They're not losing too much that they'll go bankrupt or anything. If there is such "downfall", I'm guessing it's all behind-the-curtain issues such as management, sponsorship, HRD, cashflows, company planning, policies, investment, etc. It is still quite a nightmare for a company to make some adjustments on the micro level.

They started with building an expensive lab to "Accurately" test products but then fudged numbers when in time crunches which wasn't much news until someone from their labs team said that their data was better than another youtuber who had been known for excellent testing, then they were given a prototype of a product to review and they ended up auctioning it off when the company who made it didn't give them permission to. Then Linus fired back at these claims with pretty terrible responses not taking responsibility. And the final drama was an ex employee of the company came out with allegation's of horrible and hostile work environments. That's basically the scope of the drama.

I watch a lot of LTT, both before and after the controversy. I've always been the type to look up multiple reviews, but I do tend to favor some reviewers over others. Despite knowing some of the inaccuracies in LTT's testing, I still rated their reviews pretty highly. After this however, despite the fact that I continue to watch their content (literally watched a video just before this one), I can safely say that I no longer hold their reviews highly in anyway. In fact, I now find myself actively looking for inconsistencies between LTT's and other reviewers even if I don't intend to. So yes. I generally believe this "downfall" is quite significant. Integrity and trust is pretty important in the tech review field. Losing it is a massive shit stain that likely won't go away any time soon.

I'd say calling it a downfall is a bit clickbaity. The channel is so huge, and his media empire is so successful that this is already something they've basically moved past. Yeah they are just doing fine. Their average viewing rate is still around 1.5 million for EACH video they put out. You have to look really hard to find any video that has less then 1M views. Subscriber count doesn't matter all that much unless you can get those views.

I think it was even a good thing to happen to LTT. They kinda got a harsh reality check. And as it seems the content has changed too because of that. Which is a good thing, and them being more open about testing and the process, checking more things before posting is also a good thing. In the end it is good it happened for the consumer (us viewers) because they again need to raise the bar and be better, and we get better more accurate content because of that.

Not hating, I didn't realise I was part of the view counts for these until this and the Madison bomb dropped. Never looked back at LTT, not missing it at all.

Linus has a lot of viewers that are casuals, prosumers don't watch Linus because his reviews and tests are superficial, and it was the same before this scandal. They created the Labs just for this reason, to be taken seriously by the prosumers which i don't think is working, at least yet.

everyone was quick to say it's over for LTT. In the meantime, true, lost some 200k subscribers (from 15 million plus) but since then it got back to the original number. So... that's the whole "downfall".

tbf older channels do tend to gather a lot of relatively inactive subs over time, so their active viewership is generally only a fraction of their total sub count. plus people could remain subbed despite losing trust and/or engagement. view count trends are more indicative of whether something was a downfall. if it went from 1.5 million to 1.5 million... there probably was none lol

wouldn't really call it a downfall. Even 200k subs is nothing really when you are over 15 million. Their floatplane sub count is also back to where it was in April, so they lost like 6-7 months of work growing that, but at the end of the day, much of the people who watch the KZread stuff don't even know about all this that happened, and they are still putting out videos that get 1 million+ views in days.

It is; his Reviews were basically "meh" as many already said before hand and now it depends on "how relieable is Madision as Narrator" - because if she's "right" and actually told us the truth, the rest of his channel is also "just meh". I mean, be honest ... Nobody watched his videos for his Reviews on stuff. We all knew it was at best a "Product Video" - We all watched/watching due to wanky stuff they do and the "feel good atmossphere". Sometimes is funny, if you look in his Forum, how he acts like he would've an actuall clue about alot of stuff - Yet mostly the "more detailed discussion" in there are done by people which are not even "full on members of the team"; and you will realize that if you then watch some videos which were made *after* such "in depth discussions" happened. So you know that part of their own research was basically "read our own forum!". Idk mate, no hard feelings, no offense; I do work in the semi conductor industry. Yeah. Although even years before that, I just watched Linus to laugh and "feel good" - not to get "Insights in Tech I couldn't get somewhere else!". Yet, that his reviews / tests are absolute meaningless is now painfully obvious for everybody.

So, I'm watching this video in May 2024. I would love to add some updates. I'll say that they have improved a lot in terms of the error correction. Yes, the other points of comparing the companies they work with to the other companies are valid. But considering they are a tech KZread channel. And Madison's allegations, the 3rd party investigators said that the allegations were baseless. I do mostly watch them for entertainment and learning, not to make any decisions.

