not pictured: the 10 moves you need to do to assemble the gun
@danielyuan9862

Of course. You only do this at the proper time. Like if it's a mostly closed position and one open file.
@scoutbane1651

Its like 5-10 moves to assemble the gun fully, but also most of the moves you should be making anyway. Moving rook to open file, doubling rooks, this is all useful and something you should be doing regardless of assembling the gun. So its just a nice bonus in some positions.

Wow, I got the solution to 3:50 right, but didn’t see that it was actually checkmate, because I completely missed how the g pawn prevents the king from escaping, so I prematurely discarded the idea.
used this several times. creates a mess and can overload a piece or 2 by forcing them to defend everything. also has a piece being attacked by a zillion other pieces which can be fun to do
12:14 I thought the winning move was qg4 then nc5 since qg4 blocks the check while maintaining eyes on the rook on e2
appreciate the "combination" exercises
wow I never thought chess was so violent, they have a gun made by Alexander Alekhine!

With the last one, what is the problem with the very quiet d5? If cxd5, Rxd5 attacks the white queen. They can either respond with Rxe4 to attack black's queen or slide their queen back and dedicate themselves to a 3-piece battery (with the queen in front) or their b1-h7 diagonal. They can also do Qxe4 which, again, sacrifices their advantage with rook back (Re5). If Qxd5, it's a major blunder of a queen. If Rxe4 ignoring the pawn, you end up +2 in material after Rxe4 Rxe4 Qxe4 Qxe4 Rxe4
Nice video Nelson
Please make a video on the Sicilian Kan
5:33. I saw this move, but I didn't notice it was a check until a bit later. My thought proces was that black captures out rook, then Qxa8+ and we win the rook on d7, until i noticed that black rook cant capture Us, because Qd5 is a check.
9:04 I'm not sure that strengthening a battery could be considered a "quiet" move! 10:57 Double threats of ANY kind are powerful moves.
@ABadGamble

Maybe not quiet but "suppressed" lol
Hello, I found your video amazing and very helpful, but for the second advanced puzzle, what about, after Queen g7, white play Queen g4, then black knight take Queen g4 and make check, then pawn f3 take the knight, and from here, what the black can do to still be dominant ? Thank you very much for your answers. I'm still a beginner therefore sorry if my question looks silly.

@ 1:19 Solution should be stated as "Rook 'f' to d6" , because Rook d may go to d6, also.
I'm around 2000, got all of them in under 10 seconds! For the Master one, I was considering ...Nf2 before ...Nc5 but it doesn't work.

I'm 1900ish and it just feels the same, solved them all in under 3 seconds (including the master one) and thought of more lines than Nelson himself. Tbh how can one even take more than 5 secs on these
in the last one you missed interesting white's response 2. Qd5 so the line could be 1. ... Nc5 2. Qd5 Qxd5+! (2. ... Rxd5? 3. Rxe6) 3. cxd5 Rxe2+ we win a rook.
5:55 1. Re8 Rxe8 2. Qxd4 R1xd4 3. Kxe8 7:31 1. Qxf7 Rxf7 2. R2xf7 Qxf1 3. Rxf1 9:32 1. Kh1 Rxg2 2. Qe6 Rxg1 3. Qxg8+ Qxg8 4. Rxg8+ Kxg8 10:53 1. Qd4 Re4 2. Qxc5 Re5 3. Qd4 Re4 4. Qd3 Re3 5. Qg6+ Qxg6 6. Rxe5 Rxe5 7. Rxe5 Qg7 8. Re8+ Qf7
In min. 9:50 Rxg1 is check-mate. Rxg1 if Rxg1 Qxg1 is check-mate If Kh2, Qg2 is check-mate
I did this by accident once in a game. I didn't know it was a real strategy. I don't know if i won or lost that game.
In the first example, couldnt the knight move beside the rook to threaten the queen, forcing you to either mive the queen or attack with the rook? And then it would destroy the gun because if you move the queen out of the way or eat the knight with the rook, they can start attacking the gun
3:56 We sacrifice... The Queeeeeen!!!
just set this up in a late middle game correspondence against my arch nemesis! only problem is my queen is leading the charge.. 😅 wish me luck

I didn't know it had a name, I named it MCTG (Mostly Checkmating Trade Gun)
I beat the master level puzzle but not one of the beginner ones
Wouldn't the best move at 1:43 be knight to E6 forcing the queen to move away since capturing it with the rook allows them to get an advantage on the queens file?

