I listened to this a LOT when I lost my mother, sister and father within six months of each other and I was going through a divorce too. I felt so completely alone and their deaths were devastating to me. I had my kids, but I couldn't lay my burdens on them. They were just kids. So I would just drive and play this song as loud as possible. We have no control over death, but it still leaves you sad and angry. Music was definitely my therapy back then. This song was part of my therapeutic process. I still listen to this song. Even before I lost my family, this song was one of my favorites by Offspring.

To you ma'am I'm going to say my thoughts and prayers are with you. I lost my father and sister within 2 months. I can understand those feelings. I'm not married I can't identify there. But if you have your children, turn to them and love on them as much as possible. Be an amazing mom to them. And any really close friends you have lean on them when you need to. If they're true friends they'll be there.

Yeah. She said it had nothing to do with airplane food. That it was about the feeling you get when you have to take the airplane food even though it's not what you want but it's all you're going to get. She expressed that feeling using airplane food. But she alluded that one could also express the feeling using the words "death of a friend" (just a different level of intensity - for most folks). Like, it makes you sick to your stomach, but you gotta get on with it. That she didn't pay attention to the lyrics but still came very close to the meaning of the song was quite amazing.

I fucking hate it...it makes her sound so stupid. She was tying to call this song bland, like airplane food till he said it was about death. Usually the pretty girl brings up a reaction show, but every time Lex talks and puts her foot in her mouth, its really REALLY hard to keep watching.

@@db212006 The music is full of angst and helplessness - and so are the lyrics. Unlike Morrisey who writes happy music set to morose lyrics (Girlfriend in a Coma), they match in this song. This song takes me back. For some reason, I tied this song to my grandma dying of cancer when I was younger. I never got over it, and never will. She held my family together, and it strikes the heart so intensely. Between this song and Days Go By, it’s their two most underrated songs
This song came out a few months before my cousin died. This one hit home.
THis is the song where, if i suopped in my car, and this was still playing, you left the car running til it was finshed before turning off. It owned everything
Great song !!!! I missed this live with you guys.
I dedicated this song to my Mother who passed away at the age of 59. I play it for her every year on the anniversary of the day she died. Still brings tears to my eyes.
Hahaha this is probably one of the most straightforward songs in terms of lyrics imho. I usually miss the meanings of songs on the first listen but this one is an exception lol. "flowers on your grave" = death of loved one, "world has grown cold now that you've gone away" = death of loved one, "I reach to the sky and call out your name" = death of loved one, "if I could trade, I would" = death of loved one, "it feels like heaven's so far away" = death of loved one. Dexter is literally screaming in your face about his feelings after losing a loved one. Not sure where the airplane food interpretation came from but it made me laugh so I can't really complain.

its interesting how she embraces some music. But I can understand what shes trying to say, some songs you focus on the lyrics, others the instrument(s), and other songs ill focus on the tone or emotion. Like when you listen to a song thats in a different language, you dont know the words but we eventualy develop a perception of our own making with the song. Airplane food....not exactly a strong metaphor in comparing with death/ loss. Maybe she was trying to express acceptance and/or denial.

Airplane food. Lex, you are crazy!
The interesting thing about this song is that they came up with it because they didn't have a song about the topic and wanted to try their hand at it. The myth growing up was that he lost his wife/gf in a car accident. Regardless, the raw emotion and feeling of loss definitely came through for me.

This song is a cover... it is also definitely about death. I lost a very good friend in 2016 in a car accident not even a hour after he left my house. This is one of a couple songs that I dedicate to him. I have to completely remove myself mentally from it if I hear it somewhere public around other people or I WILL cry.. the lyrics when they state that I would trade is also accurate for me.
