U are correct - the intro "Gunter gleebin glaubin globin..." was sampled from Def Leppard's 1983 hit 'Rock of ages'... Weird Al Yankovic did a parody of this song as 'Pretty fly for a rabbi'... Another great Offspring song is "Why don't you get a job?"... also check out 'Original prankster' (feat. Redman)

The Offspring have a genuine talent for using humor to talk about very real subjects that apply in any time period. They are that sarcastic friend that makes you laugh and think at the same time. They have a mountain of hits. Self Esteem, and two of their more serious jams The Kids Aren't Alright and Gone Away are great choices. Their videos are usually a great part of the story too.

I love the offspring, along with Greenday they ushered in the pop punk/mainstream punk movement in the 90s. Around 1994 as the big grunge bands started to fade a bit due to touring troubles, breakups, suicides(Cobain😮‍💨) and as post grunge bands popped up Pop punk became huge as well. Folks trading in jeans, long hair, and flannel for cargo shorts and colorful spiked hair. Lol naw it wasn't that abrupt but still it marked the start of a new trend. Pretty fly is from the album Americana which is a classic. The offspring actually released a really good album in 2021 . You should listen to Let The Bad Times Roll. It has great lyrics. It's one of the best rock songs of 2021

@@robs715 I didn't compare them, I just mentioned them in the same statement because it is true that thise bands hit the mainstream around the same time and brought punk to a bigger stage and platform than it had been earlier in the 90s. That being said they are both legendary bands. But I won't talk about the individual quality of their records because that's not what I had originally commented to do

As a pop-punk band, the Offspring have a lot of social commentary in their songs. Sometimes it's done with humor, like this or a lot of their anti-drug songs like Mota or What in the World Happened to You. Other times it's dark sarcasm like "Come out and Play." If you want REALLY raw and scathing you can go back an listen to something like LAPD, though you may need to do a little editing on that particular track...

The had to pay Def Leppard $10,000 just for the intro audio. The "white guy" was an actor hired to play the part, Guy Cohen. Their first choice was Seth Green, but he was busy. The whole song is "making fun of whitebread kids from Montana" who think they're from Compton. The whole song is parody, and it was a huge hit when it was originally released.
