Strange Coaching Leads To Curry Roasting: Game 1 Western Conference Finals

The Golden State Warriors got off to a good start in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals behind Steph Curry's 36 points. Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts made a curious defensive adjustment that allowed Curry open looks, and went away from their best lineup as well.

    @@Gvvenk Game 5 / 6 rockets were blowing defensive assignments all over the place. That, and when they doubled Curry, he mad the correct basketball play and got the roleplayers open shots which they knoccked down. For whatever reason games 3/4 they played much better defense and Curry / Thompson missed shots. With all the flopping/whining Harden/CP3 did the rest of their team were super physical/grabby. Some of the stuff Tucker was doing was borderline dirty / reminiscent of 1980's BBall. Pushing people in mid air and such. CP3 was caught sliding his foot underneath Klay and Igoudola.. wonder if that was in the back of Currys mind affecting his shot. Warriors are used to teams being physical (aka holding/grabbing/pushing) treatment after facing the Cavs and others in the past, so it's not as effective as it once was, but it still makes a difference. This almost looked like a pre-season game in terms of intensity.

    @Greg Being an NBA coach doesn't mean that you're necessarily even a very good coach at that level, or that you are immune to mistakes. And this was quite a big mistake for Stotts to make.

  • @mozby76

    @mozby76

    @Greg first of all chill the F out. Second of all, it is true Terry Stotts had a reason for his defensive strategy, and on hindsight it is easy to criticize so if that is your point, it is well taken (by me at least). However, it still holds true that you want to take away the biggest strengths of a team and make them beat you in a different way. That being said, teams like Cavs and Rockets have had some success denying the perimeter to Curry (obviously not good enough since Warriors always end up winning).

    The warriors just have too many good players, Durant easily gives them an edge, that can only be matched by Giannis, Kawhi and Harden, Curry gives then edge that can only be matched by Giannis, Harden and Kawhi and Clay is a great third option better than every other teams 2nd option, Draymond Green is better than a lot of 2nd option players, and then the role players are better than every other role player so their weakness is rebounds but they have Draymond for that so they are way too good to beat.

    Just hand the man some fan shoes and basketball to sign while you’re at it Stotts. God damn he had so much room to shoot. That’s crazy I can’t believe I didn’t pay that much attention to something so huge in 2018. It just makes you question how are some people really coaches