I agree with everyone else who say it's just a wake up call, it's a reality check, it's telling him to lift his game, stop being a child, stop misleading people, stop screwing people over. There's no downfall here, losing 200k subs isn't a big deal as they've done enough correction to easily gain that back. It's one of those "fool me once" situations, if he slips like this again then it'll be a downfall.

Doubt it makes much of a difference to him, aside from some embarrassment. If you do an internet search for 'best youtube tech channel' you will generally just find a list of the most subscribed channels (mainly complete trash), that is one way that people find these channels, artificially creating continued growth for them.

I've missed this entire spectacle, but if anything people should learn in taking advice: Never follow just one channels reviews. It helps a lot to put some time and thought into a product to see if it's something for you. My last purchase for my computer was a case, for better airflow and water build. I watched many channels for a better break down of the product and even then, I missed a few things. Just watching one channel should never be enough to provide enough information for a purchase.

I can tell you that all the accusations from Madison soup is made up whole cloth. It follows the formula perfectly. Make vague accusations against unnamed people and use slippery language to do it. There is a reason she did not report "criminal behavior" to the police. She doesn't want anyone who can both ask questions and compel others to answer.

He later refused to apologize in his writte reddit response over something he was completely wrong about and tried to downplay his own incompetence, while it was clear to everyone he was the party who did wrong. That is highly irresponsible and unethical behavior. Dude went into full arrogant mode and first literally refused to apologize 2 times. I understand when you have 100 000 000 USD company you tend to forget what apology is but he went in full ego trip mode until he enraged a lot of people. his first apology video also was made in bad taste, him continuing to act high and mighty and trying to make a spoof out of the apology video while advertising products in the video and monetizing it. Later when even that didnt work out well he then started to act genuinely sorry when he noticed he was losing 50 000 subscribers per day. These people tend to forget that without their subscribers they are nobodies and that how fragile the whole thing about maintaining popularity is. I sincerely hope this was an eye opener for him and the leadership of the company.

Used to do that when i was a kid, 25 years ago, world was quite different back then and you actually had to read literal magazines, do your research and check with friends. It was time consuming as well but it was fun and when you are 13 you have all the time in the world. Now after 25+ years, working in tech as a manager, i really dont have time and patience for this, luckily the marked have evolved so i just buy bunch of stuff online, play with it a bit to see what gives me the best user experience for the buck and after i return all the rest. Sometimes playing with the toys i realize they are really good but also that i really dont have time or use for them so i return them as well. To be honest I'm mostly using my phone or my corporate laptop, not turning on my personal PC i have build from scrap at all, maybe once per two weeks to play some old stuff for a hour or two. Instead of burning my time with nerdy stuff i rather go out for a proper dinner, for a walk with my dogs or just go for some nice vacation to Dubai. Over the time when i was obssesed by tech just for the fact its a tech i really could not care less about the tech, I'm now only about the user experience.

You miss the fact that LTT, if anything bad happens then understand why and learn from it. It’s also not just Linus anymore, he has a team over like over 50+ people. GamerNexus drama was stupid and they settled their beef. The drama was stupid cause the guy was trying to say their testing is better, which is normal since that’s competition. But it made it sound like they were attacking them.

I'm not saying LTT doesn't deserve its downfall, but is it really experiencing one? Its subscriber loss isn't nearly as dramatic as your clipped and cropped graph made it look, and while it does look to have upset his subscriber growth and views per week, he is also uploading fewer videos, and his views per week look proportionate to that. This is a decent synopsis of the KZread drama, but I'm not sure there is actually a 'downfall' here. We'll see, looking at the stats myself I'd say don't hold out hope if you're waiting for one.

I think part of the reason the community gave him a chance - from longer discussions - is that all this drama happened while he was already stepping down as CEO. So when he said "yeah there will be changes" no one had to take it on faith. It was already pretty clear changes were happening, and in some lights the criticisms of the company seemed unfair because things were already in flux.

Haven't watched the full video yet but it seems a bit of an exagerration to call it a downfall. You said he lost 200k subs which for a channel with over 15 million, isn't that much. And looking at his video views there does seem to be a bit of a drop but he's still averaging over a million views per video. You know how when you play a colony building game you set up a massive source of food in the beginning, then forget about it until your population outgrows your food generation too fast for you to respond? I feel like LMG did the same thing. They grew so rapidly issues they couldnt prepare themselves for started cropping up. Yeah that's my idea. Though I will say that Linus is a bit of a narcissist who will twist things to benefit himself. Like how he made an email a day after GN mentioned they sold the billet labs block he claimed it was "auctioned off" yet later on he says he compensated billet immediately after he learned he sold it without permission. That doesn't follow. I will also say that Linus's fear of losing their high spot on youtube has also induced the heavy crunch his entire team mentions and has lead to these problems. Even the billet labs video was caused by crunch as he didn't feel like spending a few hundred bucks to grab the right GPU for a proper test and then openly calling the product trash to the world. The warranty issue was always a waste of time. I agree with Linus that warranties are a cheesy system with many cases they have so many back doors that almost nothing is actually covered by them. Like how I had headphones with a warranty, but that warranty does not cover drops, blowing up from excessive power, and has a cut off of 6 months for wear. What's the point? At that point it's just for products that came broken but you don't need a warranty for that.

