The problem with trying to shut down Luka, is that he scores by reflex. The only time you see him putting much thought into it, is when he's involving the rest of the team.

I do not think that Mavs are favorite to win. If KI and LD will not play the best efficienct games I think Celtics have bigger chance. It probably will be quite a dog fight. Soon we see. The key is to defend White. He is X factor in most games.

Not sure about the overwhelming favoritism for the Mavs. I've YET to see anybody point out how Dallas will defend the Celtics 5 out and mismatch hunting. I personally don't see Luka and Kyrie out scoring Boston's 5 out offense. Nor stopping it on defense. Dallas's defensive scheme has been to shrink the floor by sending guys off non-shooters into the driving lanes on the best scoring threats. This has only worked so far because literally all their matchups in the west have had literally one scoring threat with supporting guys like Towns, Dort, Holmgren going cold from 3 plus the fact those teams played non-shooters like Giddey and Anderson on the floor. The Celtics have at least 4 shooting and scoring threats that can also defend with the Mavs having 2-3 guys that can be hunted in pnr. Mismstch hunting for other teams hasn't work on the Mavs because the Mavs were basically free to send as much back side help as they wanted after the switch. If the Mavs send help on Boston from there it's 3 point city....unless the Celtics just go cold. Boston can also pretty much put any of their guys on the Mavs bigs since they don't score on mismatches. So mismatch hunting won't really be as effective for Luka. I personally don't think this is a good matchup for Dallas no matter how well Luka and Kyrie do.
Yet some people on certain podcast will say things like "Luka and kyrie arent skill players" ridiculous. Dort was out of hand, but focus on the game Luka. Always remember "play the game".

The answer is foul Luka every possession and assume the refs won’t call it.
First and foremost what I’d do is attack him on defense. Whoever he is guarding is getting the ball. Force him to get tired on defense. Boston luckily has both white and holiday where neither has to be the primary scorers. So they should be rested enough on defense. I think Boston will hold him to 18-8 at least three games. But my prediction is Irving will have at least 4 games of 30 or more. He’s going to have a huge series. Boston won’t have an answer for him.

You can’t. Even the refs have tried, by not calling any fouls on defenders who hack him. Nothing works.
You can’t let Luka think, so in order to do that Bos has to take him full court, they have to be physical as Luka doesn’t like contact, and they have to double him and let Kyrie be the one making decisions…
What Lu Dort was doing is not defense. Let's make that very clear. He was fouling every time and the refs were shielding their decisions on "let them be more physical" when there was no reason to.
Its funny, all the videos dropped this week seem to implicate Boston is the underdog in this series. How quickly we forget how dominant this team is. I expect boston to send more help and let pj Washington/djj beat them. If Boston is smart they try to attack Luka on defense early and often.

So basketball breakdown account is telling us that to stop Luka you need to: 1. Hit him in the face on the first possession to set up a stage 2. Then foul him on every other possession, but be really discreet about so the refs won't notice.
Celtics is not the Wolves they are battled tested in the playoffs they are being there in every year the other players of Mavs will choke bigtime

Luka is a real gangster, an actual killer. The refs do him dirty by not giving him the superstar calls. He is slowly but surely playing though the BS and just forgetting about it. This will make him even more dominant. He is so good, he can play though contact each and every time. This actually works to his advantage. It demoralizes his opponents when hack-a-luka doesn't have any effect. Go get 'em Luka!
