I owned a Porsche Cayman S and it was completely reliable and had zero unexpected repair costs. Yes, parts are more expensive and maintenance costs a lot… but the performance makes up for it in a "you need to pay to play sort of way." You do NOT need to pay $20K/year to maintain a Porsche, more like $1000.

Don't think the "look it up" part is really necessary. I mean the alternative to what you are saying being true is that you make up very specific fabrications about the reasons why Porsches are designed in a specific way. It's physically possible for you to do that, but it would be the kind of insane that has yet to be documented.

Recently I saw a late 70s/early80s 911 turbo that looked like it had just rolled out of the factory. I really liked them from that time. I really don't get it when someone spends big money on a car like this and then never drives it. The worst thing you can ever do with a car is to let it sit for long periods of time without being driven. They just deteriorate on you when you do that. Plus you spent the money on it go out and have some fun with it.

It doesn't matter where the ignition key is. The car should start reliably and not be left in the workshop. Porsches are difficult to maintain and expensive. Therefore, owners leave them in their garage and don't use them. Of course, after 10 years they still look like new...

My new car project, Mazda Miata NB2 still below the $50k mark, currently at ($27.8K). Curious what the world record is for a single car project or any single project. Probably those one-off Ferrari's with a minimum order. I think the former and late co-founder of Microsoft (Paul Allen) had a cool project/hobby, recovering American war ships from the ocean. Pretty correct Scotty what you tell us.Two remarks on what You said. When Porsche really considers to stop production of the 911 as they were too expensive to build, they hired a clever CEO at the time. This guy, an Engineer of our best Engineering University RWTH Aachen, hired TOYOTA Production experts to re-engineer 911 production to improve quality & manufacturing costs. Ever since this product was a license to print money for Porsche. Number 2 remark: There is a very interesting Code You can't access with your fancy tool, but Porsche dealers can: Porsche logs overrevs of the engine, and that is why everybody who considers to buy a second hand 911 should take this car to a dealer to get this information prior to purchase - that applies to shifters of course .....

Here in Germany there is no speed limit on the Autobahn. So you should be able to drive 700km across Germany very quickly in a Porsche... WRONG! Traffic does not allow high sustained speeds and the Porsche has to refuel every 400km. With a fast sedan and diesel engine, however, you only need to refuel every 800km. At the end of the day, the Porsche is slower. Remember: It is not the top speed that counts, but the average speed over several days.

People wondered and questioned if it was an air cooled engine why is it not in the front? Where most of the air would be? Only Answer I have to that is too much air would make it too cold and engines. Don’t like being too cold and they don’t like being too hot. So putting it in the rear was a good idea and the added manual activated cooling FAN would suck into the engine bay not blow air out. And there was also an opening above the rear axle to allow the passing air from under the car go into the tube (tunnel-hole) so those really shouldn’t have gone in deep water. The VW rabbit of the same size was actually air tight and seen them go into ponds and drive around like a BoAT! But I don’t think the Bettles were designed to do that. It would be awesome to have a convertible modern car that could float and drove into ponds like the old rabbits of the late 70’s 80’s