Man 5 minutes in and a perfectly fine apology . I skipped around a bunch of stupid internet drama with Linus being the mature person.

LMM has 15.5M subscribers right now, OH THE DOWNFALL. Can I just say, and this is my take, Linus seems like a guy who made a really popular tech youtube empire, but did not have the organizational and bureaucratical skills to organize and manage it while also making content. And so that turned into him spinning plates, and him making countless episodes about him remodeling his house, and shit. And strangely, he kind of made that work. But in the end, being the manager is not what he's best at. I know every one is shocked.

Unless the law is different in Canada, there is no way they can speak publicly about an employee’s conduct, even if it’s to clear their name. There are strong privacy protections for employees because of the power discrepancies and this is probably work related enough the get those protections.

Pretty sure they can provided they don't violate anyone's privacy like giving out names e.g. " we found out certain allegations to be true and we have taken neccesary actions bla bla bla". Very corporate and quite useless by Internet people's standarts since they love to point fingers and try to cancel .

They can refute allegations made in public since the person making them made it public knowledge to begin with. So they can say here this proves it was a lie but cannot add disparaging or unrelated stuff like and she drank all the coffee and never made more.

@@demonfedor3748 from a political/PR perspective though, it's probably better if they just never bring it up, even if they did nothing wrong, it doesn't help to remind people about nonsense. There is this whole thing about the human psyche known as "guilt by association", and it applies to events too. Like how a lot of insurance companies will increase your premiums if you get in a wreck, even if it is not your fault at all.

A winner takes responsibility, a loser blames everybody else.

Thank you for identifying the single biggest problem I had with Linus. I liked them as a Content creator "family" for so long, but it didnt take long until I had these weird vibes from Linus. How he always preached cohesion in the team, always said "I gotta be better than those scumbag CEOs", were friends not a company blablabla. And when big disaster of the week came around, Linus ""tried"" to take responsibility, but immediately shamed all involved people on camera. Or the rather whiny way he sometimes talked about "oh the channel is doing great, but thats only because I keep working 48 hours a day to fix peoples mistakes" while fucking side-eyeing one of his team so hard. Sure, theres worse people in the world but over the years his recessive assholes genes have become more apparent

imo, GN only started attacking when LTT is starting to grow as a competitor to their lab testing space. LTT's business practices only made it easier for them.

Ik what you mean, in comparison to his reputation and its worth views on KZread are less so. but to say that they "dont mean much" is definitely understating it. Views are king on KZread

This video drags on trying to make normal things look bad, with a few actual bad things. Linus did take responsibility for the bad things quickly and spoke openly about it.

I actually liked LTT when i got started getting into electronics its such a shame to see all these drama happen especially with an old and very familiar youtuber :(

@@vRyanXOXO they fucked up some stuff internally, which then lead to providing false information in videos and also some miscommunication with a brand of some sort that sent over their cooler thing. thats about as 'drama' as it gets. youtuber apology came as expected, everyone forgave and forgot, and ltt learned. thats the end of it

@@gangsterism woah. It's almost like some people can manage to not blow things out of proportion and use some critical thinking instead of letting KZread video essays do the thinking for them! Couldn't have been summed up better but nah - it needed a tabloid style 30 minute essay to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Views and YT revenue do some crazy things to some creators.

I miss when LTT was just a small group running out of a house and they were reviewing pc products in a kitchen. Although they didn't lose their steam when they initially bought the studio space I say it happened when they bought the lab space

@@user-cm3jr7sr1z Firstly, without clear receipts that the proceeds went to charity, never blindly believe anyone is actually giving proceeds to charity. It's an easy thing to say that people eat up without question and that's how dishonest people get away with getting lots of money. Secondly, Billet asked for the prototype back BEFORE it was auctioned off. What the hell does that say about Linus to you? To auction a prototype of something is already beyond shitty. That is non-public tech that a competitor could purchase and steal ideas from.
