These along with the "what move would you play" divided by rating levels are my absolute favorites! Thank you, Nelson!
For the 12:03 the Queen trade also comes with a knight check forcing the king to move again.
Can I just say I'm loving this kinds of videos?? Super thrilling, covering some basics and at the same time throwing so difficult puzzles for us that some of them just fly past me like a jet

Great presentation; thank you for sharing.
Nice tactics series! Waiting for the next one.
These were great, thank you! I admit that I am still very lazy in calculating tactical variations, and it has for a long time stopped me from improving as a player. Being able to calculate what-if scenarios is very pleasing, because what superficially looks like a good move, may actually be step into mate network, like in the last example. I would say that also on my level the precision and concentration are keys to winning: we all make blunders, but the point is, how to avoid the most fatal of them.
Nelson i just wanna thank you for teaching me alot of chess and also your content is so addicting with fun puzzles and amazing chess lesson that is not boring my fav is 2 bishop checkmate n 1 knight and bishop checkmate
Really liked this video. To have more like this you could have promoted this in a three part series. Thanks for sharing.
These puzzles are very fascinating, especially the last one is very cool.
Great video as always! Although something that I recommended showing as well is how to defend against the skewer tactic (or if you keep on making similar videos like this whatever tactic you are teaching). It is also very important to use such tactics when you are losing and aiming for a draw, or when you are winning, but your opponent can easily take the win from you with the same tactic. Just a little tip for future videos!
This is a great video. Nelson Lopez is teaching us amateurs more than we can learn from masters and GMs, because--well, because he is a better teacher.
Yeah, this is some really good content. Cheers mate, keep up the good work!

This is the best stuff on youtube for me right now.🔥 Regarding this video, my chess career has basically only consisted of lichess puzzles, and i think this strategy is used a lot and thats why i think i did quite well in these puzzles, but other parts of my game definetely slack😅😂 ALSO i gotta say its so cool that you also happened to be Christian (im from Finland and we believers are getting fewer and fewer..), its nice to have this vibe in these videos like a dude with same values explaining chess stuff to me 😍🏆
5:52 Queen pieces to e2 or to G6 is also an multi doubled an option selections to Made a interesting checkmate
The master puzzle was the easiest and most obvious I thought; although it did require a few moves which I hadn't immediately calculated. But overall I enjoyed the instruction, thanks
9:50 in the line Kf5 Q:c7 white has perpetual check with Qg6 and Qe8. Best line after Kf5 is g6+, Kf6 Qf4+, Ke7 Q:c7+, winning the pawn and the endgame. The same variation must be considered at 10:10
I really like these videos
Thank you your course for helping me reach the milestone 1500, before taking the course, I was 1400 and in 9 months, my rating just fluctuate around that rating. But after taking the course, i can reach 1500 within 1.5 months. Once again, thanks a lot and i will keep enjoying your amazing videos
At 4:19, it's important that the Q cannot retreat and simultaneously guard the bishop, or W has lost the exchange. Since Q is on different color as B, she cannot retreat diagonally and guard the B.
5:50 Qg6# is also checkmate.

Thanks for these instructional videos Nelson. I like this format where you start with the principle, give simple examples, and gradually ramp up to more difficult puzzles that have extra elements of how to find and create the tactics you're teaching. You really do have a talent for breaking down concepts like this. And for anyone sleeping on the courses, let me just say that his 1000-15000 strategic thinking course is aces, and well worth the modest price. Looking forward to diving into the King's Indian one next.
At 3:52 we could move bishop blocking rook and no matter what rook does it will die but if it takes bishop it’s 14 points to white and 16 points to black
in the position at 9:30 it's important that you also go through a different line after you play Qxh2+, Qh3 g5+ Kg4 h5+ wins the queen by deflecting the king. What's also important is when you capture the queen that you control c8 so white can't get another one. Edit: the line I shared doesn't work, h5+ is refuted by Qxh5+

@Кирило Нейчев you're right my bad. Another commenter wrote Qh3, g5+ Kg4, Qxe2+ Kf5, Qe4+ Kf6, Qc6+ Qe6, Qxc7 which avoids that problem and ends with a fork rather than skewer Just shows how important this Qh3 move is to talk about, but it was just ignored

Glad you like them!
Nuance: At the outset, he said the difference between a skewer and a pin is which opponent's piece is more valuable, then he showed us a problem where you "skewer' the K to pick up just a pawn...but note that the pawn is on the 7th rank, so it is a Q if you don't take it.
5:49 Queen to G6 is also checkmate.
Amazing video.
9:32 White can block with a queen. However, you follow it up with g5 check. Then the king is forced to move to g4. Otherwise, white will lose the queen and the game will be much easier for black After that we have Queen takes e2 check. Which makes a passed pawn that is dangerous. Then the king moves to f5. Now we have Queen to e4 check. Which is defended by the knight. The king now moves to f6. Finally, the Queen moves to c6 check. Which forks the king and pawn. You can block the check with the queen, or move the king to get out of check. But no matter what move white makes, the pawn on c7 is taken and you will have the advantage over the game. You have that passed pawn and an extra knight. You'll either win, lose or draw, depending on how well you play. I don't use engines if people found a move that derails the main line.
i wish to have { middle game tactics/plans } in the next video
9:07 - I have to repeat that multiple times! I often lose games like that without seeing simple endgame tactics. Yes, I solve puzzles often and recently started doing better again, but the question is not if to look for them, but how to stay alert on them even in the endgame! I have this problem that at some point my brain switches off from looking for tactics, especially when it comes to moves from my opponent. Only exercising positions like this can help about it.

