WHY IS MY BLACK WOOLED LAMB TURNING WHITE?? Vlog 288
COCO IS TURNING WHITE!!
I've noticed over the last week or so, his black wool is really starting to fade. This can happen with the Suffolk breed (I believe...) They can start out black, and then as they age, their torso can turn white.
Also finished planting my beets in our brand new garden.
Did a round with Mark on the corn planter.
And found out I have some new bottle lambs...
A quick update on the flock and what is next on the sheep farm for jobs...

God, Billy is so freaking cute. You can see in his eyes how blissed out he is to be with you.
If you know that temperatures dropping, USE THE PLASTIC you took off the silage pile. Cover plants with black side up and use ROCKS to hold down plastic from blowing away.
We need Billy merchandise, I need a stuffed teddy of him 😍

As long as Coco keeps his personality, that's amazing how much the wool has changed.
You mentioned Mark bought enough garden seed for 10 years. My grandpa was an old farmer and after buying tons of seed for the fields could not just get 30-40 seeds of something. He also thought in acres and could not just get two burial plots but a 1/4 acre in the hometown cemetery. One Christmas he gave us all burial plots in our stockings and invited all of our friends to be buried there as well. He was a funny interesting guy.

Jess did a really good job on your hair. Looks nice. I must admit that, the black lamb, has come so far in life. It’s been a real joy to watch. From that limp little lamb to this robust youngster. That’s what hard work is. You never gave up on it. He is a real fighter. I would love to watch him grow up and become a father. Billy is so chill. If all his offspring got his personality, you would have the best tempered sheep herd ever.

When you shear save the belly wool for your garden so you can spread it between the rows. That keeps the moist in the grownd and the weeds away. All wool works :)
@emmalyondelsordo9740
4 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea since she doesn't have a use for it. I have always used straw or landscape paper. My grandma uses newspaper. either way something to keep the moisture in is a good idea.
@Rannerud

When i tryed it the critters did not go for it. And because she has the biggest birdfeast a few meters away aka the sheepbarn. I dont think the garden will be so intersting
My grandmother uses sheep’s wool to mulch her garden especially her tomatoes because it holds the moisture and when the tomatoes fall off the vines they don’t rot because there laying on the wool.
Sometimes Billy is just a mood.

My *personal belief* is that's a rideau influence, granted, I've only known rideau, texel and ...il du France breeds, but the last two? I wouldn't waste my brain cells on, although the texel tasted quite nice. The ewe lamb he was bred to was a twit who did produce a lovely lamb herself, but the twit factor heavily influenced my opinion of the breed, the rideau was our first and became a favourite trading commodity with nearby breeders, mostly due to his temperament and prolific production. ALL HIS DAUGHTERS WERE KEPT BACK IN THEIR VARIOUS HERDS AS REPLACEMENTS, OR SUPPLEMENTS. TO THE POINT THAT A FAIR BIT OF DIVISION HAD TO GO ON BEFORE BRINGING HIM IN FOR FOLLOWING SEASONS. 😯🤔🤦♀️🤯

That garden is going to be fantastic...and the lamb cud chewing was a delight. If your beets are too thick, thin them for beet greens which are wonderful additions to salads.
I loved this one, you guys are so cute and efficient. As soon as you said he bought enough seeds to keep you gardening for the next 10yrs I immediately said well that's because he's a crop farmer not a gardener! Lol I have a feeling that you will be very successful. 😆
Seeing you and Billy together makes us smile 😁

When I would plant beets, I would sprinkle the seeds, when planting. As they grew, I would thin them . The leaves would be boiled and fried, then eaten. Stay safe, be well

Nice to see Sandi planting her vegetable garden! It’s so satisfying when you can eat what you grow….👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You are being heavily promoted on Google in Australia at the moment.
You are allowed to bond with any lamb that brings you joy. It’s one of the special attributes of you!
Love that Billy's nose is black and pink so he's easy to spot! He's also doesn't seem shy to get into a good scrap with the other rams ... here's to a long life! 🍻
Sandi, thank you for inspiring me. I grew up with my grandpa (neighbor through the field) as a farmer. We helped him often. I was always very uninterested in farming, but you have shown me why my 93 year old grandfather is still in love with farming. He has more energy than I do and I believe it is because of his cows. Thank you for sharing the joys in farming. By the way, I love the Billies!!! ❤️

Yes, I think my grandfather instilled in me a love for farming. He raised a family of five children on a one acre lot. He raised chickens, turkeys, and beef on that little farm. I was two years old when he took me to the hen house to help gather eggs. I was too afraid to reach under the hens. We threw the kitchen scraps out to the calves in the little pasture. My grandfather gave my sister and I rides in the wheel barrow up and down the driveway. My grandmother had beautiful yellow bearded iris growing along the driveway. I picked off one of the blooms real short, no stem, to give to my mom. My mom was horrified, but Grandma said it was okay.❤ I loved the few days I spent with them on that sweet family farm. It carried me through my childhood, as we traveled the country, my dad was a US Army pilot. Farmers, large and small are the salt of the earth. It's no wonder; God is a farmer.(Gen. 2:8)😉❤❤❤
I love your videos ❤ much love from kenya Africa ❤
I don't know what it is, but I LOVE watching your videos. Sandi you have become my good friend and I don't even know you!
This was an awesome video Sandi. Just the combination of everything was a smooth transition between your gardening to Billy to the bottle babies. Coco is such a sweetie too!!! This was today's first KZread video watched for me! Thanks again for another peek into your life! My days are complete with Sandi and Her Sheep!
This is just what I needed, anxiety has been a bit bad today, your videos always help me feel a bit better!!
Yes, a fever would lead to wool loss. Could effect his his fertility as well. Smart to check him out. We had a few sheep that were as friendly as Billy. They are so fun, because they follow you around looking for attention. Plus they don’t mind when we picked up the lambs.
Billy is SO CUTE!!! Congrats on your garden, hope it goes well x sending love to you and your family from Wales

