The phrase, "Gotta keep 'em separated" came from when Lead Singer Holland was in medical school. At the time, the band was unsure of how to tie the parts of the song together. One day, Holland was experimenting with bacteria in vials. He left the vials of bacteria in a room to let them cool down, came back after an hour or so, and noticed that the bacteria were still warm because the two samples were interacting with each other because the vials were close to each other. Dexter thought to himself, "I gotta keep 'em separated" and decided to use it to tie the new song together. >>

Berto great singing! The Offspring are a fun punk alt rock band. Also the Middle Eastern/surf guitar style fits California lol. Could be beach or desert. Cali has both. Good ears yall. Lot of punk bands come from California, where these guys are from. If yall ever do a live skate punk stream or any kind of punk stream, these guys would def be on the polls. They have a little hip hop feel in some of their songs too. I was in high school when this group hit the mainstream. My kiddoes love The Offspring too. Very catchy. Their music videos are pretty unique too. This song is about the gang violence which was terrible during the 90s in California. Song is socially conscience which is typical of punk music. Hip Hop's cousin in a way. LA vibe. I grew up in SoCal. Most of us listened to rap, punk, alt rock, grunge, ska punk, everything growing up. Esp us GenXers. . @@longbeach7623 I have a hell of a lot more than you do plus I have one other advantage. I can read. That helps a lot when you’re perusing government websites with crime statistics. Gang related homicides are way down from where they were in the 90’s. Especially where you’re from. But you’re obviously some ignorant, wet behind the ears kid that thinks you know far more than you actually do. BTW, one of the guys I served in the military has been in the LA County Sheriff’s Department since 1996 and he’ll tell you that you have no idea what the f*** you’re talking about also! Lol!

This only makes me think of hockey. I grew up in Southern California, and one of the hockey teams there (just a couple years after this song was released and wasn't really played elsewhere from my memory) played parts of this song before the games with some more violent visuals. My favorite player, who almost never got penalties, was shown in the video going very angrily into the box, so I loved watching the video every game. They didn't play most of the vocals, though, unless I'm completely crazy and just blocked that out.
