ALL THE TIME!🤪 There is a kit out there that fixes the issue of the oil pump sucking dry. The last owner had this done and I never had problems my whole ownership! Just did oil changes for 4 years and put 100,000km on it! I'd still have it if I didn't need a bigger vehicle!

My first ever car was a 2003 Toyota Celica GTS, and man did I love that car. My parents got it for me at 16 with 120,000 miles on it, and I drove it all the way until 190,000 miles. Just regular service, oil changes, brake pads replaced, and she drove like a champ every single day. I ended up selling it for $3,000 to use as a down payment for a brand new car, but looking back, I wish I kept it. That car gave me a lot of smiles and memories that I'll never forget.

It has been hard work and it needs a new clutch, but I absolutely love the thing. I learnt how to be a DIY mechanic over the past couple of years mainly from yourself! By seeing the many videos over the years it burns no oil, is efficient still, and by adding refrigerate, it still blows cold air. The only problem is with rust since I live in Central New York. Scion tCs sold for $16,000 with a bigger Camry engine, 17" alloys, abs, traction control, 4 wheel disk brakes, power windows, power sunroof, am/fm cd/mp3 radio. tC was a far better buy. I saw Celicas rotting on dealer lots while the tC were as good as sold as they roll off the car carrier. There was even a waiting list of about 4 months durin its first year.

The only problems tCs had were thin paint and that one model year when the 2.4L engine was burning oil However it was across the Toyota line, not exclusive to the tC. It could potter about quietly like a sensible family car no problem yet when you felt like it, it would make you feel like a racing driver - the lightness of the car, the steering and the gear change just felt so good. Here in the UK the 1zz is awful especially before 2003 were there weren't enough oil galleries in the engine. They blew all the time. They were eventually fixed later on and those from 2004 onward are very reliable. As for the 2zz Scotty couldn't be more wrong. They last really well here as long as you change the oil every 3000 miles. If you don't then a better oil pump will be needed and if you race them a baffled sump off of an mr2 is essential. 2zz is the better engine all day long. That 2001 obviously had an engine replacement to the better design to last

I owned a Pontiac Vibe with the 2ZZ-GE engine. I got it with 65,000 miles in 2012 and lost it to Pennsylvania rust in 2017 when it had 138,000 miles. The engine has a bad rap, and maybe it deserves it, but I got lucky with not having any problems with it. And it was a blast to drive. The engine makes a beautiful sound at and above 6,000 rpm. It was a daily driver for my now-ex-wife and she loved it and running it at high revs even more than I did...I had to take perfect care of the thing to keep odds of failure as low as possible. Thankfully, she liked to go fast in a straight line. Obviously, you have to thing long and hard before buying a car with one of these engines with high mileage (essentially all of them today) but they are undeniably fun.

I oen a Celica t sport 2zzge UK model for more than 2 years, banging the rev limiter every day when I drive it, racing it almost every weekend with my friends, if you change the oil regularly the engine can't be killed. The only problem with them is the weak gearbox, that can broke easily, I changed my gearbox after my differential broke when I had a stage 2 clutch for around 6 months and racing it regularly.

As he drove it out of the show room he told the salesman he was going to drive it to Canberra from Gippsland ( near Melbourne) and back on a family holiday, if it was to break down he would return and drive it through the showroom window.
