family. How is your son doing now? I immediately looked up children and fasting but 'they' seem to advise against it. But knowing the advantages of fasting and as long as my child was not underweight I think my decision would have been to do a less restrictive form of fasting + a clean diet. I really hope he's doing okay now? Lots of love from Cape Town xx

Reminds me of the time i did a recommended fast. It was a 10 day fast in which one could consume the following only: Distilled water, preferably double distilled, all of the following - Lemon water, beet juice, celery juice and green drinks. On the 7th day i stood up and took a few steps and Bingo. Ill of my pain was gone, any stiffness and inflammation was gone and my mind was much clearer considering i have the privilege of having a bad dose of ADD. When i walked my knees were so free that my knees kept rising to my hip level and it took until the third day to learn how to walk normal again. All was fine till about the 8-10 day mark and I reverted back to my old self about a week later. No health professional i have talked to since has any idea as to what happened during this brief time. Also, i was 95% + at the time doing the vegetarian thing as in no dead meat/eggs. I just did the same fast recently, although I am not a vegetarian and blew it on day seven with little results. I was prepared to go as long as 12 days - but, but but. I shall keep on truckin

I recently have started OMAD, restricting carbs/sugars and having more proteins/fats. My eating window is 6PM-7PM. I am naturally slim (always have been and I am 51Yo) but since cutting added sugars almost completely and being on Keto diet I have noticed feeling much happier and having a lot more energy throughout the day. And I enjoy more the exercise than before.

That was great, very informative. Im curious about clear veggie/herb/spice bouillons interfering with autophogy. Ive heard that the body needs to be stressed in order to initiate autophogy so adding nutrition doesnt work. Do the calories & macros transfer into the liquid? Im doing anticancer herbs & spice bouillons such as onion, garlic, mushroom, broccoli sprouts, etc and hoping its not ruining the autophogy. Am trying to shrink a cyst/tumor with alternate fasting + keto. Oh, and also what about lemon & acv? Also oil based supplements such as vit D & oil of oregano? ???

Exactly what I was wondering about. I normally take my coffee black but the little bit of butter I just added a couple of days ago makes OMAD very much easier. NOT exercising though and I do have insulin resistance. Guess maybe I should go back to salt and water to alleviate the headaches when I do get into autophagy. It's REALLY working though And if course I'm so very grateful Dr Berg cause I was at a standstill with keto until I started following you. You're amazing ❤️

I've been "cheating" with keto fasts for a few years. I also reduced butter to 1 tbsp instead of 2 per cup. I like to have about 3-4 a day so i also reduced my coffee to 1/2 teaspoon per cup.

I usually caffeine rush and caffeine headaches when I drink coffee. I also can't handle the bitter taste but I need coffee because my schedule starts early due to kids and work. But, this coffee was so amazing. I drink it for 3 mornings now, I noticed I don't have that caffeine headaches, no caffeine spasm out, no bitterness, and it doesn't hurt my stomach. I did feel the coffee waking me up fast but it's different than before. Normally when I feel it work thus fast, I shake a little with a headache, but not this time. I am so happy with this coffee. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!

Honestly, I have no clue if I am being consistent because testing my ketones every morning was becoming compulsive; and much prefer to be moderate my thinking in all areas. So I stopped the morning sticks it was getting depressing No ketone burning and now only use my measuring tape and step on the grocery store scale on shopping day once every week. Also, I found that I used to drink a whole pot of coffee (by myself to get going) and now I drink only 3 cups in the Am and 1 cup after Lunch (still a lot). I put into cups 1 & 2 just 1 tsp butter, a pinch of salt and 1/2 & 1/2 in each; and #3 cup of the Am gets Coconut oil, salt and 1/2 & 1/2 and My after lunch cup gets 1 tsp of butter etc that way I am staying on just about 2 Tbls of butter/oil and wow do I have energy and get so much more done. I have lost about 6 pounds and a couple of inches and feel great since adding and stopped using sweetener in my coffee. Coffee needs salt and the taste is so delicious. I also noticed less joint pain and not getting up in the middle of the night to use the toilet so sleeping better. I turn 54 next month and am excited about life again. Amazing!
