When George Foreman Challenged 5 Guys In One Night

Ойын-сауық

Welcome back fight fans, to Boxing After Dark! Tonight, we rewind the clock to 1975. In the aftermath of the legendary "Rumble in the Jungle," a broken George Foreman seeks redemption. Dethroned by the great Muhammad Ali, Big George needs to make a statement. And what better way to do that than challenge not one, but five opponents, all in a single night!

Ali took his trash talking beyond 'hyping a fight' on more than one occasion. - He harassed Sonny Liston at his own home. - Treated Frazier shamelessly - Encouraged the crowd in Kinshasa to chant 'Ali, Kill him' I have no doubt Ali's gloating contributed to Foreman's post-fight depression. Of course, he has subsequently found faith and forgiven Ali. Ali was a great athlete but he was not always a great sportsman.

I saw this on TV in 1975, I'll never forget it and I never wanted to miss it because of Jerry Judge. He went to Father Judge High School in Northeast Philadelphia. I was there in 9th and 10th grade and Judge had a big reputation, he fought all the time and mostly I can remember him sucker punching people but when he suckered people it was over. Not to mention he went out for football one year and made all Catholic as a wide receiver. He eventually became the police commissioner for Bensalem police department in Bucks County PA.

Before watching ppl need to remember this done this way by design having Ali as ring side commentator. He’s insufferable and this video doesn’t even include the worst parts haha not by a mile. George was building for the Ali rematch and this was meant to get more hype going. All things considered, Ali probably could have been a lot worse but he ended up getting invested into the fights by #4 1:02 not relevant to the video but just to clarify, Tim Tomashek wasn’t “random”. He knew Tommy’s family and was slick little club journeyman in his own right and was the official backup for the fight. He just didn’t expect to get called up lol

I'll give you a better one if you haven't heard it. Jose Torres was making a comeback after retiring at MSG. His opponent didn't show up for this "main event". Charlie Green was in the audience eating hot dogs and drinking a beer with his girlfriend as a spectator. They asked Charlie to suit up and he did and put Jose down 2x in the first round. Class prevailed as Torres came back in the second to KO Charlie but the bout got charlie another main event at MSG against Floyd patterson.

Foreman, then the world heavyweight champion, was a heavy favorite to beat Ali, the former champion. But Ali deflected or absorbed Foreman's punches as he leaned against the ropes, allowing Foreman to tire himself out in the tropical heat. He knocked Foreman out in the eighth round for the title. But Foreman, now 58, says something else tired him. In his memoirs he says before the fight, his trainer gave him something to drink that tasted like medicine. "I almost spit it out ... [I told my trainer] 'Man, I know this water has medicine in it,'" Foreman wrote. "I climbed into the ring with that medicinal taste still lingering in my mouth." "After the third round, I was as tired as if I had fought 15 rounds. What's going on here? Did someone slip a drug in my water?" he wrote.

@@NilezII your supposition has no facts - - - Ali famously called Foreman "a Belgian" in Zaire, branding him the enemy in a country ruled by Belgium from 1908 to 1960. His longtime business manager, Gene Kilroy, said he was involved in the scheme. Although Ali was married to his second wife at the time, he married Veronica Porche in a private religious ceremony at Ali's villa in Zaire a week before the fight. Eight days before the scheduled bout, Foreman suffered a cut over his right eye during a sparring session. Bob Goodman, It was Mandunga Bula, a Zaire minister who was the government official supervising the fight. George Foreman's been cut and I'm going to have to reach Don King … to get together and seeing about postponing the fight. During negotiations before the fight, Foreman said, King promised him $500,000 on top of the guaranteed $5 million. At the time of the cut, the $5 million was secured in a bank and due Foreman upon completion of the fight. But he said he had yet to see the $500,000 and realized he suddenly had leverage. "I told (King) if I didn't get my money, my half million dollars, there was not going to be a fight," said Foreman, adding that panicked government officials met with him and King then told him his money could be picked up in London. King said he didn't recall the events Foreman described, but that he would not dispute the story.

On the surface it sounds like a pretty proud moment for the boxing promoter, until you look at the books. On an episode of the ESPN's series SportsCentury Don Elbaum, a fellow boxing promoter, alleged that of the $85K the event made in ticket sales, the hospital received $1500. 4. The Ring Magazine Scandal, In the wake of the '76 U.S. Olympic team winning five gold medals, Don King pitched ABC on the idea of a televised national boxing tournament. In order to bolster the prestige of his event, King allegedly paid The Ring Magazine (an authority on boxing at the time) to falsify the track records and rankings of tournament participants. The controversial tournament became toxic when one of the tournament fighters informed the media that the tournament was rigged for those who had contractual ties to King. He'd go on to explain that he was told he'd lost his next fight before arriving to the venue. More boxers would come forward with allegations of payoffs, leading ABC to cancel the tournament.

@jryecart8017 From what I've heard, read and watched over the years, that entire event was a total sh*t show from the start. I wouldn't put it past Don King or any of his people to pull a stunt like that. Besides, who wants to watch some big mouth jerkoff leaning against the ropes for round after round? Borrrinnnng...

That sounds like something Don King would do. In fact, it sounds exactly like something that con man race baiting hustler would do.

Foreman is the toughest guy in the entire history of boxing . The man blocks punches with his face for 12 rounds against Shannon Briggs , outlands him . And giving Briggs a beating . Briggs is recordholder for most round 1 KO'S in boxing history 💀💀💀

i've watched a few boxers. i've never seen anyone hit like george foreman. he's the only man i've seen hit THRU an opponents' guard (uplifted gloves). he could make his opponent hit himself in the face with his own glove. he was just brute strength.
