Why Americans Don’t Understand Nikola Jokic
Спорт
Nikola Jokic guided Denver Nuggets to their first-ever NBA championship and was named a unanimous NBA Finals MVP while being misunderstood and disrespected in the US by former players like Gilbert Arenas & Kendrick Perkins and many other celebrities and fans.
There is more than one reason why Americans don't understand Jokic and we break down all of them in this video.

No narcissism, no trash talk, honest and humble, no scandals, married his first girlfriend ever, wears his wedding ring on his shoelace, has a child, has money but never brags, donates a ton of it to different causes behind the scenes, respects his opponents and lifts up everyone around him. From my experience, Jokic is viewed with tremendous positivity by the average American NBA viewer. It's the sports media that is completely off base with their terrible takes and continual dismissal of him. Personally, I've had very sporadic interest in the NBA since Jordan retired. Jokic has been a breath of fresh air, especially this season where, even though he was robbed of the MVP, his championship has opened many more eyes to how exceptional he is. I would also agree that his demeanor is one of his best attributes. I, for one, am sick of these narcissistic prima donnas that the sports world is full of. No , he is a great role model. What the guy meant , is that nobody wants to model their game like Jokic. Which is normal. But what everyone seems to forget is that he is a CENTRE! This position is not flashy in general, with a few exceptions, mostly because really big guys don't fly in the air (forget Wilt)and are not that explosive, but that's not what their job is. They need to muscle underneath the basket , get rebounds and to free the way for the attacking players( it's called shelter in my language)not sure how you say it in English, when you you block the way with your body, so the defender can't move in on your teammate. Jokic is so great, because he is the first center with the ability of a playmaker, I don't remember another one like him at least. Again, exept Wilt , who basically could do whatever he wanted, so one year he decided to try and finished with the most assists in the whole league. But Joker does it naturally, I don't argue he is probably the best player in the moment, but For me these comparisons are useless cos Joker and Morant and Curry and Lebron are completely different players with completely different jobs on the court. But I prefer watching Kyrie play , just because of his ball handling and very aesthetic skill.

He already made really clear that he doesn't need people to praise him, the criticism means nothing to him, he does the best he can at his job and goes home to family and his hobbies. Doesnt matter if kids want this or that, or if the NBA or brands don't like it, he is doing his own thing and is clearly happy with his decisions. There are a lot of players doing whatever people want them to do nowadays, Jokic doesn't need to change anything.

He's a private man that prioritizes family above all else. He's a professional that would rather do the right thing than get fame or personal accolades. He's an incredibly wealthy man that gives substantial amounts of money to charities and people in his home country. He is a famous man who remains humble and self-effacing. Omg, I just found this guy through a youtube recommended compilation of passes. It was magical. And honestly, I might seriously check basketball out for the first time in my life. I never liked the overhyping plays, trashtalk and disrespecting your adversaries culture. I hate when people act like clowns after someone get a 50/50 mix-up wrong in defense, it is just a coin toss and part of the game e-e Basketball is a beautiful sport in itself I just felt like I wasn't welcomed in it when I was a kid. People were just mean to each other for no reason and I didn't like that. Never liked the culture of showmen and the attitude players seemed to have. Again, it's basically what people could and can say to me "it is just not for me if I can't handle it". I'm really interested in this player and looking forward to see him play next time I have the chance.
It's just simply because he's not flashy, and the culture surrounding the NBA is pretty much all about who is the flashiest. You can literally watch an entire Nuggets game only noticing Nicola every few plays, and at the end of the game somehow he has a 30-40 point triple double. And that's not hate, it's just how he plays, almost nothing he does in a single play is jaw dropping amazing, but he puts in the work on and off the ball to get things done. I love how he plays, I've always been a fan more of the team players than the individual players so he's right up my alley.
He is a breath of fresh air in the world of show biz.
He won me over as a fan!!! His humility is apparent. Great player. He was the difference!!!
