We take a walk along the beach and through the parks to discuss things we might miss if we move from the area.

I've lived in rural Scotland for a good while now and wouldn't live anywhere else. I was "stuck" in southeast England (family circumstances) over Christmas and New Year, and it is so crowded now! It's changed so much since I grew up there. I wish you luck finding your next place to live.

Well done you two, feel sure you’ll make a go of it👍 We started life in the South East then semi retired to a 5acre small holding in mid Wales, sheep and all😀 It was absolutely beautiful but quite hard work as you get older l, especially the long hard winters, compared with the SE. So after 15 years we took the tough decision and moved and ended up in rural Norfolk. It’s flat but has its own beauty, and as a bonus in that it’s close to the coast. Importantly, at the moment, property prices are certainly cheaper than the SE but as prices in Wales have shot up, possibly cheaper than Wales. There are of course issues related to living in deep rural communities. Access to facilities, poor mobile signals and often slow internet connection, one has to balance ALL the pros and cons, don’t look at it through rose tinted glasses. If you ever want any advice from one who as done and got many tee shirts to prove it, then contact me. Always happy to give the benefit of my experience. Yet another great blog, just love you two👍🤗

"Be careful what you wish for" I love visiting your beautiful south coast. Worthing, Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings have their own individuality and charm. I find the Romney Marsh area especially atmospheric (especially in winter). I think its fair to say the climate along the English Riviera is a lot less harsh than up here in my native Scotland. I now live in East Fife which has a south facing coastline and is relatively dry and bright for Scotland. Traffic issues are endemic regardless of where you choose to live on our crowded little island unless you choose to live in an area devoid of amenity and infrastructure. May I add that its a joy to see you together. its clear you`ve both found contentment,

Just over 20 years ago I moved from the Thames Valley to near Louth in Lincolnshire, on the coast. Like the best of the 1950's but with decent coffee and internet. So much less stressful and a slower, cheaper way of life. A decent climate too, not much rain and huge, empty, sandy beaches. If you are up my way you are welcome to pop in for a brew.

So pleased to see you both out and about again, particularly as I love to see my beloved home town in all its sunny glory! Ironic, you discussing about possibly leaving, when I'm desperate to return, but obviously we are at completely different points in our lives, with differing requirements. My chance to return last summer fell through, and my age means that was probably my final chance, which is a tough thing to realise. Nothing wrong with the North West where I've lived now for 13 years, but its far from the sea, which I desperately miss. I hope your dreams come to fruition and that it makes you happier, that is the main thing. Politically, I'm less concerned than I was (again, due to my age) because I won't be around to see any of the horrendous things predicted, and glad I don't have family or grandchildren etc, to worry about. I don't think the future is a place I would enjoy in any way!

It’s people who move to villages that kills a village, villagers! Are and were to folk who were born and bred in the same locality and that’s what made a local social community. But due to “richer “ people buying into their ideal they have priced and pushed local folk from their roots. I’ve been there , done that , and most certainly got the T shirt. Best of luck with your dreams Richard and Julia. Love your ramblings 👍😘

My wife is Polish and lived many miles from the sea (the Baltic) in that country - her Grandmother NEVER saw the sea in her entire life. When my wife and I met we both lived in an industrial town on the north-west coast of England, Barrow in Furness, but took the decision to move further north to the Highlands of Scotland. I have always loved the north-west coast of Scotland. We both would absolutely miss the sea if we lived inland and in particular the sun setting over the sea - sunrise over the sea is just not the same. If you decide to re-locate then go for it! You are a lovely couple by the way.... best wishes Philip and Anna.

I certainly enjoyed all you had to say! It brings me back to simpler times when people actually conversed with one another because they had time to do that. Now many people are so distracted by events not connected to them they have no time left over at the end of the day! I love the seaside and I'd love to live near there. I live in a small ( but suddenly increasing in size) town! Keep up your wonderful chats they are so good for us as well! A real tonic! ❤ 💐

Hello both 👋 Sorry, I'm just catching up. I moved house as you know, and I'm now a 10 min walk from the sea. I've lived by the sea before, in Seaford, and loved it, and although here it's more of a harbour, it's still lovely and calming, and the sea air is so refreshing! Having lived in 2 villages, one in Sussex and one in Kent, I personally would never do it again. I found them both incredibly clicky, a little self righteous, and not very inclusive. I prefer a town personally. But we're all different, and all have different needs and wants. I think with a big garden you can have the best of both worlds, the sea air, and the space to grow your own food. I think that's what I'd do, given the choice. Wishing you both all the best in your future together ❤️ x

Interesting channel. The only thing I would say to beware of a large small holding is ageing, that too much land can become a problem to manage. But you could buy something with a large garden and a sit on mower, maybe a field t walk dogs and a second hand tractor and a large chicken run. They take alot of cleaning lol. So maybe an allotment, or a portion of a large garden for food growing, fruit trees etc. And West Sussex is lovely. There must be places around not too far from the sea.

If you are still looking for the right place for you to move and where some land is a bit more affordable. Also near to sea and beautiful nature, have you looked at North Yorkshire. Close to Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington there are more affordable places and it is lovely all around there. You would have great places to film for video content on your walks. Not as much traffic except for tourists in Summer. Lots of villages not far from those coastal towns, and although said towns have markets and supermarkets, there are some quirky shops! There are some good schools in Scarborough too 😊 Things not quite as expensive. Bet you would love Scarborough, Whitby, Filey or Bridlington 😊

Well, we moved from a two bed home in London (with mortgage) to a four bed house, with huge garden, that backs onto a sheep filled hill, in Glastonbury (bought outright). Our second choice was Wales, with a bit of land, where the property prices are still very reasonable. The south east IS far more overpriced than elsewhere in the U.K.