I love the way Billy chews.....and he's like.....yeah....she's my girl
There’s nothing sweeter than a baby, any type of a baby, nursing on momma. I have a bull calf that is just a momma’s boy, at 8 months I’d go out to the pasture he’d come running over with a milk beard, just the cutest thing ever. Starting to finally wean now because momma’s going to be giving him a sibling in another 3-4 months.
My favorite vlogger about farming 1. Weed'em n reap about city farming 2. Justin Rhodes about country farming 3. Sandi brock about sheep 4. Mark brock about field and equipments 5. Lumnah acres about country farming
I wonder if the KZread farmers have any idea how much the world relied on them for some measure of sanity during the pandemic. Thanks for all you taught us. Thank God for mission essential people who wanted to share. Thanks. Loved seeing you with Cammy the other day. My next door neighbor is a hairdresser, she’s still doing cutting for me and hubs in 2024, something to be thankful about during the pandemic.
My Dad R.I.P. was a master gardener and a horticulturist, he owned the local Feed & Seed store EVERYONE went to his to ask questions about gardens, lawns etc. For planting it is best to wait till Mother's Day. He studied at Purdue, so he knew his stuff which is why his business did so well for 30 + years. :)
Your hair looks great. We all feel better when we can do the little things that make us feel like ourselves. I worked on the mental health team when our area had a huge flood a few years ago. Yesterday I just HAD to see a friend. We went to a parking lot, kept our distance and had a good face to face conversation. It felt so good. I've been making masks like crazy for a month now. I could sure use a hug though.
Oh sweet Coco! He is precious! I will still love him anyway...
Have fingers crossed for all the Farmers .

I'm watching this a year later & can't help but giggle at the size of that garden. Now, compared to the rest of your farm, that little strip is a tiny piece of land, but I can't help but wonder if you are growing beets for every school in your province!!! How many hockey teams could you fill with all that produce!! We had "big" gardens while I was growing up & our little family of 4 could only eat so much of the food we grew!! And it's so much work everyday!!! But Sandy & family do everything big!!! ....& with straight lines...😁 Your videos are great!! Thank you for all the work you do for us!!!
Are you gardening for all of Ontario? I love how ambitious you are with this garden! 😎

This is a normal size garden
Be sure and keep us updated on the garden. I'm also looking forward to seeing your garden next year and seeing how it compares
OMG I THINK I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH BILLY!
I do believe you will have LOTS of produce. When I saw the bag of beet seeds, I thought that was enough for a small town. Each beet seed generally is actually a cluster which will produce 3-5 plants. I checked your weather and yes is it is not nice for seeding. What you planted in the garden should be ok, except if the beans come up early. The rule of thumb for sweet corn, especially if it is a higher sugar variety, is, when it is warm enough to walk barefoot in the garden. I can't believe no one has asked to take one of each of your last triplets. Always looking forward to these.
Hey your hair is really pretty!!!!! Did you tip the hairdresser? She did a nice job. Can't wait to see the garden. Thanks for spending a half hour with me today. It made my coffee taste better and the homemade banana bread I made yesterday did you enjoy it? Ha Ha....... Decker my 3 year old grandson always likes watching the baby lambs frolicking with me but today he wanted to watch Mark on the tractors.....go figure. Hugs from Minnesota
Forgot to mention, your hair turned out great. I know it is such a small thing in the scheme of things, but getting your hair done just makes you feel better.
I will pray that the weather will stay Good an not too cold for you. Be blessed 🙏🏻 God can do miracles. 😊 I prayed that on my wedding will be Good weather and the days bevore where rainy, still i prayed and on my wedding day we had such warm sunny weather. And it was the only day where the sun shined. After the wedding the next days an week was rainy. So i can say God made me a wedding gift by bringing the sun that day. ❤ Greetings from Germany ❤
Everybody needs Billy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice garden and we just scattered beet seeds and just culled/thinned out the plants . Don’t forget to plant one hill of Zucchini, feed the village.

Excess is relative and can *always* be stored for later possible lean times. Given our weather patterns and predictability, myself, I'd prefer to store for my family than sell...but that's me and my own choices, each to their own...🤷♀️
Glad you think in imperial measures. My husband and I call it the understandable scale. We had already had well over twenty years of the imperial scale, before we changed to the metric scale and measure.
Billy looks like he's smiling
Oh Sandi, you are such a gift. Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your precious moments with us. Give your family hugs from us. ❤❤❤ God bless.
I've fallen in Love with so many of your Lamb's
Billy is so handsome, lambs are so cute, I love watching your vlogs
It's great to see your gardening. You work so hard to feed other people. You should have a lovely garden to enjoy for yourself.
Billy also brings me great joy

You and Billy have an amazing relationship!
Your hair is beautiful. Love the lambs. Billy is awesome. What a big garden. You go girl!!🐑

Good morning Sandi, I got my little patch garden planted yesterday, videoed the whole thing, KZread wouldn't load it correctly. Dang it. You might want to think about a bunny fence around your garden, before the rabbits find it. The bunnies will every piece of greens coming up. My problem is squirrels digging in my pots.