Focus on problems called "studies". They are more likely to have positions that could show up in a game.
I'm curious about an option for the puzzle at 3:32; what if white just moves their king? What would white's best play be in that situation. My first thought was Rxh2, offering a trade but I feel like that's far from the best option. Either you lose a bishop & both rooks, or just a bishop is how it is as far as I understand it.
Thank you so much! You helped me get 4/5 points in my chess tournament just today in dec 26! You helped me get 2nd place! Thank you so much for your help and God bless you! I am a Christian as well. Congratulations and (unforgivably late) happy new year!
But in the first difficult puzzle you could have moved pawn to e4 and the if pawn takes you could have moved bishop to f4 and then took the quuen
10:11 I was searching for so long for a skewer on the queen I thought I was going mad
9:43 the King can also go to f5
Couldn't you trap the rock in the early quee. Sac by putting the. I shop on the back rank, and black would have to sac the exchange and only have a bishop and rook against the queen
I just saw the ultimes pin two rooks a queen a pawn and a knight
For the puzzle on 9:10, I stared at it for about 10 minutes and didn't like Qxh2+ because I saw white has the move Qh3 and I didn't see how to continue from there as there is a few more checks but I don't know how the promotion gets stopped.
Im only 1000 rated BUT at 10:45 if black queen checks king (by taking pawn on h2) and white responds with queen trade option (white queen to h3). Won't the whitte pawn on c7 still promote
I do use this a lot in end games, it’s so important to nick your opponent’s best pieces
Whoo! I finally made it early. No cap, saw this less than half an hour after it was posted.
I am a mediocre player who won't ever be a grandmaster thinking five moves ahead or memorizing whole games. What I got out of this is just keep putting your opponents king in check several times and maybe a skewer opportunity could arise. I think too defensively to be great at chess. I think of chess like a war of attrition. I want to develop a strong simple defensive formation then grind down the opponent in a mincing process.
4:50 isn't BxP also good? More of a pin than a skewer but still takes the R.
How did i get the last one but not some of the easier ones... Does that make me a master?
I want the video the that is puzzles but you show us ways that black and white can win
How about to block da check with queen in skewer where pass pawn dies,
On 4:14 if bishop goes to e6 its not a lose🫡
And then he sacrifices THE ROOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hold on, at 9:54, if Kxh5 Qxc7, doesn't black have a perpetual with Qg6+ and Qe8+?
*Around **4:30**, wouldn't taking the pawn with the bishop be a good move? If he takes back, his rook gets captured*
10:05 i think the queen can go to E3 and skewer the king and the queen am i right??
what if white blocked with the queen
At 4:36, can't Bishop takes pawn on f4 be played?
9:30 couldn't the queen block the check (Qh3). and white is still queening, if g5+ then the king slides over to g4, and if h5+ then Qxh5 and white doesn't really have a followup?

I got 4/5
2:33 the queen is literally trapped unless they want to trade

No it big blunder, because race horde pawn to g5 first forcing king have one option only left to protect queen in g4 square(if not to h6 and get checkmate by black queen take the white queen Will checkmate#) and after king to g4 white square we have the move queen to take the pawn in e3 with check and then forcing the king to move in F3 white square and checking the king again in e4 square with check again(supported by knight) then it's still the same to fork between the king and the pawn with a trick(not trading the queen),That is queen to c6 check the queen and attacking the pawn after the king was gone to up square (of down square it a problem a queen have a free continue check after take the pawn and white have biggest trouble position or move the black queen was take the pawn, when the point' it not to trading the queen first and Prioritize neutralizing threats from promoting c7 to c8 pawns to become a queen (keeping the checking continue)
10:46 why the queen cant Block the check?
At 9:45, why can't the king move to f5?
3:51 Doesn't Bd1 trap Black's rook?

I came here for that... after black Ra1 takes then Bd1 and black rook is toast, even if black tries to defend it: Bd1 Bc6, Qb2 Ba4, Ba4+ Nd7, Qa1 black rook is gone... so that's a queen for a rook and two bishops if black doesn't defend its rook or one rook and one bishop if black makes the mistake to defend the rook... (Queen for 1 rook + 2 bishops + causing double isolated pawns still worth it though.. )