I saw that too. I think that is the best way out of the attack, disrupting the battery. Ne6

I can't believe I calculated the master puzzle and got it right
man why does it have such a cool name for a move that won't be used much unless you found a way
Why can I half calculate the advanced and master puzzles and get it right but I can even calculate the intermediate ones
@allanshpeley4284
Жыл бұрын
Some of the intermediate ones were tough. Also, you were probably starting to get used to the patterns by the later puzzles.
I've always just called it the triple stack
Me: (lines up 2 rooks and a queen ) Opponent: Arbiter this person is using Alekhine's gun on me. Arbiter: Tournament rules clearly prohibit usage of weapons such as guns to threaten opponents. You are disqualified. Go return the gun to Mr. Alekhine.
what is the best move in this position? me: the answer, is a gun. and if that dont work, use more gun.
This tactic is very simple
You can say I think triple charge
9:05 f6?
Isnt the puzzle on 9:14 wrong? If white moves the queen to g4 white would stop the attack? Maybe im missing something but if you take the queen with your queen a pawn would retake and block the support of the rook on g3 and ultimately whatever black tries to do to get controll back with the knight or the queen the white king would at some point be able to capture the rook and escape or if that g3 took captures the white queen it will eventually use the pawns to stop the gun tactic and make it impossible to mate white. Also the rook on c3 has a very good attack on the queen after the knight moves in the fight for control over the g4 square and when it captures the queen it also completely stops the gun tactic removing the possibility of an incoming mate. Again i must be missing something but i cant seem to find it.

@@mr.scream2934 well i mean yes but taking with the rook still makes white able to strike back with pawns and stop the attack wont they not?

Dude or girl whoever you are- a rook is far less valuable than a queen if you lose a queen for a rook you lose the game on autopilot 99% of the cases unless the other side has a serious compensation the comp white has is just laughable
@mr.scream2934

Besides if you think i am false go setup this position on board editor on lichess and try either analyze or play this with an engine just experiment a bit see it for yourself if giving up the queen for a rook is a good idea
Batteries Included. 🙂
That pawn in front of the gun was cute,sweet,innocent and doesnt even do anything, why do u have to destroy it with a battery so overkill😭😭
I always wanted to know the name of this, now I have
AL-E-Ek-Hinn
In the first example, does white have KE6? They counterattack your bishop and Queen, forcing RxE6, but then they take with their rook, attacking your queen again. I don’t know what I missed but that seems dreadful to me.
I've did this once
Me seeing the master puzzle instantly but calculating a line that's not even covered me be like (Nc5 Qd5 Qxd5+ cxd5 Rxe2+)
At least I solved one of the intermediate ones
Who needs tactics when I have a sniper rifle.
The alekhine's gun is a railgun change my mind.
I thought this was just a way to start checkmates
I used to think about this tactic but I just forgot about it because I thought it was stupid overtime
@SimplyAlxDW
Жыл бұрын
You wont be seeing alekhines gun in matches very often, more of a niche tactic and setting it up in the wrong situation could lose you the game
Any old Funhaus fans here that finally learned what Alekine’s Gun actually was?
And then he sacrifices THE QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
4:21 isn't mate, rook takes h8 and you lose your pieces for nothing Edit: Nevermind that that doesn't divert check.
Man, I really hate puzzles when the answer is "just sac your queen bro". They get me everytime.
More like Alekhine's cannon : heavy to setup, hard to move and usable once.
what a video
It seems that the gun does not work without a knight
Can you make a video on when it's a bad idea to use Alekhine's gun?
