When do I help? (STUCK & MALPOSITIONED LAMBS) Vlog 314

Had a couple close calls over the last 2 days, but thankfully, I was here to observe and assist only when needed!!
It's been my goal this lambing group to not interfere as much as I typically do... especially since a lot in this group are lambing for their first time.
Ewe lambs can be easily freaked out, and associate trauma with their lamb... so I've been letting nature do the work as much as I can!!
Finally also had to wave the white flag with my engorged ewe... She just wouldn't let me milk her out to help with the swelling... and by day 2, the lambs were getting too weak to even fight for a drink...
You win some, you lose some...

Yell to my 4-year old that a new video was just posted! He comes flying into the computer room yelling yeah I get to see the Sheep and the babies. Yea my Sandi is on. He loves watching your videos. My husband's aunt and uncle have a sheep/goat farm and they were there all the time until the COVID-19 hit. My son's and their cousins were getting ready to show their sheep and goat for the fairs coming up but they can't now. They love their lambs and goats. Your videos bring them so much joy and comfort being able to see lambs again.

They decided to have the fair in my county in Ohio. I was so relieved because it's the one thing I enjoy every year but more importantly we need to keep our childrens interest in the animals and agriculture. It's so very important we don't lose any more of our rural farmers and give the kids the incentives to strive to keep that going! When they were talking of cancelling our fair I was heartbroken for the kids that put so much work into it! I was elated for them that my state didn't cancel it!!

The Rideau ewes should produce more milk because of the East Friesian influence . That will influence the weaning weights . It will be interesting to see if that advantage persists to market weight .

Sandi, I have been subscribed to your channel for some time now and really appreciate all the work you do to get videos posted so frequently! I would like to say that these are your sheep, your farm, and if you feel that you need to intervene when a ewe appears distressed then do so. It is better to get involved when you are not needed than to stand back and potentially lose a lamb or a ewe! Do what you feel is best for your animals and don't worry about the nay-sayers.

Good morning Sandi, talked to uncle about your engorged ewe. He said to milk even if she doesn't like it. It extremely painful for her too, to be that full and no release. He also said you can freeze the milk from her for up to one month or use it to supplement other lambs. He will do it in pinch and if he has the time. Time I know is the biggest factor having enough time for anything besides breathing that is. Haven't seen Mark post in a while, I know that you said in another video, that he is battling army worms in the wheat fields. They aren't any fun and destroy crops in NYC second. Much love.....

This popped up in my stream...it was the universe answering my need for some Sandi and her sheep.❤ I realize you are beyond busy, but I was in need of the "Baby Dance". I could use a whole entire video of just the "Baby Dance" for days like this! How can you stay down when can watch baby lambs so happy to be happy!❤ It amazes me how much difference between this lamb filming and your new videos. You are a natural at this and have only grown bigger and better. I'm not sure how old Marge or Big Momma are but I am sure one of them has her 30 seconds of fame in this video.❤ I don't know the difference in the breeds, but you seem to have more black and white ewes in this video. @@aurorarowley7310 that's what I came to comment; 2 of 10 is a big part of the percentage. I wonder if there were more between the 25 and the 29 in the other group? I wonder if there were other commonalities with the small ones? I have a small sheep flock and never weigh them so I have no idea why this interests me so much, haha.

Not a bad idea. If I remember right the shearer said putting them on their rumps kind of puts them into a trance. She might check on the pressure points Shearer's use to help control the sheep easier. Might be a way to keep them from kicking too much too. Or at least hold them their easier.

Well pregnant sheep are like humans. If the weather is hot/humid they find it uncomfortable and their respiration rate will rise. They will pant a lot. The sheep will eat less in really unpleasant conditions. If the weather is freezing a lot of the ewes energy goes into keeping her body temperature constant and protecting her lamb. The ewes will eat more to fuel the body.
