This guy hit the scene as a replacement for the lead singer of Deep Purple when the original singer left the band. Then he formed Whitesnake and pit out a couple of albums. This was from album #3 titled Whitesnake. This song was about him having some health issues, specifically having surgery to remove small growths on his vocal cords/throat area. Doctors told him he might never sing again. That's what inspired this song. This album was a huge hit. Several songs went to the top of the charts in 1987-88. Still of the night was the next song pushed from this album. That song will melt your face lol. Vocals just searing hot. He hit it so big on this album that people began to rediscover his first 2 albums before this one and as it turns out, people discovered that pretty much everything that band ever released up to that point was pretty damn good. After all his hard work and almost losing his voice permanently, he was a massive success for the next few years. World wide.

One of my all-time favorite songs. Amazing video also. The look on David Coverdale's face in the car is perfect....he wants to get away from Tawny, but he is too infatuated with her.

David Coverdale got his start with Deep Purple back in 1974. After Ritchie Blackmore left and Tommy Bolin died in 1976, Deep Purple hung it up and Coverdale, along with Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and keyboardist Jon Lord formed Whitesnake.

Whitesnake was a blues band originally, but not really huge in the states until Geffen turned then into a hair band in 1987. Most of the MTV simps only know of Whitesnake as a hair band like Motley Crue and have no idea who Jon Lord or Ian Paice is...

@Vern Sherris Whitesnake did sell a lot of albums between 87-90, I know it's a business . However, they got lumped in with the hairbands and went into obscurity in the 90s and beyond...Maybe they would have had more longevity had they stayed more blues or classic rock instead of hairbandish.....who knows.....

'Still of the Night' was definitely the highlight of the album (one of Whitesnake's greatest songs), but the album was no where near the level of 'Slide It In'-one of the greatest 80's albums along with the other John Sykes classic Thin Lizzy's ' Thunder and Lightning'.

Lead guitar played by Vivian Campbell, who played several years for Dio.Ultimately he left Dio due to friction between himself and the singer.Have always been impressed with Campbell's guitar work with Dio on songs such as ,Rainbow in the dark,Last in Line,Invisible,etc..For twenty-one years now, those hands,so adept at fast and melodic playing have been kept on ice,so to speak, due to the much less demanding role of being lead guitarist for Def Leppard.

Here I Go Again by White Snake is the Male version of Alone by Heart. Slow soft beginning, huge crescendo, song climaxing on a very high powerful wail. Here I go again on my own…like a drifter I was born to walk alone…I made up my mind I ain’t wasting no more time. V. I hear the ticking of the clock I’m lying here the rooms pitch dark. I don’t know where you are tonight no answer on your telephone….You don’t know how long I wanted to touch your lips and hold you tight. You don’t know how long I’ve waited and I was going to tell you tonight. But the secret is still my own and my love for you is still unknown alone. Both song defect an emptiness based on love not working out.