Lynton &Lynmouth , NorthDevon, ticks a lot of my boxes. Picturesque scenery, cinema, library, Town Hall, Post Office, two very small local supermarkets, static population of about 15000.people, mixed demography, ( not dominated by OAPs) lots of art galleries, local cafes, theatre in Town Hall, low crime, no graffiti, no litter , clean public toilets and a thriving tourist season. Itof course has a beach, on the coast, access to Woolacombe beach and finally, bus services to Minehead , Ilfracombe and Barnstaple. Note , unlike many coastal resorts, is not a dumping ground but DHSS, with multiple HMO s. Strong local Christian community, well attended. Churches , community groups etc. Mild winters, . Worth visiting to assess, good broadband speeds, lots of local camping, caravan is and festivals in summer.

The irony is that if you move locally to rural West Sussex, prices are astronomical. I live locally too. But be good to hear where you eventually decide to go to. I did come from Liverpool and I noticed spring did ''spring'' earlier in Sussex than in Liverpool. Those couple of hundred miles North does make a difference. In Sussex there has been an exodus of folk from London. They sell their houses in London for a £ million and buy a house for half a £million and they have a nice lump sum into the bargain. We have a couple of aquaintences who moved to South West Wales, You can get more for your money I suppose? Good luck with it all.

As a child growing up I was born and raised in Ontario , Canada . I lived 25 miles from the nearest city. I loved the country and we were truly self sufficient and had all the work that goes with it. It was hard at times but it was the best life all the time. I lived a stones throw away from Lake Superior and we would fish there and swim in the Big One ( Lake Superior ). We didn't have all kinds of city life and I really didn't want any of the living in close quarters , and all that goes with city life. It was a kind of freedom you get maybe once in a life time. My parents home at the time was considered small, and not the greatest. Now there is a million dollar home there. The whole area is overgrown and only has a small glimpse of the beauty it once had. If you can go to the country ... run, run , run to it with open arms ..... Best Wishes to ya both.

Enjoyed seeing Worthing i have never been but love the English seaside. I am moving out of London, selling my house right now but still undecided about where to go. Isle of Man many seem to be fleeing to as they have an independent government from the UK or Cotswolds or west country. I need to hurry up and make a decision, but after my whole life here in a city it is going to be very hard but with so much AI and traffic controls literally being implemented under my nose, I will not stay. Not sure my 18 year old will want to follow but going to Uni so hoping to convert her slowly! Grow veg, have chickens and go off grid as much as humanly possible. Good luck with your move!

Hi Richard and Julia..... If your looking for a far more relaxed way of life, and want to live in a warmer climate, and have a small holding then i can recommend Calabria in Italy, mild winters and a very agricultural area. You will be near the sea and the mountains, far cheaper cost of living compared to living in the UK. My advice would be to rent for couple of years before purchasing your own property. Take care Best regards, Stefano.

Try norfolk or Suffolk, cheaper houses, great countryside and coastline. Friendly people.

Very odd watching this from Shoreham, having grown up in Worthing! I had no idea you were both from 'round these parts'! It's going to be hard uprooting yourselves to live in a new area, but I agree with one of the commentors below, it might be fun to trace your family trees back and see where you came from. I have always fancied Scotland and when I did my family tree on Ancestry, I found that I came from the Oban area, so that would give me somewhere to start! Yes, going a few miles inland from the coast would bring the prices down but you will then be dependent on taxis and public transport as you get older. What about family & grandchildren, you'll miss a lot of joy if you can't see them regularly. I know, my father lives in New Zealand and my mother in Hull so both missed their grand-children growing up. I couldn't bear that...

👋 I think yo uh can live in the countryside but be within driving distance of the sea too. Being where you are in Sussex you have the best of all worlds. Sea, countryside, and transport to major cities if you wanted it. Small bit of land somewhere with a do upper house, that’s a short drive from the coast. Many places fit that bill… Sussex, Kent, Dorset, Cornwall etc x

Welsh or Scottish Borders ... edges of the known universe but mainly English speaking. Near some lovely coastal spots and good walking countryside, personally the Scottish Borders if I could, that's where my ancestors came from 🤔

I'm not sure kids playing on a beach is a good idea these days, due to the amount of raw sewage we dump into the sea. Scotland has a self sufficiency advantage - the decline of the UK insect population is lowest in Scotland - therefore more available to eat.

I would suggest Russia to live. If you like traditional values, actual human rights, a non crumbling economy, clean streets, very affordable energy, low housing prices, a huge country you could spend a whole lifetime exploring and never see anywhere near all of it, hot summers, cold winters, wholesome food and vodka breakfasts - then Russia is the place to be.

Country life is different ,same ole Vicar of Dibley issues with the community ,but certainly more serene. Good for kids until they become teenagers or want a job.

Not sure you can get vitamin D at that time of year (April to October is the best time, around midday)! Still, sunlight is good for many other things...

@@the-english-couple I didn't know that - I thought UVB rays are blocked by the atmosphere when the sun is so low - but you would have to expose a lot of skin too for any to be made...a bit chilly atm!
