Coach Nick went through Game 1 of the Western Conference Playoffs First Round between the Golden State Warriors and the Portland Trail Blazers to explain what makes Draymond Green such a great defender. There are highlight plays that everyone notices, but it's the low key subtle things with communication and positioning that sets him apart and makes the Warriors an elite defensive team.

Hi coach Nick I would like to hear your opinion about Draymond Green as an overrated player. I think that in the NBA today we have a thin (or almost no) margin between a superstar/all star player and a great role player. I consider Green as the best role player in the NBA but superstar-NO. Nowadays people even compare him to Barkley which I think is ridiculous and that he would never be even close to him, I think that he works well in Golden state's enviorement but on any other system he would be an average player. Your oppinion please!

Durant yes, but Curry and Klay are not really typical NBA players. Defending against Curry and Klay makes you a good perimeter defender, sure. But its not going to do anything for you when you have to guard Lebron.

Blue Guarding Lebron can be done...STOPPING HIM can not. GSW don't have to worry about LBJ...all the Warriors have to do is play the same EVIL defense they usually play and they'll be ok. Not saying beating the Cavs will be "easy"...bu it won't be as difficult as last time for 3 reasons : (1) GSW are all healthy...(2)...we have KD with us....and (3) the Cavs HAVE - NO - DEFENSE. Trust me...Cavs don't wanna see a HEALTHY Warriors team in the finals.

Kahwi is the best on ball defender. Gobert is the best interior protection. Draymond, however, is multi-faceted on defense. He defends big or small, pick and roll, interior and perimeter, and is bar none the best help defender in the NBA because he sees how offense develops and tries to do. Last and most importantly, he burns with the kind of passion rarely seen in generations, certainly not evident from Kahwi or Gobert.

Edward Lee Great points made brother! However I think Kawhi is just as passionate, however in his own way. While Draymond is full emotional energy that ignites his teammates, Kawhi is a bit more stoic and fundamentally sound in both offense and defense. I feel Draymon is hot blooded in a good way, while Kawhi is a cold-blooded assasin.

Draymond is the guy who makes sure he has control and knowledge of everything on defense. Notice how he knows how the Blazers' plays work, who he can help off of, which players to concentrate on, and which of his teammates would need his help the most. Being like this lets him to be so many steps ahead. His knowledge and control aren't the only things that are great about his defense though, his footwork and the way he works around the officiating but still play defense at the most optimal level are both great and are just a marvel to watch.

Draymond Green is a phenomenal athlete and defender. But what makes him special is the intellectual side of the game. Many may not know that Draymond has a photographic memory. So if a player makes a move and scores on him, Draymond remembers that. So the next season, or even a couple years down the line, when the same player tries the same move, Draymond is ready and prepared for it this time. His high basketball IQ, mixed with his athleticism, combined with his all-out hustle, and throw in a photographic memory, and Draymond has become a beast of a defender.

Whoever thinks Kawhi and Gobert are better defenders didn't watch the game last night. It was a truly historic performance and Draymond singlehandedly neutralized the entire Blazers offense in the 4th quarter. Kawhi can lock down a wing, Gobert can stuff someone's shot, but Draymond is true swiss-army knife that can do both. Weak side help, rim protection, coverage, man defense, BBIQ, intensity and hustle, every aspect that you can think of on defense is where Draymond dominates. There's never been a player like Draymond before that can control and dominate the game without scoring a single point. Draymond is that nuclear blast that wipes out the methodic and strategic advances made by the opposing offense. While his emotional aspect is a double-edged sword, when he gets going, you can almost see pure energy streaming off of him and the crowd and his teammates feeding off of it, transforming the whole Oracle Arena into a nuclear fission that devours the opposing team. Truly an amazing player.

I just want to let any viewers know that if you're trying to be great in NBA 2K , then this is the channel. I'm not even kidding, I just made SS3 for the first time in myPark with a record of 2744 wins and 1044 losses (I had 2 times more losses last year), an individual record of 300-20, and a proam record 230-10. I accomplished all of this after watching this channel; Bball doesn't only focus on the analytics of the game but also the mechanics and physics of the sport. I remember starting off last year with the Spurs Hammer Play breakdown and taught it to my friends and that made us become one of the most unstoppable offense in 2K. Along with that Bball throws in tips in creating your myPlayer as well with comments like "He has an incredibly long wingspan that makes him a great defender" giving you insight on what wingspan to give a DEFENSIVE player you're creating. Thank you so much Bball for making life easier lol

SMH, all of these people are saying Rudy or Kawhi, which are both fine picks, but provide no fucking evidence. No stats, no signature plays, nothing. These goddamn Stans are so annoying. Draymond stopped both a 3 and a dunk on a 2-1 fastbreak in the fucking playoffs and almost got a 5x5. He's the most important player on a Top 2 defense, can singlehandledly blow up PnR schemes, can defend 1-on-1 against the best players, kills transition plays, guards the rim as well as a center. Kawhi and Gobert are amazing in their own right, but provide a god damn argument.

Kawhi isn't the best, but the impact he brings to the Spurs being the #1 guy on defense and offense is unbelievable, that is the main reason he is a top 3 or top 5 MVP candidate, both Westbrook and Harden doesn't play a whole lot of defense (their offensive impact is outstanding though). I'm a Spurs fan, so i've watched every single Spurs game this season.

kawhi is a better player but draygoat is a better defender cuz he reads evenrything and gives his team motivation and when a teammate gets all pumped up like that you'll get pumped up

The thing about Kawhi is he isn't as versatile. You can put Kawhis man in the corner (Kawhisolation) and just play 4 on 4, effectively taking Kawhi out of the defensive possession. You can't do that with Draymond, he can literally guard 1-5 and will switch to make sure he impacts the play. Since Kawhi can't guard 4s and 5s it becomes very difficult for him to do it.

That's exactly why teams take him out the game, because he is such a good defender. That's a horrible argument. Teams would't have to do that if it weren't for Kawhi being such a good defender

Agree with you you 100% here. Draymond is by far the Warriors' most relevant player.
