A knight on the rim is grim? In german it goes: "Springer am Rand bringt Kummer und Schand!" (Roughly translated: Knight on the rim brings grief and shame). Finally I got to learn the english version, thanks! :D

Actually, the worst opening for Black is "C40 King's Pawn Game: Damiano Defense, Damiano Gambit" which give White +7. I accidently played this, at first I though it was a blunder. Turn out it's actually an opening in opening book lol

And funny enough, it is named after a 16th century Portuguese man who back the called it weak :)
Hard to believe these have earned recorded names. Maybe I can become famous and invent a "gambit" that gives the opponent a 10 point advantage - or even checkmate! - in the opening. (The Dunce Gambit?)
17:02 I think the Carrera Gambit can be a very powerful opening at lower elo. The idea is almost identical to e4 e5 qa5 (the king's pawn opening, wayward queen attack), where low elo opponents might try to kick the queen with a pawn move and lose their rook as a result. People who have already been hit by the wayward queen attack might not recognise the pattern because the queen isn't directly attacking a pawn this time.
@ArutaretiI
2 жыл бұрын
I was gonna comment this, it's a common pattern but in this case different enough to potentially not get recognized 🙂
17:00 Careful. The Carrera gambit has numerous traps including the g6 trap and the delayed Scholar's mate. 18:00 It also brought to my attention that if black is not careful, white can have nasty attacks if the bishop and the queen attacks f6 once it pushes the pawn to kick out the knight.

Yep I've fallen for the delayed Scholar's mate in a blitz game.

I like these videos about terrible moves a lot. I think I learn far more from Nelson explaining why a move is bad than by Nelson explaining why a move is good. Great content.
Conclusion: Don’t play openings that create problems, even if there’s smart ways to get rid of that specific problem
There's this _terrible_ one, too... Evans Gambit: Fontaine Counter-Gambit 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4 b5 Stockfish eval: +2.1

Hey chess wibes can you make these chess quiz videos like more i am watching the old ones but i am kinda running out of them they are really cool
I've started to grow fond of starting with the Hartlaub gambit but bailing after the bishop for more efficient moves.
Very well presented; thank you for sharing.
Alt title : how to play against The most unknown gambits
Yesterday an opponent played the worst opening i've ever seen. e4-f6, d4-g5 allowing me Qh5#. Still wondering what his deal was, is there even a worse opening out there?
at 3:59 with the Rook and Knight fork by Black's Queen, why can't the knight on G3 move to E2, protecting the Rook? Unless there was some line I missed, it seems like a fairly decent move. The knight is protected by the queen, king and bishop, so it's not like the Knight is undefended if it did move to E2.
Good video. Pachman gambit is very similar to Matinovsky gambit.
Man I play the nimzo - larsen and sometimes go into these weird f4 lines. Usually when the f8 bishop moves
7:54 If you're going to play the Borg Defence, have the decency to defend the g-pawn with f6!
I find it amusing that Stockfish is recommending exactly the sort of moves I was taught as a child - just develop your pieces...
Please make a video covering the Packman Wing Gambit 🙏🙏🙏
I like that this vid starts immediately without unnecessary talking
you are a really good teacher, and your video's are very relaxing and chill, you helped me recover from a mental breakdown with just watching this video, i wish more teachers were like you
If your opening says Guautemala defense you already know youre in trouble. 😁😁
10:54 My first otb chess game in college I actually ran into the Medusa gambit and stockfish said +2.9 agatinst a gambler and I just took the pawn and went on to refute this unsound gambit!!
4:00 why cant he put his night on e2 and protect the tower
In the guatemala defense one of the reasons why the evaluation is +2.4 is because the light squares on the queenside are very weak because you have played b6 and theres no light squared bishop.
In paris gambit you forgot to mention that in all the pressure white's still down a pawn
My favorite was the troon gambit because I can actually see how someone would fall for that. The undefended pawn is irresistible. Unfortunately it would only work once, after your opponent figures out they aren't supposed to take the pawn you're toast.
5:18 in poland we say on that „gambit sandomierski”
What about the Blumenfeld-Hiva gambit?
It's crazy these openings even have names
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says "develop your pieces"
7:40 the WHAT gambit??

bong cloud best opening
I must confess, I find Stockfish's evaluations rather extreme. I really don't think the positions are the equivalent of being a piece down!
@sexycowman
2 жыл бұрын
I think the problem with stockfish is it evaluates it as being a piece down.. if every move played afterwards is perfect. Which doesn't apply to most real scenarios.
11:06 basically black sacrifices a pawn so you play a trompowsky opening...
There’s a book move checkmate… that should be the worst opening right? (Blackbourne shilling gambit)
What about phillidor defense?
Zaire defense is just "go away, I'm happy with my pieces the way they are!"
1:45 Another solution is Qc2 for Black
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says “alright if you had a chance to look at that”
Surprised the the bongcloud isn't a bad opening
What the Zaire defense is doin like he wants a drawn?!
My dad loves one of those gambits and it has been working. Can't wait to destroy him next time.
I always play the Carrera Gambit. Either my opponent doesn't realize, or I'm just good?
What about the Noa gambit? Unlike the openings presented in the video, it has been played even by some strong players. Although, it gives black an advantage of around -1,7 for black, and at the master level, black won 88% of the games
suprised fool's mate wasn't on this list
5:26 d4 Nc6 d5 and Nb8 is called the Montevideo defense and it’s actually alright, stockfish doesn’t hate it, but the Zaire defense isn’t good at all. I just found it interesting that this montevideo defense is actually playable
I think even the dumbest beginners can know what's wrong with Zaire defense, black has wasted 4 moves at the start
3:15 actually as black ı would play f3 he has to take with g pawn or move knight if whlte take with g pawn then quenn h4 is a good 5 move checkmate

Its not really terrible after dxe, Ng4. But there is a nice Line called Rubinstein Variation in that Gambit in which White gives the pawn back but gets the bishop pair. Compared to the other stuff in this video in the Budapest you don't get necessary your ass handed to you if your opponent knows all the right moves.
